keep at it! this was one of the pieces i performed at a charity concert for israel when i was 16 in recommended time, just takes daily practice and a small tower for all the sweat hehe
try learning this piece slowly, and seperate hands and make sure al the notes come out, and follow the dynamics..becuase the level was very flat in most parts..might have been the camera but whatever..try not hiitting the notes but play them as they were a pillow you want to lay on..if you know what i mean..overall wasnt bad..but not good..but keep working on it! Im not trying to trash you out..just a little constructive criticism, please dont take it the wrong way :)
lovely sound! try sustaining more in the right hand octaves, especially the melody notes w/ the pinky... hold and even try to overlap with the next note. my hands are wayyy too small and i'm doing octaves up and down just trying to stretch :-/
This is terrific! You have a lot of talent, and your practice is paying off. Keep up with your music - it will remain with you all your life. Always be grateful, for you have been given a gift that most people do not have. Use it and share it as you have here, and always be proud of yourself! Great job!!
@hoagylover +1 Everything you said. I'm not sure what the ignorant comments are all about. This is not an easy piece to play whatsoever. She is doing an amazing job with to have brought it up to this level and from memory too. Does the performance remain unsatisfactory until it is perfected ? You really think this piece can ever be perfcted by anyone ? Good job my dear keep up the hard work, wish I could play like you !!
Nice job! Why not post the entire piece? If the rest sounds this good, I would. I think you have a little ways to go with this yet but it sounds like it's coming along quite nicely! (You're also inspiring me to give this a try!)
i'd love to hear you play chopin's polonaise in ab maj, or beethoven's moonlight, 3rd movement, or chopin's revolutionary etude. awesome. and i bet you can do it too. you're really very, very good.
beautiful sweeping arpeggios and phrasing and i love the way your staccatos are played at 1:28 they are just chilling.I'm learning this piece now but im taking it very slow lol to help me improve my rhythm and just for the fun
You are talented. My teacher wants me to learn this song to control my speed (I like to play very fast)... but I talked him into letting me learn the appasionata instead! (Beethovens op.57 sonata 23. I'd would be very intrested to hear you in a few years.
@JohnnyFlannigan81 Dude... How can you play the Appassionata "instead" of this prelude? This prelude is like 5-6 pages and the Appassionata is about 20 pages or smth, and it's also more technically demanding!
you have no idea how lucky you are to have such a nice piano, mine is such a piece of garbage, the action on the keys feels like your playing on a sponge there is almost no responsiveness, it is absolutely horrid on my piano D:
That sounds EXACTLY like one of my bad dreams when starting to play a piano!! Except that it gets worst; the keys metamorphize into something like a sponge or something :(
And most of the time, the keys become unseparated to where I have to guess where different notes are! Of course this is all a dream symbol(s)- representing something utterly different than playing the piano in waking life- but it's still a drag . . .
eh............ in case you don't know.... she is doing slow motion practice and the notes are pretty clean....... are you a piano performance major or something? Do you even know what you are talking about? I think this little girl is doing what she is supposed to be doing.

and omg i just got up to the part that is on the 5th page and i must say it was very poorly done! you are supposed to start softly and build up to a great volume! but you just started playing it as loud as you could right at the beginning. D:
I liked your interpretation very much of one of my favorite Rach. preludes, You shape the long singing phrases very beautifully with a warm singing tone. Bravo!~
I would suggest the Dvd if you want to watch it. Title of the movie is "Ruth Slenczynska: A Tribute to Rachmaninoff" I rented it from Netflix. Keep up the hardwork. Rachmaninoff is a monster, a beast waiting to devour anyone who isn't strong enough. Lovely playing! I hope to play with this much sense one day soon.
Very well controlled and expressive. My already diggin into Rachmaninoff. I remember a dvd from netflix of Ruth Slenczynska playing some Rachmaninoff preludes, she did this in 1963. She had an interview before she played the preludes with someone. He was asking her about her experience with Rachmaninoff as a kid and Josef Hoffman. Such said things as, Rachmaninoff commenting on her playing whens he played his pieces, that she plays like a girl. Even though at the time she was a little girl.
You do convey your emotion well, but the trick of this song is too such in the right speed, which indeed is hard.
Additionally, you need to emphasize the second melody more, which shouldn't be that hard in this tempo (the middle part is supposed to be played at 90 - 100).
And most importantly, you should learn the whole piece, there are some other magnificent parts in it. ^^
Good to see you posting again. Marvelous job - that's not an easy piece. You already have quite the precision required for most of Rachmaninoff's compositions. Bravo!
I really like your tempo through the transition; the slower movement offers an insight into your interpretation of the piece as you complete your technical development of it (you're quite the old soul). -voicing is nice also.
It's been nice to watch this come together, and I'm looking forward to seeing the whole piece. When you post it, will you please send it in an e-mail to your You Tube friends also? This will allow me to forward it to my students (ensuring viewing!).

Don't you think you're too young to be playing Rachmaninoff? I mean no 13 year old should seriously think about taking up Rachmaninoff, especially, a piece so difficult. You must remember that Rachmaninoff was an expressionist. It is completely difficult from Bach or Beethoven, or even Chopin, not in just the style of music, but in the fact that Rachmaninoff simply cannot be played at such a young age. What lies within the music only comes after MANY years of practice. Keep that in mind.
Just because someone is young, they can still learn it! Of course the interpretation will change as they get older, but you can't set an age limit to learn it, lol
You're right, there is no age limit, I just fail to see the reason for putting in so many hard hours into this piece, when she could do it for something easier that would turn out better, and more sofisticated.
Should she be playing it? I say, why not? Music is always a work in progress. Everything improves as years go by. Having this as a starting point is a great place. The pieces you learn when you are young like this stay with you forever. Pieces I learned at her age are still memorized with no refreshing. Rachmaninoff takes many hours to learn at any time you learn it. Youth have more time than adults. Now is the time to learn as much as possible. So I say "Bravo" Keep up the great work, Cecelia!
Yes, I also think the acoustic in the room helps the sound, but it is not only there I can see soft press and hear more-or-less loud sound. My guessing is I pressed an old piano.
I really enjoy your new videos I like it. You are one of the best artists I know
