To Magicguitaraxe; I think you had a typo...Shatner best OVER-ACTOR ever!! LOL!! Don't get me wrong. I like him, but he always had me laughing when he strangled some of his lines ala Shakespearian malefactor style. He became the favorite target of impersonaters the world over for this reason. Watching Kevin Pollak and/or Joe Alaskey imitate him (you can find them on YouTube) always brings tears to my eyes because they peg him spot on!!

Shatner's "overacting" is due to his theatre training. When he was in theatre productions, you had to over act back then to grab the attention of people in the back rows, away from the action. In "The Enemy Within" (The first transporter clip) the way he enters frame with his back to the audience and swivels round is a very theatre move, and something which makes you keep watching him.

I think he's a good actor tbh, imagine how boring Trek would be without him?

I agree. Being a naturalistic actor is not the same thing as being a good actor. Some actors are magnetic and entertaining even if they don't seem to behave in a "real world" style.

The actor Paul Darrow had a similar effect on the old BBC sci-fi series "Blakes Seven" as the character Avon. He was theatrical and borderline hammy, but, boy, he MADE that series work at times. He was the best thing in it.

look, The Enemy Within has some of Shatner's best acting, and I'm not even joking. It's one of my favourite episodes of Star Trek the original series and when Kirk acts subdued as the good side of himself, he's very convincing and does a great job. Shatner's just a dramatic guy, and just because of that, it doesn't make him a bad actor. He's a charismatic guy with loads of personality, and he has his own style of acting yes, but it certainly isn't bad acting!
