this camara man should be shot. can't see any detail at all. not a single shot in focus or a zoom in held. interviewer is an idiot. missed his shot to ask a good question. Everyone knows he plays in the chord. Should asked for gear details. thumbs down.
@rexy5 Having Aspergers myself, I'd say it's possible Dallas has it, but it must be a reasonably mild case. I know I'd find a lot of what he does hard to cope with, but conversely - People with Aspergers are VERY good at focusing on the job in hand, and that may make it much easier to not be affected by the huge audience and other factors.
Gary Numan, another great technical/musical master has Aspergers btw.

Dallas, you are the most humble guy ever and god bless you for being so detailed with one of the best guitarists ever. This guy is The Edge's secret weapon!
it is the eventide h3000 preset crystal echoes. i have used it for years. i believ its only in the se units and the dsx. i have a blue eventide 3000s and it is not in it.
I agree, look for another video on youtube where a reporter is asking him about his sounds and he has to have a tech dial them in for him. He don't even know how to use his own shit! Way too many effects.
dallas says, edge knows exactly his system and so on, but just watch the file" edge demonstrating his guitar rig" and you see, that the edge knows barely nothing, wether how old his guitars are nor how to put it in the effects he wants... so it seems that dallas is the only one to look through this complexe system?!
To say that Edge is not influenced by any guitarists is a little hard to swallow. Dallas then goes on to talk about a conglomerate of guitarists like Hendrix and page, whom he used to form his own style. He's contradicting himself surely? I'm a huge fan of Edge and his use of effects does set him apart from many guitarists, but I would say that he like all others is influenced to a degree by other guitarists. I can't really think of anyone whom is completely original.
crystal echoes kind of thing, I believe! that effect sounds extra sweet on baritone, as can sound a trifle sharp on electric. hope your listening mr edge sir.
He's one numerousawards for his contribution to modern rock music.
Sure, he may not show much technical ability, but he has a good theoretical knowledge and the varied sounds he achieves is second to none. I think it's amazing how he utilizes his effects.
In technicality...you may be correct. But it is by far one of the most innovative and thoughtful guitarists of the generation. Several guitarists will settle for a sound, edge does not. His use of delay and modulation has inspired countless other bands and their music. Not one song sounds the same and not one song on any tour sounds the same. Often he will adjust his tones from show to show. He has an ability to make a note resonate in your soul.

he doesn't settle for a sound? he only has one sound. he uses delay with repeated pick stroke. that's all he does. that's really the only sound he has.
How did he get that sounds whilst dallas was playing there was another noise that accompanied the guitar! Like a keyboard or something! Do you know what that was??
It's the shimmer effect, Edge and Brian Eno crafted in the studio for the Unforgettable Fire.
It's pretty much a heavy reverb that's modulated a couple octaves to make it sound like swelling strings. I wish I could explain this better, but if you google U2 Edge Shimmer you'll find explanations better than mine.

i don't know what's the fuss about. edge is just an average guitarist. the only differnce is u2 is rich and he can afford anything he wants. that's it. he is not really known as a great guitarist.
What I would give to have a play with that rig! Edge..easily the coolest member of U2...and Dallas seems a gem of a guy too... but stringing guitars for 8-9 hours a day! C'mon man!
This is a fascinating look inside the Edge-Dallas team. Dallas is as unassming and smart as the Edge -- but listening to him play at the end of this video, you realize that you can play what the Edge plays but nobody else can play it the way the Edge does. Thanks for posting!
wow...after watching this vid not only do i realize edge is a smart guy but so is his tech Dallas...i think he hit the nail right on the head in the middle of the vid about describing how edge is influenced and how is approach to playing is....very very insiteful vid...

I would love to know if Dallas has Aspergers Syndrome - a highly funtional version of Autism. Genius. Very unique individual.

boy, there could be interesting infos in this video.
but
the filming is a piece of crap.
why zooming close to some details just to pan shortly before the cam has adjusted its focus?
only to film the rest against a lightsource?
and them mash it through the digital upload shredder.
sometimes youtube sucks so much. i need to login an yell.

What does he use to get that orchestral effect?
fusedemotion333 2 years ago
a MIDI pickup (usually right next to the bridge) that is linked to a synthesizer and which can be blended with the natural sound of the guitar.
Roland makes the most popular MIDI pickup that I know of.
arifreeman 2 years ago
it's not a synthesizer but rather a feedback loop with a delay and pitch shift in the signal path

The sound you are talking about is called "shimmer". The rest of the sound's that were used were a little bit if delay and reverb.
But shimmer is a very unique effect. The rackmounted unit that create's the shimmer sound is an Evidente Eclipse H3000 Harmonizer.

What pedals does he use to get the sound from 0:34 - 0:42?

I'm pretty sure it's an eventide harmonizer. Not a pedal. A rackmount piece. About $5k new.
