@MrJohnnybrockman73 - I didn't have a choice really which school I went to. And Davidson is in Hilliard not Columbus. ;) Hilliard is a city outside of Columbus.
Thanks for posting these. A huge devoted Oz fan and collector. This production was my first professional theatre experience with Eartha Kitt in Chicago. It's wonderful to see this magic again!
From what I hear, Mickey Rooney was not very competent in the role. He "broke the fourth wall" several times by acknowleding the audience and bowing to them upon his initial interest. He also had his lines fed to him through the ear piece. During one performance, my friend tells me, he kept referring to the Lion as "the Bear."
roseanne killed her lines. i was miss gulch in the performance i was in, and she isnt supposed to be humorous. she adding a lot of words that shouldn't have been there (we had the same scrpit.)
Actually in the RSC script/adaption, they made the character much more humorus in the script. It's not only Roseanne who did this, every actress in this role/production were told to improvise and bring something funny from themselves.
Roseanne had her hilarious jokes.
Eartha Kitt had her sarcasm and cat growl.
Lillane Montevecchi had her french accent.
And JoAnne Worley went nuts. She adlibbed so much and it was always hilarious.
I saw the 1999 National Tour with Mickey Rooney and JoAnne Worley and according to the playbill, Jessica Grove went to Hilliard Davidson High School in Columbus, Ohio and so you went to Hilliard Davidson High School with her for a year. You two could have been best friends if you didn't switch schools or something!
I worked with Jessica when she was still in Columbus, Ohio. In fact, we did an original retelling of the Wizard of Oz for a children's theater and she was Dorothy and I was the Tin Man. Her voice was gorgeous even back then and it has just gotten better.
I think I saw this performance! I wa sonly 5 years old, but I kno w when Roseanne spoke to one of her flying monkeys, I screamed "Get me out of here!" I was a horrible kid!
Jessica Grove floored me with that voice when she did a live performance of this song while visiting Portland, Oregon back in the late 1990's. I had just started work at a local TV station, KPTV when the tour came through, she was a guest on Good Day Oregon. I'll admit I developed a crush.
i just saw her as sarah brown in guys and dolls!!!!

Did Miss Gulch say, "Damn, you farm people!"? XD

It would be really funny if she did, but she actually said, "The idea, you farm people!"
