Light wasn't trying to make the world better for the people around him. He was only trying ta make it better for himself! Light was kind hearted at first, but he killed innocent people. It was as Near said he yeilded to the Death Note's power and became nothing more/less than a serial killer. Light deserved what he got in the end.

And the end doesn't justify the means in this case. If Light didn't lose, the world he would've ruled in would one of fear. A 'perfect world' can't exist with the limited technology we have. A death note wouldn't be able to cure diseases, heal the crippled, create food, ect, ect. It would just be a world filled with fear. Honestly, even though he went toally insane and Kira pretty much took over, I still like Light better. I mean, don't get me wrong, L was totally frikkin awesome, and I can't believe he died, and I have to disagree with Light being a coward. He was pretty bold to go out there and kill like that. It was wrong and costed Light his sanity, but hey, there had to be an interesting twist to the story, right?

Not at all, I did use the "Getting your hands dirty" idiom the way I meant it. He didn't go out and kill the people with his bear hands, he used a book. A book that humans should never have. He is a criminal killing criminals, so that philosophy is futile to discuss. As for L, yes, he didn't give his real name, that's what you call "undercover" or "Alias" he's a detective and very rarely does a detective give their real name to the people assumably the criminal. A 'perfect world' can't exist with the limited technology we have. A death note wouldn't be able to cure diseases, heal the crippled, create food, ect, ect. It would just be a world filled with fear. As fro my prediction, I believe that he would have eventually ended all crime. Anything else that may or may not occur is irrelevant to me. I wasn't deviating, who decides what is and is not morally ok? The government? Our founding fathers? Society? The truth is, every man's morals are different in some way or another. But it's the men in power that are able to impose their own moral standings on others. Light had his own morals, Light had power, therefore, Light's morals are law.

@dragonicmonkey7 What makes Light's morals better than any one else? Because he was smart? L was just as smart. Because he had the Death Note? Near both had a Death Note and didn't try and become "God"? And you said that if someone is poor, "get a job." What if the job is the FBI, which previously was something to help protect people?Hitler had his own morals. Hitler had power. Therefor, Hitler's morals are law. Or insert any other dictator's name. That's essentially what you are saying

Exactly. Who DOES decide what is morally okay. Light? Why not Near, or L? And although people have different morals, you will find that they deviate only slightly. As humans, we know what is right from wrong. And I am certain that we can all agree that killing is wrong. Lastly, just because someone has power, that doesn't make their morals right. At the time he was killing, there were others like L, who had power too. Why were his morals then law?

@dragonicmonkey7 That sounds an awful lot like a dictatorship...Free will is lost. People who steal something or commit some other petty crime deserve to die? They may have done such for a REASON!!! Like maybe they were poor and trying to help out their family.
Also, a lot of those people were simply "convicted" and not proven guilty. Some of those people may have been set up, not even having committed a crime yet Light killed them without even a second thought.
Everyone makes mistakes.

As for you, Light almost never makes mistakes, he reviewed most of his cases as Kira as demonstrated in his private thoughts during the hunt for the 3rd kira. And if you're poor, get a job. Don't come to me with that "I was forced into crime" bullshit. It won't hold.

Light was a sociopath. He lacked mental stability. He didn't value human life. He didn't care about the people who tried to help him (Misa, Takada) If he didn't make any mistakes then how come he lost to Near? You want someone like that as a leader?

OMFG for the last time in my life I will say that LIGHT. WAS. SAVING. Maybe so, but if he kept on doing that, the world he created would be like Leiagirl says, nothing but a dictatorship. Not exactly the 'ideal' world. He is acting almost exactly like a dictator. He got his power through FEAR. Not because he was a good leader like...Winston Churchill or George WAshington. His world would be one where the people don't have there say, free will is lost, and all the liberties we have fought for are gone. You would be killed if you were born mentally or

Physically defective, if you were lazy, diseased, or if you showed signs of not being a productive member of society. He was INSANE. Mentally unstable. He didn't care about humans, only for himself and power. Why would you want him as a leader?

Because his ideas worked. It's as pure and simple as that. Most societies with one absolute ruler fail because none of them have a leader like Light who is intelligent enough to do it right. His end results are all that I need to look at to know that this is true.

I cried every time I saw L die. It doesn't phase me anymore, though, because I've seen too many of the American ones, which after watching the whole series in Japanese, didn't appeal to me anymore. ^^;;

thats just sad light was suppose to be friends with l but he killed him it kinda makes me cry when i think of that. anywayz light was the bad guy l was the good guy and i think that id rather hav l on my side seeing l die made me cry but im just glad the near gav the revenge.
