Hey Dan! That Coltrane albums looks stellar!! I've always been wary of reissues, but the more I hear people talk about them, the more confident I am that the sound quality really is quite good. Great LP's!
@thetcha70 you are absolutely justified in being wary of reissues, but there are some good ones out there! since vinyl is making a 'come back', engineers and labels are paying attention, and they are catering to the people who are going to spend money on the product. the Coltrane atlantic/rhino reissues are very nice. If i didn't have an original of 'Coltrane's Sound' I would definitely get the remaster. Bernie Grundman is the man!
Bitches Brew had it's way with you. You just tried musical heroin, my friend. Your whole brain chemistry is permanently changed forever. It's over now, behold his work and tremble. Did you ever get some good records...shit son! On a musical scale from chores to blow jobs, you just had a menage-a-troi with supermodels.
@TheZeekgeek1 haha one of the best comments so far! I do feel as though I experienced something new and different to me, and I really look forward to go farther down that road.
Bitches Brew baby!!!! YEAH! It is about time Dan! What were you waiting for? Coltrane again, damn man! You are making me feel Coltrane envy. Glued back.... I love it. AHHH!! CD's!!!! NO! I can't breath! unhhhnmhhnuunum, hhhhkkkk!
@seqouiaflame i know, i know. i guess i wasn't ready for the brew! definitely check out those Rhino reissues if you're interested in those albums. very nicely done!
Hey Dan. Good to see you posting more. The remaster does sound really good. I do not know about most people but for an album like Bitches Brew, I do not want to hear a lot of pops and crackles. It is a record that can tweak the musical interests of even a non jazz listener. I can see the gloss in the Coltane cover.. It looks really nice. Even the old green Atlantic label looks very cool. I have not heard too much Death Cab stuff. Looks like a nice press.
@Paneeks1960 you're right, it's definitely not a traditional jazz record, which I'm sure stirred things up when it was released. I feel like you may enjoy Death Cab, Rob. worth checkin' out. thanks!
I love Bitches Brew too. I way I figure it on that album is that it doesn't reveal itself on one or two listenings. Whats going on there is more apparent the more times you hear it. I was that way with the Fillmore East album, too. I wasn't completely sure of it at first, but now those single, drawn-out notes send a chill up my spine.
Nice bargain on the Death Cab album... I'm thinking of getting a copy too though I don't think I could ever get one at $9. I feel their highest peak was Transatlanticism, after that things got more poppy. Love Bitches Brew in parts, cool record!
Nice update.. It took me a few plays to start appreciating Bitches Brew I must admit.. Which reminds me have you listened to Steve Wilsons new album - obviously some influences in the jazz sections.
I love Stanley Jordan!
