Bro. doing the same moves BEFORE a particular battle doesn't have anything to do with the CURRENT battle. theres battle tactics. physical and mental approach. you see their move, and you know a move that can rip their set (that just so happen to have been used) then use it. it ripped their set thats all that matters. and vise versa with rivers. also both crews were also being spontaneous i've noticed on some parts.
