Platinum games weren't just happy kicking 'Devel may cry's' ass at thier own game with Bayonnetta(even though some of them were part of the devil may cry series)They absolutley DESTROYED Gears of War with this masterpiece.Going back 2 GOW after playing this is like watching a walkathon straight after a 100 metres sprint!

Seriously one of the best games ever made. Awesome graphics, blisteringly fast and responsive gameplay and it's just fuckin' cool.

It's a shame it didn't sell well, sadly people are more interested in the copy and paste modern shooters where you follow American soldiers A, B and C around whereveristan and breach rooms in slow motion over and over again.

I bought this game a while ago when i saw it for only £15.

It's frantic, it's fast paced, it's stylish, it's smooth, it's a great buy.

I do think it could have benefited from some unlockables to improve replay value. Multiplayer, whether adversarial or co-operative would've been an excellent addition.

i like cgr's reviews because they never criticize the game nor give it a really biased score (most of which make people angry based on opinion) i recently picked up this game today for $20 and it was worth it. the character sam reminds me if spike spigel and even lt col burns reminds me of jet but anyway this game is really innovative and pretty cool to check out if you're bored of other shooters

I can't believe this game is so under the radar. I just got this game, put it in expecting run of the mill and HOLY SHIT! I'll be playing this one a few times. I really hope Sega releases a sequel. This is the kind of game that helps me realize why there will never be a Dreamcast 2...Sega just needs to pump out one awesome game after another.

However, games like vanquish tend to have higher sales in Japan which is good, because we can still experience it even if the typical person in the US market won't look twice at it.

@QuietAttrition The fast pace is what makes this game fun. And sure,, you can die a few times. But it should be at least a bit challenging. I am not a hardcore gamer at all and still I was able to master the controls quickly. All in all: GREAT GAME!

The only thing I don't like about this game is since they made up a fictional environment with futuristic weapons and stuff couldn't they have just placed the whole in a fictional realm/planet/time period?
