I definitely choose Carrie. Because when she sing her songs, it's not strained and it still retained its clarity. Regine on the other hand, when she sings on SOP, I see that she is mostly over singing. My music teacher, whose a professor on another school (vocal pedagogy) said to me that, Carrie is one of the best thing that ever happened on the music industry.

Regine wins in every department: perfect intonation, vocal control, power, expression, lyric interpretation and inflections and range. It's like she was just playing with this song. Not even a serious challenge for Regine.
I must agree with other comments over there. I don't know why the insistence in comparing her with others. It does't matter if she hits higher notes than any other singer, she is not anointed and doesn't make you feel the songs. I think her flaws are expression and lyric interpretation. Whitney didn't become a legend only for her voice but for the way she makes you believe every song she sings. She sings from the heart. I don't feel it with Regine.

As for Regine not making you feel her songs, well that's a highly subjective opinion. There is room for objectivity in singing. Other listeners have a better appreciation of the technical aspects of singing. Even if a singer has a beautiful tone or emotive, but fails in pulling out a clean performance, the singing is still compromised. IN this perf, Carrie is definitely fails in so many technical aspects. Her voice is shaky and the performance is flatter than a pancake. She sounds very throaty, too.
Carrie was sick as a dog in this performance. But she still sounds better than Regine. Regine's voice has no heft, just screamy high notes. Her middle voice is so average and unremarkable. Carrie can go WAY higher than this, btw.
Regine has sung SICK numerous times and she never lowered her keys or sang as bad as Carrie as doing here. And even if Carrie can go higher than in this performance, i doubt if she can match Regine's range. As for screamy high notes by Regine...I'd love to hear Carrie try Regine's high notes and I bet she'll have a hard time controlling her voice. Regine maintains the quality and power of her notes as she goes from the lowest to the highest end of her range.

Middle voice of Regine is average? What you're talking about is difference in tone. While Regine has a lighter and more feminine voice quality, her control, ability to manipulate and support in her middle voice is far superior than Carrie's whose breath control in all her registers is mediocre compared to Regine's.
Carrie even in her best condition has a very throaty and tight voice resulting in poor projection of high notes. Compared to average singers, Carrie is better. But compare Carrie to Regine, and Carrie sounds average. And i seriously doubt if Carrie can do Regine's arrangement of high notes. She wouldn't have the technique that Regine has.
As for Regine fans claiming she is superior, at least they can back up their claims with objective points. You can do the same for Carrie as her fan, but be sure you can back them up well.

I wouldn't call Carrie Underwood a real artist, either.. She's just an American Idol winner, another reality show..Regine is not a "wannabee". She just loves to sing and it's been her life since she was a young girl. A singer doesn't have to aspire to be a famous American star. You just sing for the love of it, not for fame. I must agree with other comments over there. I don't know why the insistence in comparing her with others. It does't matter if she hits higher notes than any other singer, she is not anointed and doesn't make you feel the songs. I think her flaws are expression and lyric interpretation. Whitney didn't become a legend only for her voice but for the way she makes you believe every song she sings. She sings from the heart. I don't feel it with Regine.
I'm just saying. This is just my opinion.

it's not only Regine who is compared with other singers. "Versus" videos amongst singers are rampant here in YouTube. If you don't like them, just don't watch them. As for Regine not making you feel her songs, well that's a highly subjective opinion. To me, she is a superior singer because she is not only accomplished technically, but also in expression, regardless of the difficulty of the song. Carrie just doesn't impress me in any department: technical or artistic.

There is room for objectivity in singing. Other listeners have a better appreciation of the technical aspects of singing. Even if a singer has a beautiful tone or emotive, but fails in pulling out a clean performance, the singing is still compromised. IN this perf, Carrie is definitely fails in so many technical aspects. Her voice is shaky and the performance is flatter than a pancake. She sounds very throaty, too.

Carrie was sick as a dog in this performance. But she still sounds better than Regine. Regine's voice has no heft, just screamy high notes. Her middle voice is so average and unremarkable. Carrie can go WAY higher than this, btw.

Regine has sung SICK numerous times and she never lowered her keys or sang as bad as Carrie as doing here. And even if Carrie can go higher than in this performance, i doubt if she can match Regine's range. As for screamy high notes by Regine...I'd love to hear Carrie try Regine's high notes and I bet she'll have a hard time controlling her voice. Regine maintains the quality and power of her notes as she goes from the lowest to the highest end of her range.

Middle voice of Regine is average? What you're talking about is difference in tone. While Regine has a lighter and more feminine voice quality, her control, ability to manipulate and support in her middle voice is far superior than Carrie's whose breath control in all her registers is mediocre compared to Regine's.

Carrie even in her best condition has a very throaty and tight voice resulting in poor projection of high notes. Compared to average singers, Carrie is better. But compare Carrie to Regine, and Carrie sounds average. And i seriously doubt if Carrie can do Regine's arrangement of high notes. She wouldn't have the technique that Regine has.

Plus Regine doesn't really have any emotions when she sings... no soul into it. but admire her courage trying it yet she can't still get it. tho' she has high range when she screams.. and one more thing, when she sings a ballad song it seems that she's singing it in a nasal way with nostrils close.

In vocal control alone, Carrie Underwood is lagging sorely behind Regine. Regine never struggles whether in her low, mid or upper registers, and her great vocal control allows her to apply nice vocal nuances to her singing that make her lyric interpretation far more interesting than Carrie's. Carrie was singing here like she would in a karaoke bar. Quite stiff and boring. Carrie's high notes are also strained and are no match to Regine's whose voice clearly soars with ease.
