  • I'd out shoot you with my full size Springfield 1911 Loaded. At that distance its just silly.

  • @leicamaster My point exactly. It's not the gun it's the shooter. If you're ever in Colorado let me know and I'll take you up on that. maybe we can film it this time and post it.

  • @Gspsx I'd love to, but I don't have any reason to go to Colorado thus far. I've heard it's beautiful there. I know for a fact the longer barrel is more accurate the further out you go. So at close distances it maybe too small of a change to detect. I guarantee you if you had shot 50 yards you would clearly see that longer barreled weapon is more accurate.

  • well base on what hichkok45 said he can't tell the difference in barrel length anymore for accuracy...also shooting someone pass 25 yards with a handgun is really hard to do anyways...i prefer shorter barrel guns because to me it just looks better and better for concealed carry...

  • Actually, one gun would be more accurate than the other, but you would need to lock both guns down in a test bed, so the shooter is ruled out of the equation. Until then you are either a better shooter OR your gun is more accurate OR unknown variables like ammo.

You could have each shot the same gun with the same ammo each time (each shoot yours, then each shoot his). That would be a better way to figure it out as well.

I also have a Champion 4" loaded, and it's a tack driver at 15 yards.

  • All things being the same the longer barrel gun should be more accurate. It should be easier for you to shoot a 5" 1911 more accurately than the same spec gun in a 4" barrel. You have to compare your accuracy to yourself not to someone else.

  • @saberman12341 Longer barrel (sight radius) would be more accurate at greater distances. At up to 30 feet it does not matter how long your barrel is. I'm just as accurate with a 3" XDSC than i am with a 5" 1911.

  • interesting, yet true point of view...a person can have the "best" gun out there, but if they don't know how to acquire and shoot the target, the gun is pretty much useless

  • Have the exact same gun. Had to buff the mating parts the machining was so bad my brass was flying all over. It was much better after the buffing, but the tritium sights were not properly matched to the weapon. They may be fine usually, but I'll go a different direction when I can find a buyer.

  • I don't think you proved anything. Everyone knows some are people shoot better than others. That has nothing to do with the gun.

A longer gun has a longer sight radius. That makes alignment slightly more accurate. You cannot argue that.

  • I wonder at what point the barrel length becoms a hinderance. I know with some rifles barrel occilation negatively affects accuracy with longer barrel guns. Once the round is stablized during its initlal travel down the barrel, more barrel length could only disrupt its straight travel.

  • Is this a real question?

  • Agree and disagree with video...

Normally... a longer barrel gun has better odds for higher accuracy but shooting 7 yards away doesn't really matter or even apply yet. If you guys were doing a much further distance... (Normally) You would be better off with a longer barrel gun. Thats just science ..

    BUT

the 1911 champ is a excellent shooting gun and very accurate.

Basically... the gun is just as important is the shooter. PERIOD

  • Lol I think the champ is here!

  • Accuracy depends on the shooter as much as the gun.

  • Tell me if you get to shoot both guns, I honestly don't know which is more accuate but I woul like to know.

  • @MrWazzup777 I've shot them both and up to about 30 yards (90 feet) they're exactly the same. Over 30 yards i shoot the Kimber better mainly because of a longer sight radius. the champion is made for self defense and most self defense situations happen within 7 yards and most people don't even need to aim to hit some thing at those distances. Why are you getting a gun? look at what you're going to use it for, accuracy is mainly the shooter not the gun.

  • @Gspsx Thanks for the information. I am looking for a gun that suits me best and I wanted to know if you knew where I could customize my own gun? I wanted to have my own design patterns on the slide and my family crest on the handle grip, do you know of a website that will allow me to do this?

  • Well in complete honesty, all you proved is that you have better aim and you are right the shooter does determine the accuracy but not all the accuracy. You see the total accuracy of a gun is that of the shooter and the gun combined, you prove that he has really bad aim or that you are a great shooter. To test the both guns, the same shooter must shoot both of the guns then compare results.

  • Hey there happy shooting, great shot! I own a SA 1911 parkerized loaded full size. Dead accurate, at 7-8 yards I punch a jujube size hole with 2 8 shot mags, so yes it depends on the shooter also. I've only shot it 4 times now lol

  • @thahchad1987 That's a good gun, I've been looking into getting a parkerized one.

  • This gun is very accurate,I own a short Sig mauser M2 in .40 which shoots the same way! Springfields are great 1911's i don't own the champion but two others full size and they can pretty much shoot through same hole at 10 yards or so very high quality guns!

  • all i know is that my champion is the most accurate gun i own...

  • 7 yards probably isn't the best testing medium. All other things being equal the pistol with the longer barrel is going to have a longer sight radius and the bullet will have a 'flatter' trajectory which both translate into better accuracy. However, the largest variable by far will be the skill of the shooter.

  • At seven yards 1" is not going to make much difference, but you guys didn't test proper. The shoot-off should have been to determine the better shooter - and then have that person shoot BOTH guns. Either way i would take a springer over a kumber any day.

  • I bought the Champion stainless when it first came out in the 90s. I paid about 550 dollars. They had to special order it since no one knew what it was. It had the commander type hammer and grip safety and arched mainspring housing. I have Houge grips and flat housing now. it also has the high fixed 3 dot sights that it came with. Still have it and carry it for my job. Many offers to buy it. I do miss my SW 686 that i sold.

  • ...The longer barrel is always more accurate. Machine rests have documented it. Some people do have steadier though. lol Watch hickock45 shoot a Glock 27.

  • I can bang the steel plate at 50 yards consistently with my Model 60 S&W 2 inch 38, so I am a firm believer that the gun is as good as the shooter. Nice work. Many years ago at Camp Pendleton during a rifle match some Marines were badmouthing the 1911as being inaccurate. I was on an Army pistol team and got my National Match out and punched holes in their 55 gal barrel at the range limit at 300 yards. It took a few rounds to get the sighting. They said no more. I impressed myself.

  • @azcapi People who say 1911s aren't accurate they have never held one let alone fired one. love those pistols i own 2 of them now. its a piece of Americana. It feels good to shut those non believers up isn't it.

  • @Gspsx You asserted that its not the gun but the shooter, and then you ask at the end of the video if people think the shorter or longer barrel is more accurate.

  • your group looks like a dude waving bye lol. nice stainless Springfield you have.

  • Good video and one sweet SA

  • Great looking 1911.

  • i think the longer barrel on a gun would be more accurate only if the target were at longer distances. but at that distance, it wouldn't. i agree that being accurate is also based on the shooter. nice 1911! i'd put that target on my refridgerator! LOL

  • @MrJohnboy1911 yeah but realistically what would be the optimum shooting distance for a handgun. I read some where the .45 acp fmj drops two feet every second after 80 yards. That a side i really want a full size 1911 i think they look better. and the target I'm thinking of framing it and the dollar and donating it to the shooting range where he works.

  • @Gspsx you should watch bob munden's videos. i've seen this man shoot 200 yards with a 45 acp accurately! BUT he is also a professional shooter. elmer kieth use to shoot the 44 mag pistol 400 yards. thats the furthest i have heard. in a defense situation, your target wont be no more than ten yards more than likely. at least thats how i was trained in law enforcement. i have 2 full size 1911's. i am in the market to get a champion 1911 like this one for my ccw. it would be easier to carry.

  • @MrJohnboy1911 you know i bought this to carry as well but it's heavy and i live in a state that's cold 8 months out of the year and this thing can get kind of cold and uncomfortable. For me it was not a all day carry gun so think about that. but it is one hell of a gun. if you don't mind the weight i would highly recommend it but get the fully loaded one.

  • nice gun dude, I got the same gun in Black Armory Kote.

The longer barrel is always more accurate. The greater the distance between the sights will also help the shooter be more accurate. That 4" champ is more accurate than you my friend. Bench rest that gun and it will out shoot you, me and dupree.

  • @Mr1911Freak I totally agree. 1911s are awesome even the commander size.
