A lot of racing fan's seem to only remember Secretariat's romp in the 73' Belmont Stakes. But this horse set new stakes records in the 73' Kentucky Derby and Preakness as well. Secretariat was the first horse to ever finish the 1-1/4 of the Kentucky Derby in under 2 minutes. He ran the final 1/4 mile of this race in 23 seconds. Secretariat ran each of the five 1/4 miles of the Kentucky faster than the one he had just previously run. That truly is incredible, and unheard of!!

I won't complain about the coverage provided by the networks of the major races anymore (although it leaves a lot to be desired) after seeing this. CBS couldn't even be bothered to post the pre-race odds.
