Slayer, Exodus and Metallica were among the first, but other underground bands were also doing their own thing, for instance Hellhammer (Celtic) in the early 80ties. Good times

@TheDethhead I think thats to do with drummers. I'm not a Lars hater but he isn't as good as 3 drummers from the bg 4, those being Dave Lombardo from Slayer and Gar Samuelson and Nick Menza from megadeth. I'm not too sure about anthrax's drummers i must be honest.
James , Kirk, Cliff Jason or Rob can all play very fast and Lars seems to be slowing them down but his style works for metallica and it wouldnt be the same without him.

In EVERY video made about thrash there is a lot of talk about Sabbaths and Maidens and , yes, I know, they are very good, but they aren´t the only inlfuence... that HC/crust punk attitude is the reason of hating the glam metal, or isn´t? ...and, IMO, VH1 (or MTv or wutdafuq is that) making document about thrash metal - rofl...
