If you did not buy USA data load the stuff you bought and get used to to using it. To really use it well you have to spend hours fooling with it. I hope you got a chip. Map loading. Loading data, the more ypu load the longer it takes. You use Mapsource as the loading tool unless the data is on a chip already. Each time you load maps it erases the current set and reloads your selections. No way to add a single map. If you have problems tell me specifically and I'll make a vid and post
Lot's of questions, The hiway mode is kind of useless because all you see is the route you are currently navigating and no side streets or roads, but it's a 3D perspective..Make sense?. I beleive the more detailed data you load the more find options become available, I never noticed that because I've always had detailed data maps. Did you buy USA data? If not the thing is pretty useless, unless you only want to make a track of where you've been. Detailed data is key to a useful tool. Let me know
I just got one, when i go to my Find menu I have like 6 options. How did u get all those. I want to use the highway option and actually be able to use it as a GPS. I got mine for going overseas. So i purchased the IRaq and Afghanistan maps and i downloaded them... have not put them on yet since I'm not in country yet. I want to use the highway feature like a regular GPS while i'm stateside so how do I go about doing this?
@sherer88 I believe the stock unit come with a base map only which are major hiways only. You have to by maps to get any detail. They used to sell map data that you could license to any two Garmin units. Fortunatly I had a nother unit that had an extra license and used it for this unit. The new lifetime maps was not availble at the time I purchased but what a deal. It takes a while to get the hang of map loading but basically you use Mapsourse program to view data sets (Maps) that you purcahse.
@charlesrg pretty good, I get it confused with my camera which is horrible especially when your sunglasses darken too.
I have used it extensively in all weather.
The only time I remember it being a problem is with full sun on bright white snow where your half blind already, then throw in some fog on your darkened auto tinting glasses. I remember the day becuase I thought, "What would I do if I were really lost at this point and can't read the darn thing.
I only have the base maps. What is the best map set to buy for trails; hiking, finding climbing areas and such?
