  • Seriously. Christ, you are good. Bout the best performance ive ever heard. How much of it is pure impro? And when you improvise, do you think you use a lot of "standard licks", if you know what i mean? I find it quite hard to imrovise over theese changes as you do. Any tips?

  • @1981wooten Many thanks!!! The solo is mainly improv. However I use a lot of Jazz lines which I try to have as my vocab. Think of improvisation as a form of speaking, the song is your subject while the lines are your vocabulary. A good starting place is with Charlie Parker, learn a short phrase, one or two chords, practice it in different keys and try to play it over similar chords. There are many opinions improv how much is made up on the spot but I think this way works pretty well.

  • @resonantdoghouse

Thank you very much, both for your music and for you kindness :)

  • beautiful sound!

  • Awesome phrasing!

  • Great playing brosef!

  • One of the nicest vids I've seen on youtube! Terrific job, very musical and great chops!

  • Very nice! Really saying something.

  • Man you're fucking monster of the low end. Love it. Wish you live round my way for some lessons.

  • Very musical and technically demanding phrasing coupled with a nice tone. The composition is also wonderful in itself. Keep up the good work, you deserve to be known!

  • you play too expensive

    toca muito

  • I never played bass. Technically I think is hard but not quite hard. However loudly the bass is a semi-acoustic I bet it enables a more accessible and easy study?

    True or false?

  • your stuff is always good.....

because of you I had to pick up a gwb......

good on ya man, sounds great :)

  • This is Gorgeous, I am soooo jealous! fantastic!

  • Siiicckkkk

  • awesome!

  • Subscribed :)

  • do you prefer 4 5 or 6 string basses, and why?

  • A favor please...

Let us know what gear you are using in the info section.

We bass players like to know that kind of stuff... it's like the concert program or liner notes on albums. Gotta have it!

  • This kind of music makes me smile :)

  • dude how many bases do you have? lol man one day i will have a collection as well. i like your style.

  • lol, too many but I still have a bunch on the wish list.

Next big purchase will hopefully be a nice upright bass! If only they weren't the price of a car!

  • cool

  • bravo!!!

  • youre amazing!!!! btw what bass are you using?

  • Wow thanks!!!

The bass is a G&L jb-2 with bassline pickups installed.

Pretty solid instrument, I think it's better than the new fenders, would definitely recommend this bass.

  • Beautiful! 2:20 makes me think you've studied some bebop :)

  • Yeah that's what a few years at McGill will do to ya :)

bebop bebop bebop, and more bebop.

If you ever want to hear an amazing composer/arranger check out Joe Sullivan

    He's a proff at McGill.

    Thanks again for watching

  • I was just wondering..So any one help me please..

Where can i find bass tab for this song if any one know please tell me i would be gratefull..I like the style of the bass player on this short video...

  • man, i would sell both my parents to have just one fifth of your phrasing abilities. the thing that astonishes me the most is that it sounds like your phrases and licks are NEVER pattern based, which is a forte of many players (did someone say alain caron?). so, i definitely have to commend your abilities. and, i must confess, i've kept being happy and proud since your comment on one of my vids :D

  • Loved it! You are ridiculously good... nice job man!

  • hey we have got a new stuart hamm!! eheh very nice work man

  • dude, first of all, you're fuckin ill, which i'm sure you already know.

second of all, and this doesnt really mean much to you, but you look like this weed dealer i knew back in college

  • Lol, weed dealer :)

I got the youtube chronic, I can hook it up.

    Curtis Mayfield Lyrics to Pusherman:

"i'm your doctor, when in need

want some coke, have some weed

you know me, i'm your friend

your main boy, thick and thin

    i'm your pusherman"

  • im your momma im your daddy im that nigga in the alley...

  • Im speachless. I mean, Why arent you world famous?

  • I thought Youtube was Famous :)

  • very nice... ...again... ...did you switch pickups on your G&L???

  • The new pickups are Seymour Duncan Hot Jazz pickups. Double Coil noisless setup. The original pickups in the G&L bass were very noisy and made strange sounds :)

  • you are absolutely amazing

    thank you for your videos

  • Hey man, I love that tone.

Pure classic chorus I hear no?

  • Yeah I'm using Guitar Rig, I think the setting is Jazz Amp. It's a model of the somewhat overused Roland Jazz Chorus, does the job though.

  • thats just plain sick.

  • Good playing,good writing.

  • awesome job man, really great phrasing for sure no doubt. I got some new vids up man, hit em up.

  • yeah man, you even got all the birds and the bees dancing to that one!

    smooth.

  • Your work always astounds me, your bass work is album worthy! I'll definitely drop by that site man

Also, id love to know what kind of scales/modes, etc, you work with, coz your songs have a very unique Jaco-like sound

    5/5

    ROCK ON!

  • Wow thanks!

I'll try to write something for my site about playing in this style.

A quick tip I tend to use voice leading over changes like these. Voice leading is the concept of using leading tones.

Leading tones are scale degrees that resolve strongly e.g. 3 to 7 resolutions or 7 to 3, the numbers are for each chord. G7 to Cmajor would have F to E, or 7 to 3. I don't know if any of this makes sense :) I'll try to write an article soon.

  • No worries man, i love your work.

I look forward to seein that article, i signed up to your site incase you hadnt noticed. Im not very clear on theory stuff but I'll try and wrap my head around all that lol fingers-crossed it becomes clear to me one day lol

  • excellent solo!

  • Awesome playing! Like ever!

  • Welcome back ^_^

    Great bass groove.

  • Summer is sadly more of a depressing time for me. :( I prefer spring, that's a happy time. :)

  • yep

  • Most excellent playing, very listenable. :D
