She's right, but only because she's not moving in to look closer at people. Take New Orleans: Yeah, ppl. helped each other... but, white ppl. helped white people, black ppl helped black ppl and black ppl chased out white volunteers who went to N.O. to help out black people. Naomi, like all her ilk, Ralph Nader, etc. treat people as if they're better than they are, and I'm sorry, but get real, they're just not. I know it's not heart warming to get down to the nitty gritty, but it's most honest.

If you put people in desperate situations, and fear takes over, then they can end doing things that they shouldn't. Yes, people do stupid crap, but I think that fear, and also regional considerations - blacks living with blacks, for example - are factors that prevented interracial assistance. That, and that fact that the gtovernment let them rot for five days. No other industrialized country would have allowed that, one of the reasons being that it creates desperation and crime.
