@Ton2as I use to work for Perez Prado as an audio engineer. In his format he preferred drummers like the famous Mexican drummer el genio Acosta, although he had preference for Cuban percussionist like Candido and Mongo Santamaria who recorded many mambos with him.

He was the first one who put it in the front and center of the Orchestra, as oposed to the back, like Tito Puente accostumed. Then he took the same posture as Rodríguez, wich strated off a musical feud between them.

No tenia ni siquiera 10 años cuando vi a Perez Prado caminando con su gabardina negra de lana por la Feria de Leon, Gto. Pero me dio mucha pena siquiera saludarlo. Saludos a todos,pero no puedo dejar de informar , que este genio de este género, fue contratado exclusivamente, para dirigir la super orquesta San José de La Voz Dominicana,desde 29 7 1954 hasta 4 de Agosto del mismo año. En los ensayos,hecho una mala palabra, al terminar que rico el mambo porque desconocía , que la San José era para la época una de las mejores orquesta de Latínoameríca,conservamos algunos mambos grabados en vivo, de esa ocasión.

@Ton2as I use to work for Perez Prado as an audio engineer. In his format he preferred drummers like the famous Mexican drummer el genio Acosta, although he had preference for Cuban percussionist like Candido and Mongo Santamaria who recorded many mambos with him.

@latinosomos I really think that the one who introduced timbales in an orchestra was Tito Rodríguez. He was the first one who put it in the front and center of the Orchestra, as oposed to the back, like Tito Puente accostumed. Then he took the same posture as Rodríguez, wich strated off a musical feud between them.

@Ton2as In a Cuban mambo orchestra they dont use timbales, what they use sometimes was something similar which are called pailas. The timbales was introduced by Tito Puente in his orchestra and he became known as EL REY DEL TIMBAL. We owe to him, the profusion of timbales in modern music.

No tenia ni siquiera 10 años cuando vi a Perez Prado caminando con su gabardina negra de lana por la Feria de Leon, Gto. Pero me dio mucha pena siquiera saludarlo. Pero yo sabía que era él, pues su musica la baialbamos todo el tiempo. Ahora en mis 40's solo quiero seguir su ejemplo: componer y revivir el mambo. Me llama la atención la manera que él interactua y dirige la orquesta, con una mano dirigiendo los saxofones y con la otra dirigiendo las trompetas.

Sería maravilloso revivir toda esa música de antaño, en méxico se dió muy muy buena música(aunque perez prado era cubano) pero sin ir lejos la sonora santanera es un gran grupo, no la porquería de "musica" de hoy, reguetón, duranguense etc etc, música sin chiste!!! Ojalá dios nos mande otro Pérez Prado, otro Lara, otro Lennon, Otro Mozart, que dios se apiade de los que gustamos de la buena música y nos tenemos que refugiar en la musica de antaño. Porque ya no hay buena música???

Y si ustedes han visto uno de los videos en que los mexicanos estan bailando rapido al "Mambo #8" o a "Que rico el mambo", ¿es esto la forma original del baile?
Y si es así, ¿cuando es que empezaron a bailarlo mas despacio?

The cha cha was born from the mambo!, they used to call it the triple mambo. If you listen to alot of old school mambos u will find that some of them have what we now know as the "cha cha" beat
