  • 5:07 BLESS YOU!

  • Is that a Galion Grader?

  • Champion.

It is a Champion Motor Grader.

  • I take it they dont oil or tar dirt roads anymore?

  • they put calcium down on them in the summer to keep the dust down. they tar the shoulders where they keep eroding away, but I don't expect we'll ever have pavement out here.

  • Grading is done in stages. - First, enough loose material has to be scraped up, then smoothed out and then whatever edging or ditching has to be done comes last. Speaking from experience, unless you're dealing with fresh gravel, one pass is never enough. Usually it takes at least three passes. Lumps and dips are easily taken out, but it takes time and patience.

  • They usually do like you say, up and down and then the center. I think they ditch the side first though because it sends up so much sand.

I asked if he would drive up and down a lot to pack the sand so it wouldn't all wash away with the first rain. With only three families on this road, we don't do a lot of packing between rain storms!
