I'm watching the spoony riff right now and I can't believe this movie exists! I'd understand if this was just made for online video sites but a theater release!? Come on! I've seen zero budget movies better than this. The movie took itself seriously but the props and editing wasn't up to the job. A director with balls to ask for permission to shoot on location could have elevated this movie to mediocre status at least.

This movie is an overbudget scam (like shown on "The Producers"). It cost 6 million, the same amount it cost to make "The Wrestler". Well, actually, the writer-director-producer hetre got the money to himself, and made something quickly with a few bucks, and fulfilled the contractual obligation with the sponsors to release it. He also added some crappy CGI shots to possibly attempt to justify the costs. It is easy to see through this scheme, but there is little to be done, he'll get away with it

I saw the trailer and didn't think much of it -- the deadpan, unaffected acting and poor lighting seem deliberately amateurish, and the engaging compositions and the Michel Gondry-esque props suggest it's meant to be an ironic micro-budget indie. Truly inept films are easy to spot because they don't hold your attention for long.
Honestly, I thought the ironic quality was pretty obvious, so I'm surprised people are obsessing over it. I'll probably own it some day.
HAHa..I'm a projectionist, watched a few minutes of this movie the other day (we were one of 4 theaters to book it). The thing is so poorly shot and edited, with the worst set designs ever. It has to be a joke, no way around it. They must be aiming for awful, weird movie cult status.

I saw this movie last weekend in Rochester, NY. We were the only ones in the theater too.
I think my favorite part was when the imaginary Sim girl throws boxes against the wall.

You will change your mind after seeing the film. The length (and quality) of the animation sequences alone suggest that this movie is NOT bluffing.
But, intentional or not, ALS is completely enthralling and I was truly entertained. I laughed myself to tears from beginning to end.
