The Onion AV Club has a feature this week: "First Favorite Songs." I've been wracking my brain trying to recall which song I first took a strong shine to. This song is one possible candidate, although "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron" might be just as strong a contender.
My parents had this album. Some of my earliest memories were of listening to this song and others with my little sister and without fail we would break the needle on the record player, put the LP back in its sleeve and hope they wouldn't find out it was us.
The Straight Life was written by Sonny Curtis, who also wrote "I Fought the Law" (covered by many artists but most notably the Bobby Fuller Four and The Clash) and "Walk Right Back" - Everly Brothers had a big hit with it. Sonny Curtis also wrote and sang "Love is All Around" , the opening theme to The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
A truly great and memorable - and largely unknown-- gem. Glen Cmpbell is a treasure. A remrkably expressive voice, outstanding guitarist and someone who really has an ear for picking great songs. Witchita Lineman is one of the all time beauties. This album is full of exceptional music. He sings a superior version of Reason to Believe -- much better than Rod Stewart's, trust me. Find this album in the local Goodwill Store or Salv. Army shop. It'll be worth the $1 you will pay!
this song severly disguises the tremendously competent guitar work that pops out now and again and you catch glimpses of a musician who just sees it a whole different way. The guitar work alone is absolutely outstanding!
I think he may have... He only got to write one or two songs back on those albums. I've listened to the old albums so much they are all mixed in my head, so I can't remember who wrote what, except for a few songs.
I've still got my vinyl copy from 1968!

This LP is still fairly easy to find, there's a whole load of his LP's with some amazing music that's far lesser known.

This is the one I remember, not Bobby Goldsboro. Did Glen write this song?

Yeah, it's a great album, but it's a second hand one, and the quality isn't the greatest lol, I hope that I can find one that isn't as scrachy

Yeah I found mine at goodwill. The cover looks terrible, but the album itself looked like it had never been played.
