I remember seeing this movie at the theatre. I was the ONLY one in the theatre. I knew I was in trouble when the music started playing. I had to sleep at night with the lights on for a very long time. You can't really make a good remake of a classic like this. You can't re-create the atmosphere of the originals. I had never seen a movie like this before. My dad saw the original King Kong in 1933. Scared the wits out of him. The remake couldn't do that today. It's a different era.
Johns work from the 70s into the 80s was really spot on looking back. He created the way that a lot of horror films today now take.
Always liked his sense of paranoia, claustrophobia, and suspense in his films. But its his use of light and shadows on set, that really emphasize this and lay the footings for the uneasy, strange feel of his films.
I know lots would disagree with me, but the fog is my favorite Carpenter movie. On the second watch it wasn't too scary, but the first time it really spooked me and proved to me movies could be scary.
I havent seen the film yet but love this main theme to THE FOG sounds like a really cool horror film BTW iam a big horror film fan check out my video's dudes. cant wait for this years halloween
@ DeNubbel..der streifen is übrigens von 1979;) is zwar nur'n jahr unterschied aber bei solchen guten filmen sollte mans schon genau wissen..nix für ungut;)
John Carpenter was a master of cinematic 'Mise en Scene'; the dramatic use of light sound, scenery stage grouping and camera angle. He used natural space beautifully too. No matter what scene you were watching on screen (and he could take you 100 miles either side of the action, in the space of two different shots), you inevitably felt as if you were 5 seconds (or less) from the monster/villain. That was a particular talent of his and not administered to many.
I don't blame you. The remake was shit. The only thing memorable about it was Selma Blair strugglin' to get free of her submerged car. What I'd give to kiss her lips after she surfaced barely in time to save herself from drowning.
sorry no! offens! but! this movie&sound is fucken borrrrring!!!! BAH!!! if you ask me? i'rather choose the old vesion! you know way? cuz the older actors use 2act&play it zilion'times better!! like more authentic!!!)
Yes, lol, for sure. I've been inside an old 1800s lighthouse and it is creepy. :S

This sounds a bit like the themes of "Halloween" (also written by John) and "The Exorcist".

I liked it; but, frankly speaking, unlike perfect Halloween theme it's pretty raw.

John Carpenter is the MASTER of horror mives, end of story.
Stephen King is the master of thriller and horror novels. Period.
Thumbs up if you agree.
