  • Ive signed the petition against the new proposal. I am gonna be a Pilot in about 2 years. I am now a student, but this development is very dangerous. As said in this video about Colgan. The planes will come done like leaves falling from the trees in Autumn.

  • Obviously there are two issues here. But the most crucial from the UK's point of view is that we can have tighter regulations that the EU, just not less. Is there a proposal to reduce our regulations to match the minimum EU requirement?

  • @ComedicInstincts, so the rules would be news for them too? I assumed UK is asked to introduce rules that are already used in most UE countries. What an odd thing to do, change the rules without having them tested by time ...

  • What is the difference between this legislation and other legislation by EASA that has no safety motive but purely geared towards political harmonisation at the expense of safety. The British IMC is a case in point to be replaced by something that will put pilots in danger. Part M maintenance should have been enough warning to show us that we are running like lemmings towards chaos. The sooner we come to our senses and divorce ourselves from this madness the better before the costs destroy GA

  • Europe is not the issue - flawed thinking on the subject of fatigue is. Try flying a slick 737-800 that runs on a 1980's 286 computer and very much requires total concentration to fly safely in some very difficult conditions within Europe. Men and Women are not machines!

  • The objective of this is to have the UK out of the EU in what fits them. So, you want to compete with all the Europe’s operators with different rules??? How about if you are considered for EASA a TCO? (Third Country Operator)

    As we (europeans) know you are in the EU not because the British people want but because the American foreign policy wants to have a way of stopping the franco-german alliance, so please tell your government you want to pull out of the EU.

  • Pah! If the dictate was HALF hours and HALF pay for 'Safety' - they'd strike! Misleading graphics - iffy 'facts' Some work hard, some not, many I know have it cushy. UNIDENTIFIED "independent research"? Meaningless! "4x the legal blood alcohol limit for flying" showns as 4 PINTS?? A Nonsense! An intended to shock deception which discredits this. When were standards set ? Modern craft have such reduced workload to those of old..maybe we need hours for different types steam/glass etc.

    This isn't about pay or hours. I used to be a long distance lorry driver, working 70 duty hours/wk. Now I'm a Pilot for a UK airline.I find this job far more tiring than the lorry driving and exceptionally more demanding. To those that say "it's all automated", I could spend all day trying to explain but it would take you to be put in a simulator to understand. There's so many things that could result in danger if you make an error. Would you want a tired crew flying you?

    No need to put me in a sim - I made them & have ATPL friends. You miss my point. Glass cockpit & nav mean your job is SAFER with LESS workload than when the regs were made.If you expected it to be as easy as driving a truck then perhaps its not the job for you. The only thing falling out of the sky are salaries - ALL our reality, FEW on ATPL income. Tired? Tell it to hospital staff! Playing the safety card is a predictable ploy. Play a little less-rest a little more. Be well.

  • I have signed to stop these faceless Euro bureaucrats imposing law on Great Britain, a law made up by bitter socialists who are NOT voted by the people. I have had enough and so has the rest of the UK.

  • @nobbysfilms you clearly are a very unintelligent human. Firstly, if it is legal, it's very difficult to argue the case of being tired, and can get the pilots into difficulty. Secondly, for the responsibility, the hours worked, the training required and the liability involved, it isn't that well paid

  • @theking the answer to your question is simple - the majority of British people want nothing to do with Europe and do not want to be part of it-we pay millions in and all we get back is mass immigration to out little island and some cheese eating surrender monkey in Brussels telling us what we can or can't do. The ENGLISH channel separates us from Europe and we are a separate nation.

  • I appreciate your effort but you can be sure there will be loads of idiots who are jealous of your profession and the sky high wages (hahahaha) who would quite happily see you working 24hours/day, 25days/month just to say "good on you f*er, shouldn't be a pilot!" the general public think you fly 2,5hours to the destination, spend 2-3days on the beach and fly back. i think they hardly realize how hard it really is...

  • Great video - but not very informative. How and what do these changes propose? How long do you fly for now and what is set to change? Dangerously tired? 4x the legal blood/alcohol limit for flying? Vital facts and figures are missing from the campaign. Sorry but you can't expect people to sign a petition without the full facts!

  • @d716agq Well the main change will allow airlines to make pilots fly when too tired to, it's very different to driving, trust me, driving is a walk in park by comparison. If tired in car you can park and sleep, at 100ft from landing we can't, we need to land a plane full of people, without killing anyone. Also, if current rules would increase price, why aren't they higher now? All new rule does is increase profits and saves face of flag carriers who struggle

Consider the fact that every time a pilot signs the dispatch sheet he is taking reponsibility for hundreds of lives along with about £3billion worth of aircraft etc. I wouldn't want an overworked tired pilot landing my flight after a long haul trip - would you?

  • @thejking - Because at the moment the UK have different Flight Time Limitations to the EU. That is the point of the video.

  • @AlessandraDeSaint Do you drive a car? how dangerous is that? About 2500 people die every year on British roads (and ours are relatively safe), about 7 each and every day, if we are worried about saving lives. Life is dangerous, get over it.

    do you realize that blaming pilots for "expensive" air tickets is odd too: every passenger probably pays about £1 towards the pilots wages.

  • @yoan061 It looks like the Government’s e-petition website does only allow UK citizens to sign. However, it is worth circulating the video to everyone you can. Even if they can’t sign the UK petition they should know what is in store for EU FTLs. Letters and emails can also be sent to MEPs and MPs wherever in Europe

  • @d716agq @alchemisj Unfortunately there is a massive restriction meaning I can't detail the rules (I've tried multiple times!) the new rules may make flying far less safe than you think, trust me! And it will NOT affect prices (some places I go it's cheaper to fly than drive or train!) you can message me for details of current and new rules. I've worked to limits I current rules and it's tiring, don't wish to experience new ones

  • @martyw1985 Give me something (we don't need all the rule changes, just the "worst" ones), the video contains little facts, the responses to my post contain no facts, I gave a fact, flying is far saver than driving and people do not have a problem driving, so clearly flying is more than safe enough.

    If it will not affect prices then why would the airlines want it? The video states that they want to improve productivity, i.e. lower prices, you state the opposite....

  • @d716agq - The EU are trying to seriously water down current regulations, we want to KEEP our CURRENT flight time limitations or, at least, for new ones to based around scientific evidence and not formed by the commercial pressures placed on regulators!! Meaning flying would stay just as "expensive" as it currently is, and would hopefully prevent it from becoming more dangerous.

    And your idea that all pilots are "rich people" is misinformed and untrue.

  • "Rich" is relative and I'm sure that pilots make perfectly good money. If not then go and do another job, i heard that train drivers make £40k and they dont even have to worry about altitude or whether to go left or right, total doddle.

  • @d716agq Since when has flying been restricted to 'rich people'? are you still living in the 1960's? The LCC revolution throughout Europe has allowed all socio-demographic's to have access to low cost air travel. (And knowing a couple of Ryanair pilots, I would not call them 'rich')

  • Is it me or did that video not tell me anything. Doesn't say what the Uk regs are and what proposed changes are that would make things worse. It's a scare video especially. I'm all against pilot fatigue, especially with the number of flights I've been on recently and the fact a close friend is a steward, but I don't feel educated enough to sign the petition and further more I don't feel motivated to go look.
