Music History - originally the "Paquita Grand Pas" consisted of only 1 variation - this one. It was written by Minkus for Ekaterina Vazem in 1881 when the Grand pas was added to "Paquita" by Petipa. It was Mathilde Kschessinskaya who bnegan teh tradition of having a large suite of variations - when she performed in the Pas at Peterhof in circa 1910, she invited her fellow ballerinas to participate as well by bringing their favorite solos from other ballet.

This is the "original" variation for the lead Ballerina of the "Paquita Grand Pas" - it was composed in 1881 by Minkus for the Ballerina Ekaterina Vazem. Anna Pavlova was the 1st to dance the variation which is now traditional for the lead Ballerina in the "Paquita Grand Pas" in 1904. That variation is by Drigo, & was originally composed for the ballerina Vavara Nikitina when she danced the lead in Petipa's 1892 revival of Taglioni's original "La Sylphide".
