I was the unhappiest guy on the planet as soon as I got dumped several months ago, but after some reading I stumbled upon a free resource that taught me how to mend my relationship! I want to share it with all the heartbroken fellas out there but youtube wont let me post it here, so I put it on my profile. Hope it works for you personally too!
Things like these make me laugh. Why are some of you so pressed about accents, origins, people's lifestyles, etc? I know some Russians who condescend her by saying "she's not Russian". Maria is happy with her life, so we should all be happy for her; no one should judge or discriminate people based on their heritage & how they choose to live their lives. Even if she has adapted the American lifestyle, she plays for Russia. What, is she disgracing Mother Russia by "not really being Russian"? STFU!
Her Russian is pretty much perfect which is surprising considering she lived in the US from the age of 7. Her accent is barely notable (I am actually not sure if there is any accent at all, just as someone said there is a slight difference in tone).
Maria's russian is even more fluent now than it was here! for the people who critisize her for having an american accent when she speaks, how fucking dare you! how can you expect her not to sound like an american? im not even american or russian but critisizing her like that is a disgrace, you should be lucky she actually can speak any russian pssst!
she has an accent but then again is understandable since she came to the u.s. when she was 4 the only place where she spoke russian was at home its ok she still beautiful
sharapova is american whatever her origin. can't feel anything from russian. her russian really sucks. when she speaks american english, she sounds like millions american young girls.
@tvaddict4u U know being russian it's something about your soul not about surroundings. And her russian is very good(2006 in this video), now its even better.
@19maddin96 Well, I am the one who lived in North America for about 15 years now and I can tell you this: Russians can recognize that she is not living in Russia. It is not the accent she has in Russian, it is slightly tone and melody difference from those kids who live in Russia. Nevertheless, she can fix it living in Russia for few months maybe a year. I am Russian, never lived in Russia though but some Russians say I speak Russian better than many Russians in Russia so I can compare.
Yes Russian is her first (native) language, but most children who immigrate to the U.S. and completely surround themselves in the English language and then try to revert back to their first language, still have to struggle a bit as they have lost the habit of speaking their native tongue. She is obviously fluent in her native language but does not flow in her speech compared to if she were living full time in Russia.
@Viaxelibri : She was 7 when she came to USA - she had been speaking Russian for a long time before that! You act as if it's odd that she speaks good Russian!...duh, what else would you exepect?
Don't know jack about Russian, but I know her English is good. Her pronounciation is good, especially nowadays. Few years ago she'd make lots of grammatical errors, but those aren't that apparent anymore- practice I guess with all the interviews. She also answers a lot better now- her answers are naturally more mature.
how can anyone say her russian is not perfect? she couldnt speak a word of english when she was a child for goodness sake, so surely she knows russian pretty damn well.
@nightwishrocker21 it sounds really good. the only things that sounded a little weird to me was when she said "i took a chance..." and it seemed like she translated it literally from english. oh well whatever she's gorgeous=]
Well, she has lived a while in the US, but her speech is fairly good. Its what I would expect from a girl her age. So no, its not true, she speaks very well
does she have an accent when she speaks russian??? (like an english accent)

I'm kind of confused. I've just heard that some players from Russia said that she had a very strong accent and that they could hardly understand her.
Now I've watched a few interviews in Russian with her and read the comments below and everybody says that she doesn't have an accent.

For girl who was raised in US - she speaks very good russian, without these ''eeeeeemm'' or ''aaaaaamm'' between the words.
Also her english is very good - as far as we know that people from Russia almost always have this huge accent.

not so many. Her pronunciation is perfect both in russian and english. There are insignificant grammar mistakes sometimes but overall it's ok

Thanks for you comment!
But what do you mean with "a girl her age"? She is already 22 or something like that, or is it even for a Russian very difficult to learn Russian?
(I'd like to study study for Russian translator next year)
