  • Robotye means slave in Czech, it means worker in Russian. And Rossum's Universal Robots was a play not a book. And it's not as bad as people say. Very dated though.

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THAT DENT ON YOUR CHIN ! I LOVE IT, KNOW WHAT I MEAN! PEACE OUT ! HEY CHECK OUT [ STOVEPIPE JOHNSON ] HE HAS SOME WORDS !

  • Really interesting stuff...also nice tits!

  • "Robots" come from a play, not a book. Other than that, yeah. It's really interesting because it was, by all accounts, not a very good play.

(Most persons would consider a play and a book separate entities).

  • She is right about barbarian.I know that since i was 6 like any other greek i guess...

  • @Aouas pay your damn debts to the banks and once u pay them, sit down and shut up. greek.

  • She looks a bit like Tobey Maguire

  • Interesting but I could do without the lesbian photos

  • that was cool

    and you are very pretty

  • Interesting, but the explanation of the word 'robot' is incorrect. In 1920, Czech play writer Karel Capek wrote 'Rossum's Universal Robots', a stage play in which robots (nowadays we would rather call them androids) are produced massively on an island, and them take over the world. So it wasn't a book from 1923, but an internationally successfull play from 1920. No implantations either - that's cyborg talk. The czech word 'robotnik' means 'laborer'.

  • I thought that "Barbarian" actually derived from the Berber tribe in Africa. When the greeks encountered them, they called them Berbers because of the sounds of a lot of the words they used. Afterwards, any other tribe that had similar sounding language was likened as 'Berbarian'. Later, it was turned to 'Barbarian' and referred to any foreign uncivilized people. The Roman equivalent, which mainly referred to Germanic, French and Btits was 'Celtic'.

  • interesting and pretty well on target. my only add, probably semantic. is about the word "slave-robot" yes its slovac worker etc.. though the chips parts i haven't heard of. they were forced " slave workers" ie.. slave-robot-worker, pretty much all similar. keep it up.

  • WTF 1.27???

  • babylon comes from Bablyonia an ancient civilization and the concept of babbling on from that because of the Bible story. Bablylon predated Judaism.

  • how bout my avacados in your mouth?

  • where did the word babylon come from? Babble-on

  • there is no death....but u die..so ur the angel who make u die

  • where did the word testicle come form?

  • You girls hear that? If you have hypoactive sexual desire, lick a AVOCADO. Just don't choke on the hairs. That would be bad.

  • How about the word pitch? There is about 50 def. for it in the old Oxwards.

  • not what I expected from the title.

  • What is the definition for Theo-mysticism?

    Is Kabbala theo-mysticism?

  • Where does the word federal come from?

  • Who was the SF writer?

  • Wasn't sure which 1923 reference the speaker was refering to in regards to "robot" so I checked The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction where it states that in 1923 the word "robot" first appeared in Karel Capek's play R.U.R. being derived from the Czeck "robota" (means; statute laborer). Also worth mentioning in robotics terms is "humanoid robots" which resemble humans which is how Capek describes them in his play as robot artificial human beings of organic origin. Word request: ANDROID

  • which is the origin of word "slave"?

  • slave: Middle English: shortening of Old French esclave, equivalent of medieval Latin sclava (feminine) Slavonic (captive): the Slavonic peoples had been reduced to a servile state by conquest in the 9th cent.

  • Carlie, (excuse the spelling if it is incorrect)

I have a completely antiquated alpha-male notion that I would express with a pejorative comment but my conscious desire to remain civilized and unimposing is improving my current monologue. In other words, I find your intelligence completely alluring and am fighting the urge to make a more concise and undoubtedly ignorant and sexist remark. "ur hawt" Please forgive me. I love your videos.

  • Didn't you do this video before? I feel as though I'm reliving another lesson on the same words. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but I could have sworn that you did this video.

  • This was a failed attempt to try to convert a video into the new wide screen format.

I think I figured it out now though.

  • Oh ok. I think the video should be called, ...testing...testing...testing, 1...2...3. Thanks for clarifying it. I was gonna commit suicide because I thought I was losing my mind.

  • excellent vid :)

    Peace, Love and TRUTH!

  • Where does the term "DITTO" come from?

    As in:

    Sam: "I Love this Pasta."

    Jill: "Ditto!"

  • Ditto means they mean the same thing as what you just said.

    Sam: "I love this Pasta."

Jill: "Ditto!" (or in other words: "I love this Pasta, too.)

  • Well every one knows what ditto means, but I want to know it's origins

  • ditto: early 17th cent. (in the sense 'in the aforesaid month'): from Tuscan dialect, variant of Italian detto 'said', from Latin dictus 'said'.

  • I am learning werds

  • When I click for Full Screen, the side bars disappear and the video looks either stretched or squeezed (I'm only 25 seconds into this).

Maybe it was squeezed when you made it and then stretched by Full Screen; or it was stretched when you made it and squeezed by Full Screen. idk.

  • It was probably fine when you uploaded it but then stretched by YouTube. Try 640 x 360 for widescreen.

  • Czecholovakia? No such country!

  • Czech Republic

  • and the word cunt came from the word fuck wich came from the word asshole which came from the word bollocks

  • this gives me dayshavew (idk how to spell it)

    do the word dayshavew.

  • .. déjà vu? :3

  • nice info: thx :D

  • Actually before the Scifi book was written Slavic word for worker was "Robot" and it was used for folk characters like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz.

  • I'd like to hear where the word "label" comes from and perhaps also something about WHY we use words to express ideas

  • Then study linguistics. Of course you will find MANY theories about language development. You will want to specialize on cognition and communication.

  • wide... but not wide enough!

  • lol? how long do you want it...

  • Favorited *****

  • hahaha I love how the guy is ADDICTED TO CAULK...

  • good channel

  • very interesting. thanks. where does the word Picture orginate.

  • the word picture comes from an old indoeuropean root for pricky, peaked, spikey, penetrating; for instance the greek name for the picts in scotland was piktoi (latin: picti) and meant tattooed people..., in german language there is still today the word pieken/piken = to prick (spoken: peek|en), or think of the weapon pike wich is very useful for penetrating enemy bodies..., there are much more examples like the latin word for woodpecker = piculus or the old baltic god pikolos/piktis...

  • Very interesting. Thank you. I am learning something at last.

  • I would like to hear some astrotheologic terms and words, and symbolism. thanks in advance

  • barbarian: there ignorant because we cant understand them. hahaha!

  • "barbarian: there ignorant because we cant understand them. hahaha! "

greeks were the masters of logic, if you are

the intelligent ones, the other ones who can´t speak so well and educated like you must be stupid and uneducated, otherwise they

would know to speak in a appropriate way (which means greek :) ), pure logic...

  • Brilliant! And well stated. I have often found that those who make logic a proof of their superiority are the likeliest to succumb to illogic. And I believe the reason to be that they keep narrowing their perspective until, as the old saying goes, "they can't see the forest for the trees".

  • Very interesting!

Maybe nice to know: In dutch "addiction" is translated as "verslaafd" which contains the dutch word "slaaf". "Slaaf" is "slave", so we do actually have the exact meaning that you just described.

  • I'm curious as to the origin of the word:

    gun

  • maybe you can do a vid for words that are currently considered sexual. Such as penis going to "dick", breasts to "boobs", or vagina to "pussy". (cat ??)

Either way it is fantastic that you are in the phyc team. Love your vids ^-^

  • thats an interesting idea

  • nice, maybe you can do a 10 min vid. I think 4min is too short :D

  • not quite widescreen , you need to upload a anomorphic hd1008ip 1440h 1080v , hope that helps

  • hmmm...yea i'm not sure if my video editor has that ability. It's kind of old.

  • for an old editor the quality is still sharp , before you encode check the export settings , i usually go for divx or wmv depending on the length , you could always use an video converter like Stoik and change the resolution from there ,

  • I think i might have figured it out. I'll try it with the next videos. :)

  • well now, huh!

  • Nice job cutie.
