  • He will have a new studio album soon, just you wait and see!

  • I wonder if he listens to this song often? But, his voice is undoubtedly unforgettable,

  • Steve Perry's voice sounds like chords not one note at a time. As if he has accompanyment when he doesn't. True and effortless talent!

  • I feel soooo fortunate to have seen them on this tour!! Nov.1986 at the Hampton Coliseum!! Great concert (even though we had to sit behind the stage). General admission seating back then.....so many people, but we did our best to try to get a good seat. So much energy from the group and the crowd! I'll never forget it! Those were the days! I was only 20 then!

  • I will never forget on my 35th birthday dancing all night till the sun came up with my ex.Still good memories though. And with who ever I meet again I would do it all over again.

  • Steve Perry is writing songs and wants to record this year...so YES...he will be back!! And he still has his voice!

  • This almost makes me want to cry. I would do ANYTHING to see them all live!!! OMG why wasnt I born in the 70's??? :,(

  • Steve Perry is one of the top rock male singers ever!!!! Long Live Steve

  • This is forever...

  • Unfortunately, that night couldn't go on forever and I never got to see Steve Perry's Journey in concert. It would have been incredible, I'm sure.

  • @79ca97

    Tragic in my eyes.

  • Steve Perry sacked Steve Smith, One of the greatest drummers ever

    WHY??

  • @FirebrandNIRE I hear he wanted more control of the band because he wanted it to be more of a pop band.

  • @rubbersatin

Steve is a Jazz man not pop :-/

  • @FirebrandNIRE He fired Smith and Ross Valory, and later said he regretted it. Oddly enough when Perry was dropped for a new singer Smith didn't want to rejoin Journey. (Steve Smith is a jazz drummer by training, as was Perry before Journey.)

  • journey effin rocks

  • What's up with Tequro Taco Bell commercial in the beginning..He is NOTHING more then a 4'11 PIP SQUEEK(PIT FOOL)..YOU FUCKING MIDGET PUNK...LOLLLOOOLLOL..You dont belong in front of a JOURNEY video...YOU LITTLE BITCH BOY..BWAHAHAHAHA

  • hey i di see thenew Journey whe they play in COLUMBUS BOY THEY NEED STEVE BACK

  • Wow, So many good memories with this song...

It doesn't matter how many years have passed

    ••••••••••••••••• Journey STILL RULES! •••••••••••••••••

  • I'M TRULLY IN LOVE WITH STEVE PERRY AND JOURNEY.

  • He is a FRIEND ..... I haven't met yet. How he warms my heart and lifts my soul! ~ Brokenwing

  • so many songs we are able to enjoy, can not accept that he will not sing again, just can´t

  • Journey Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Love Them!

  • STEVE PERRY- THE VOICE!!!

  • THE BEST!!!!!!!! Thanks Steve!!!!

  • randy got fat "hes in it to eat it"

  • So sad he will never, ever sing with them again... *sigh*

  • @ViciousAlienKlown the miss dony know shit

  • there is no one like Steve Perry and never will be :) you are missed ... ! deeply

  • Steve Perry's voice gives me the chills. It's so unique and makes the music the hits that they are. LOVE YOU STEVE! This happens to be one of my favorites.

  • Journey with Steve Perry is an award winning Super Group. Everything after Steve's departure has been karaoke night with the band that used to be Journey. There is simply no comparison. Looking for validation? Look no further than the fact that the band has always looked for/ will always look for someone who "sounds just like Steve". Think about it.

  • His voice!!!!!

  • No one has a range like Steve Perry.

  • ahh el amor.........

  • WOW....such an underrated song. Completely comparable to Faithfully, in my book. The entire album was fantastic! Just as good as Frontiers. This totally takes me back to when I saw them at the Hampton Coliseum in November 1986! What a concert! Those were the days.....

  • What a song.

  • Also on another comment ..unfortunately ..I also hate to say that I dont think we will see STEVE PERRY perform again..at least not w Journey ..but at least i can say i saw hime ^ times w JOURNEY and once or twice when he Solo toured ..let me just say this for those who never saw PERRY....HE HAS A VOICE LIKE NO OTHER,,, just watch some voice clips on you tube of PERRY .. UNBELIEVABLE

  • as far as this video and how his Voice sounds from 2:20 n later at the highs ... if you like his voice there ..you REALLY should listen to alot of the early journey ..like evolution album departure etc..STEVE just CRANKS them out...

  • Saw the new journey this summer, Arnal was awesome, but still would have liked to see steve in the rock and roll hall of fame city.... oh well..... still was beyond expectations. this is my future wife and my song. come back 87'.... we miss you

  • 1987 ♥

  • eff you vevo!

  • i enjoyed this song very much but it made me sad because it reminded me of how my girlfriend died at a party that i went with her to if only that night did last forever

    RIP marlyn

  • hey hermosa y electrizante cancion, steve perry lo maximo, journey es para mi la mejor banda, todavia estan presentes 40 años despues, arnel pineda tiene su estilo, rejuvenecio a la banda,exitos........................

  • This must have been AWESOME, Journey with special guests " The Outfield " check them out, you will NOT be disappointed........wish i had been there......

  • I think it pretty safe to say Steve Perry will never sing again for the public. I saw him once when he came to Florida and I will forever keep that memory in my heart. I have been watching all the Journey video's for the past two weeks and they bring back memories of my youth. Steve wants us to remember him as he was and so we shall. There will never be a voice like his ever. He is the only singer I know that sings with so much passion, something other singers could never do. Long live Steve.

  • @tthomas384 We I agree with the last part, but I must say Steve Perry will be back!!! :)

  • @tthomas384 I think he will be back!! and when he does it will be for one tour only!!

  • Sadly, I had forgotten about this song. I was driving away from my love just last night, when I found myself wishing the night could go on forever and I'd never have to leave him again. I came home, found this song, and cried listening to it for hours. Journey really knows how to hit you in the heart with their music.

  • Journey without Steve Perry isnt really the Journey that Ive known since way back when. NOBODY can replace Steve Perry. He is Journey. His replacement is just that. A replacement.

  • My all-time Favorite Journey song! The lyrics are so beautiful!

  • fantastico steve perry...uma das grandes vozes dos anos 80!!..obrigado!!!!

  • I wish i was born in the 70's to beable to see steve with Journey in Concert!!! that would be a dream come true!!!

  • They are looking for Mothers in the Hall of Fame.. Steve Perry of "Journey" talented singer discovered by his mother and encouraged. Mother in the Hall of Fame. Vote her in. A mother based on what your influences where to help her child and inspire her child to fame and talent such as Steve Perry the Voice of Journey. They are looking a fame of the person not what the mother did that was beyond the regular mother image. Hers was beyond these famed women. Look for my blog on Twitter.

  • Steve Perry could sing the phone book..

  • Boa malha.... faz-me falta isto...

  • Noone ABSOFUCKINLUTLY noone can touch Steve Perry!!!!!

  • the journey before was like the journey now junk

  • @MrDottyskids Then why the hell are you watching....sounds like you have problems.....DON'T WATCH if you can't say anything nice ! ! ! ! ! !

  • @MrDottyskids

    Go whine somewhere else.

    Attention whore.

  • @1984jee - Yes, i meant to say Steve Smith. Don't know how i missed that error. Anywho, i have seen the real deal and it can never be replaced. I fill the void by watching old videos and listening to my CD collection, not by going to see a replacement singer and closing my eyes pretending it is Perry. Don't know how one could do that anyway. The difference is unmistakeable....nobody can replace that voice.

  • одна из самых красивых песен!

ive never heard something comparable with what THE VOICE did from 2:20!!!!!

  • WHY DO PEOPLE GIVE THE NEW GUY SUCH A HARD TIME SERIOUSLY STEVE IS GONE!!!! BUT WE CAN'T ALLOW THE MUSIC TO DIE !:

  • @luvableonme Probably because SP is such a huge mega legend. He is untouchable. I applaud Arnel for trying, and Arnel is good. However, to attempt to immulate SP is not kool. Which is why he is given such a hard time. Not because Arnel isn't good, but because of who he is attempting to copy. And he is copying Perry, like it or not (Who was Arnel doing a cover of on the 2nd disc on Revelations? SP of course). Steve is not 'gone', just no longer in Journey. Forever in the hearts of the fans.

  • @punkchickkool I believe the band did the 2nd disc of revelation to show that arnel could handle Steve's material. But can he? They had to lower the keys to the songs of every Perry song after one tour. And arnel fanboys at first wanted to embrace the fact that they thought Arnel sounded like Steve. But when they realized that was crap, they came up with the "but Arnel's voice is more rockin" theory. Which is also crap. People need to come to terms. Arnel is decent. But Steve is "the voice"

  • When Steve Perry is singing even the Angels listen

  • There of those of us that feel this way (a lot actually). While i wish upon all wishes that i could see a reunion at some point in the future, but it is not the end of the world should it not happen. I'm perfectly content going back in time with the preserved video's and music, because THAT IS WHERE IT WAS AT.

  • @johnawesley1 - Who's bitching about the past? For me it's quite simple really. When it comes to Journey i CHOOSE to live in the past because that is where it was at with this band. There IS no present or future with this band. Schon continues to ruin the legacy. Steve Steve said it best - "Journey without Steve Perry does not interest me."

  • @Sighlense I think you meant to say Steve Smith...he also said..." Journey without Steve Perry is like Jack without the box"....love both those Steves and I totally agree, it's a shame that such a great band has its legacy ruined for money.

  • man i love this tune. Journey with Steve Perry is freaking phenominal. Nothing against the new guy but its not the same....

  • We all love and miss Steve Perry, but he's history with the band. Life goes on. Quit bitching about the past and live in the present or miss out on the future.

I'm sure that Steve does not like people downing the new singer Arnel, nor comparing each other, as they are different. I'm sure that both he and the band if it was possible would be together again of course. Some things can't be mended easily or without much time to heal.

  • If U get A chance , Even if it's just One & U loose it ...Do what ever it takes to get it back , Or The Night will be Lost foever...

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR STEVE FANS

Steve does post messages on the internet and he's constructing an official web-site, you can already see the page! Steve does sometimes look on youtube.

  • Just watched Journey on the today show this morning. Good performance for sure but it made me so sad because it made me miss the soulfullness of Steve Perry's voice even more.

  • @LK5911 I saw that too....I felt that Arnel really ruined the song, he put his twang (as i say it) into it and he ruined it/.

  • @LK5911 Yeah, there's just something missing and something wrong with journey singing these songs without Steve... I think they should simply make new songs and not use a singer who tries to copy Steve... It's just wrong! I know the new guy is a great, great singer, but you can't replace the person you love! It's just not a possibility!

To be honest with you, it just really, really, really hurts! It's sincerely not right! I grew up On Journey and Steve Perry! I bought every album.

  • Enough with the Perry thing... He's gone... They had a very good singer "Steve Augery" and Schon let it go... No with Arnel, I don't like

  • @al676677 KISS OFF ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • Oh let me linger here for awhile and remember this fabulous band and hear this song that dearly Remembers Our "Journey".

Why Can't This Night Go On Forever?

  • Ah this takes me back. I remember seeing Journey during this tour. I miss Steve. :(

  • "Like a photograph that time won't erase..." one of the best line in rock, me thinks.

  • Makes me so sad to see this video. The sheer joy of watching them perform-just hope Steve will dig down deep and record the songs he has ready-and give himself and us the sheer pleasure of sharing his talent with us one more time...

  • Steve Perry's voice is irreplaceable i don't what other says!

  • Did ya all see Steve drop from the helicopter???? Thrilling huh? I luv this song *****

  • Steve Perry... the best singer I've ever heard!

  • What He does after 2:22 is totally breathtaking! That really connects. What an incredible voice!

  • @ThePerryholic oh yeah ! ! ! ! ! ! and he's sooo cute

  • Journey has most certainly NOT been Journey since 1973. They weren't popular until Perry joined, and haven't been since he left. Why is this vid no longer available on mobile devices???

  • @steveperrycrazy - I graduated from highschool in '84 which in my opinion was the bands peak, although ROR ranks up there with the best. I am SO glad to have grown up in the 80's - Good times indeed. I've seen the real deal...doesn't get any better than that. Everything else is just imitation....

  • White Lotus, that about sums it up for many of us...

At least the many, many years ago part ;-) LOL

  • This alway makes me think of that last night I spent with my love before I moved alway from my hometown many, many years ago...

  • Man im 16! Ive always wanted to see Steve live or get to meet him! Im missing you Steve please start recording again! I'll NOT Be Alright Without You!

  • same here im with you i want to meet him too.

  • @SteveFanPerry oh there is someone else,i keep tell'n myself.:)

  • @LK5911 thank you for sayn that to her...yeah its the sad truth..... we miss you steve......

    STEEEEVE PEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ................

  • @masterphunk me too

  • We miss you Stevie!!!

  • 3 people want the night to end

  • jeez ! im falling for steve over and over again with this song..........that voice, that face, that hair....my...makes me wonder why i was not born earlier:-(

  • The new singer is a good replacement for Steve Perry. Also they still have Neil Schon

  • You can't compare Pineda to Perry, because they're two different singers. Perry has the emotion and the feeling in his voice. Pineda just has a different emotion and different feeling. I prefer Perry, but I cannot take away from Pineda's talent. He can sing.

  • OMG!..this song always makes me wish i was already around during steve perry's time on stage.......for those of you who have seen him in person then, i am soooooo jealous of you, you have something that can never be taken away from you.....

  • 2:37- 3:07 i could and have just listen over and over ...smooth

  • Steve has thy most dynamic voice of all time

  • Does anyone have Steve singing this in a live version?

  • I have seen Journey and Steve Perry solo six times over the last thirty years. No comparisons here because there is nothing to compare Steve to. Three different singers singing with Journey. My opinion, yes, they were good, but Steve was simply the best by far.

  • It has NEVER been a COMPETITION with Others.

It JUST Was and Still Is.

NO ONE has created singly on their own this sound. Steve created it and others broke and break themselves trying to keep Journey going.

Steve Took the Voice of Journey with Him. THE END! It had been done for many years now and it will remain that WE will Never Forget Him and His Magical Voice.

  • You don't come to a Steve Perry video and make comments that someone else is the "Voice" of Journey OR of the song he molded and anyone who tries to copy his style and voice BREAK themselves against TRADITION that was written before.

THAT TIME WILL NOT ERASE. it is right there in the song. The truth!

His voice has all the effects of a Siren drawing us into HIS world. I KNOW STEVE PERRY ~ Don't you? His Heart has touched mine forever. Close your eyes and think of him. And be still......

  • Augeri was the best as far as Journey 2 goes, but I like what glucnurse said about holding out for the real thing! One can always dream, right?

  • Sooo romantic, sensitive, passionate, and of course technically perfect ~ Steve Perry slays me yet again. One of my favorite videos of one of my favorite songs by my very favorite singer :-)

  • Good times. Got to see them one last time in New Jersey in '86. Had many opportunties to see them since, but no thanks. There is no replacing Steve Perry. Sure wish there was such a thing as time travel. I wanna go back....

  • @Sighlense ..in '86, i was in high school then in my country...the Philippines ,..and i've been a huge steve devotee since '83...ironic huh?....but yes i totally agree with you, there is no replacing Steve Perry....im 40 this year, and even up to now he still melts my heart...im still soooo totally in love with this man....the greatest rock voice of all time !!!...and i envy you for having all those memories of seeing them live in concert...i wish i had been born earlier....

  • Amo muito esse vocal!

  • no theyre not the same journey without steve, but you gotta see em cause theyre as close as theyve been in years.there arent any bands like this anymore and pineda sings his ass off.he has all the heart and he can about hit the same stuff as steve......

  • watching that made me wish i was grown up with good music

  • Love his vocals on 1:34

  • i remeber going to my high school prom and the d.j. played this song. it was perfect for that special night. thats been many years ago and i still think of my high school sweetheart to this day. sandy, i miss you after all these years.

  • @suncatcher18

OK, I am in e real nostalgic trip too...

[Laurie, I miss you too...;-) ]

  • this song is FAITHFULLY... disguised.

"why can't this night go on.....forever" ........followed by almost the same solo.

"i'm forever yours......faithfully".........followed by the almost same solo.

even the chords are the same before the solo.

but imo this song is better than faithfully actually.

  • @YearraeY you're incorrect...I'm a musician...first of all the 2 songs are written in 2 different keys...faithfully is written in "B major"...this song is written in the key of "A major"...the chords before the lead in faithfully are B, Abm, F#, and E...the chords leading up to the solo in Why Can't This Night Go On Forever are Bm, E, and A....even transposed to the same key as faithfully, these chords aren't even the same chord progression...but you're right, this song is better:)

  • @islapilluminati Thanks for the insight... :-)

  • @YearraeY now if you're talking about the verse chords of why can't this night on forever A, F#m, and D....then you would be spot on there.....because those chords if transposed would match the 3 main verse chords of faithfully....so I can see how you would hear "faithfully" in that progression

  • @YearraeY Yeah, I agree, it´s Faithfully written all over again. But I don´t mind, I love them both. Simply great stuff.

  • Great song!!!!!

  • My 23 year old daughter who was raised with Journey music said, "Mom, Journey is coming in town, let's go see them." I told her, "Honey, Journey is not Journey without Steve Perry!"

  • @LK5911 ... I have been saying that FOR YEARS!!! Glad I'm not the only one :D

  • @LK5911 Sooo true!! I'm a teenager and my mom says exactly the same thing. Journey is NOTHING without Steve, that's obvious!!!

  • @LK5911 You are absolutely correct! I am holding out for the real thing-Steve Perry...

  • @LK5911 You have taught your daughter a very valuable lesson. Let's hope she never forgets. Augeri wasn't all that bad though, eh?

  • @LK5911 thing change in life Arnel is doing a great job hope you took your daughter to the gig.

  • @LK5911 no lie. I raised my 2 kids on Journey and they know who the real voice of Journey is. I miss Steve so much, I wish he was able to tour again, but I know he's had some hip problems, sad for us, but the real Journey fans know who they love!!!! Steve Pery forever, accept no substitutes!!!!

  • @MsChemicalEngineer Amen to that!!!

  • @LK5911 They have Neal Schon. Of course it's Journey. Don't be so close minded.

  • @drcraptainfraction I assure you I am not close minded. I am offering the opinion that I enjoy Journey better when it had Steve Perry in it. Neal is aswesome, he always has been. I have seen them with all the singers, I just like Steve Perry the best.

  • @LK5911 Indeed..

  • @LK5911 Tru dat!

  • you are totaly right steve perry made journey.

  • @LK5911 AMEN!

  • @LK5911 You are correct, saw them in 2006 as a warm-up for Deff Leppard and they were basically boo'd off the stage. What a heart breaker that was. The '81 tour I saw was great.

  • @jimirvine1 That's funny, I was at that same concert and it was sad to see that. The band was good but nothing like with Steve Perry. I took my daughter to that concert and she was so happy she knew most of the songs. But of course I had Journey albums with Steve Perry singing playing from the time she was a baby and that goes for Def Leppard music too. Def Leppard rocked at the concert don't you agree? Hot night though.

  • @LK5911 Journey's been Journey since 1973, five years before Steve Perry joined them. And Journey's been Journey since he left. He's made fantastic music with one of the greatest bands in the world, but his time came and went.

  • @Monkeychild41 yes, there was Journey before Steve Perry joined, BUT, STEVE PERRY MADE JOURNEY! ! ! Journey is not the same, with Steve there was CHEMISTRY, and now the Chemistry is gone.

  • @yummiesteve And the chemistry's back with Arnel Pineda. Neal Schon himself said Eclipse was the first Journey album he's truly loved in a long time.

I'm not discrediting Steve Perry; he's an amazing musician. But people forget that he wasn't the first, and he certainly wasn't the last.

  • @Monkeychild41 Journey will never be able to replace Steve, his voice is just one in a million. Not saying Arnel is bad, he's not. I have been watching Arnel, the chemistry is just not there like it was with Steve. I have nothing against Arnel, he's prob a very nice person. It's just that Journey was not as popular a band til Steve came aboard and I think that's what alot of people don't understand.

  • @Monkeychild41 Steve Perry wasn't the first or the last, but surely the most memorable. SP was the one who made the mark for Journey. He is the one people will talk about forever. Since he's been gone, the chemistry, the magic and the charisma is gone. I'm glad Arnel's getting his turn, doing a good job. However, you would have to fully appreciate and be familiar with the former Journey to understand this. And Neal loves Eclipse because Neal loves Neal. Neal got to indulge himself on that.

  • @punkchickkool hey there Monkeychild41.....what you said sounds familar....hope all is well

  • @punkchickkool I agree with you that Perry is the most memorable...but Journey existed before Steve Perry, albeit very differently...Neal Schon is arguably one of the most versatile, underated guitarists on the planet...He smoked every metal guitarist out there for Dio's Hear N Aid album, while they were initially snickering at him...he schooled them...I am a musician...musically, they have written many "hits" without Steve...but they weren't recognized because you know who wasn't there singing

  • @islapilluminati So, you say Journey has written many "hits" without Steve Perry. Can you do everyone a favor & enlighten us as to the names of these "hits". All of us lifetime Journey fans must have been under a rock while these "hits" happend. Please educate all of us (Journey with Steve Perry fans). Tell us, are you refering to Journeys "hits" during the pre Steve Perry era, or the major "hits" from the quite successful post Steve Perry era? We're all on pins & needles for the answers.

  • @Nash1965H you're way too tense:)..I've been a Journey fan for 26 years, and they alone inspired me to learn 3 instruments...the key word was "musically"...and the quotes around "hits" was to indicate in a figurative sense...musically, the playing of Neal, Jon, and Ross has actually improved over the years...point being is that if you substitute Steve's voice (prime) to the music on their last 4 albums...no doubt they would have had many chart toppers...a compliment to both Steve and the band

  • @Nash1965H and to prove the point that the "hit" music has always been there over the last decade, just with the wrong guys singing it, I ask you to close your eyes and picture Steve Perry instead of the fill-ins singing any of the songs I'm about to list..."Higher Place", "All They Way", "To Be Alive Again", "Faith In The Heartland", "Place In Your Heart", "Better Life", "Never Too Late", "After All These Years", "Where Did I lose your love"...amazing "hit" music...but "the voice" was missing:(

  • @islapilluminati Don't even try to convert me to the newer music that way. You'll never do it. I'm a fan of Steve Perry's Journey. The minute that the "DUMB ASS" Neal Schon fired Perry. I stoped being a fan of any music from the band after that. You can preach all you want. But you're wastin' your time. Furthermore, need I remind you that Perry not only wrote lyrics for most of Journey's chart toppers. He also had a major role in pening much of the music. Journey isn't Journey without S.Perry!!

  • @Nash1965H I'm not in the converting business...but it's interesting how the truth always reveals itself in time...you obviously have a deep biased hatred and bitterness towards Schon...and like sucking on Perry's balls...it's okay...I, on the other hand do not let blind rage get in the way of objective musical observations...Schon and Perry are both bitches for different reasons...but a true journey fan would know this, yet still appreciate both for their artistry despite the nasty divorce

  • @islapilluminati You're not anywhere close to being worth anyones time. But still it's obvious you're trully in love with Schon. Talk about bitches. The old saying must be true for you. It takes one to know one. Grow up dude!

  • @islapilluminati actually, you're a clueless fuck for making such an assumption...if I was put in the position where I was only allowed to listen to just one of them for the rest of time, I would choose Perry over Schon without even hesitating...but at least Perry's balls won't be tickling the back of my throat like some people:)

  • @Nash1965H A true Journey fan wouldn't need to be 'converted'. I also disagree with your buddy, those songs he mentioned are just fine with the guys that sung them. It's not steve perry's journey, he never owned the band. He played a big part in their success, but they still played the music, just like they're doing today. I don't believe he was fired, he could no longer get it done, they chose to go on without him. How many years did he hold them hostage doing his 'solo' thing?

  • @LK5911 its true hes the one who completes journey

  • @LK5911 no offense or anything but thats not a good thing to say to your daughter

so you're basically saying she can't go to a concert because it's not the same singer?

  • @MeteoraXV No offense taken. She is 23 and an adult and can do anything she wants with or without me.
