thats crap all the vids of this I seen on youtube had to do with people parking their cars and then they lurch forward I would like to remind people as I have seen vids of 05 camrys people saying their pedal stuck I would like to remind people the camrys pedals were 07-10 on the model years
well, that may not help if something is wrong with the computer software - don't forget transmission is automatic meaning computer is controlling it...
@kc2ine That's not accurate. You shift it into neutral the power will not be transmitted to the wheels. Just z request if you don't really know you shouldn't offer advice.
For everyone else if you get in this situation. PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL!!!!!!
Literally SLAP the automatic into neutral with an open palm towards the dash or just depress the clutch for a standard shift. Leave the ignition switch alone. Then SQUEEZE the brake pedal, LOOK UP AND LOOK WHERE YOU WANT THE CAR TO GO and steer in that direction. Once stopped out of harms way, turn off the ignition and turn on the hazards. Same technique applies in the winter on icy, snowy roads. Always remeber that where you stare is where you steer
In Europe auto gear boxes are the exception not the rule! You cannot shove the stick into neutral without releasing the clutch!.....STAND ON THE BRAKES!!! AND STALL THE ENGINE.
Re STANDARD trans (Euro, Amer, Asian) the driver only has to DEPRESS THE CLUTCH to disengage the engine. Same result as shoving auto trans into neutral: disconnects engine from trans, wheels no turn & car no roll.
While standing on the brakes at very LOW speeds may work without brake burnout...at ROAD speeds (especially out-of-control acceleration), this would not only NOT stall engine, it would likely overheat brakes & render them totally useless.
Lol you have cleary never driven a car with manual transmission. It's soooooo easy to shove the stick into neutral without even touching clutch. Might be a bit harder when the vehicle is under full throttle, but it's still possible.

f that.. why not take the key out?
immo121 1 year ago
@immo121 Removing the key locks the steering. Not the best idea at 70mph.

@TwoTsandaB sorry my bad, was ment to say turn the key to the off position.

Toyota, we may be idiots originally for buying your cars, but we don't want to be kamikazists.

I think people should practice applying side brake while driving.
it will very slowly slow down your car.
it is not like your foot brake.
and also practice putting tranmission into neutral while drving.
some automatic trans will let you put the gear back into drive while the car is going fast.
other models won't let you put gear back into drive (like BMW) unless you apply brake first.
in this case, slightly press brake untill
you are able to shift back into drive.

All cars made after 1968 won't allow the key to rotate to the 'LOCK' position until you put the shifter into 'PARK'.

Automatic transmission pops into neutral with no effort. Manual transmission you've gotta push a little harder, but not much!
