Overall, the graphics used by TV stations in the late80 through the firs half of the 90s were the best with the 3D. I don't know what happened but in the late 90s, they began to suck as they went back to 2D.
I dunno if that's worse than the "splash" ident they continue to use today--it was nice the first three years they used it but it's starting to get old...and it was entitled "Start Here" but for some reason they stopped using that slogan. At least the yellow theme was somewhat unique for the five years they used it IMPO, but they really need to discontinue the "splash" animation and incorporate something new already for crying out loud!
Back then, older people used to do the announcements. Plus, technology was still a a tad primitive.
Now a days (if the company pays for an announcer), they use considerably younger people (20s or 30s). Combine that with the improved technology and you have "too much emotions".
It's a station ID, it's not supposed to be emotional, it's supposed to be quick and under the radar. Plus all he said was "This is ABC" how many emotions can you pack into 3 seconds without sounding like a moron? This is the best logo in my opinion, and looks more modern than those done 10 years afterwards.
Snoresville! This ident is boring!

I hate this "kinda-looks-like Weather Network" ABC ident. The graphics are ugly and boring.

The ABC ID "This is ABC" was v/o by Ed Jordan, who was a longtime announcer for the network.

Ernie Anderson also did the voiceover for this version of the ABC bumper.

I hated the simple yellow graphics in the late '90s. That was the lowest of the low.

During this season (89-90), I was a timid 3-year-old preschooler who loved to play with ghostbusters and ninja turtles
