you cant order cigarettes, ryo tobacco or smokeless tobacco online anymore. Its not fair for cigars and pipe tobacco to be exempt. Either they should repeal the pact act or make it across the board for all tobacco!
As I understand it the issue regards minors ordering cigarettes mail order. There is no practical way to verify age on web sales that any resourceful 15 y.o can not circumvent. An easy answer wold be to apply the ban to cigarettes but not cigars/pipes tobacco.
there is also really no way for tobacco to be legal for adults and inacessable to minors. just like with alcohol all they can really do is make it kinda annoying
A pack of newports here in NC are now 5.53 where I work. Governor also wants to raise the price of packs by another $1.50. This is ridiculous. Newports are gross anyways but prices are soaring.
I live in Italy and here ordering tobacco from other countries has been always forbidden as far as I can remember. Somehow this make sense..(depends on the point of view) but what makes me sick is that with all problems our governments has to solve why do they are concerned about tobacco ( ... not tobacco itself but the tax upon it...) and smoking in general? Stop this madness...
Hi, when I hear about all this bullshit I am realy happy that here in Germany, beside all the restrictations we have (no smoking in restaurants and in big pubs), we still can find more than 650 different types of pipe tobacco in qiet moderate prices (10 to 15 Dollars for 1,75 ounce).
Of course the anti-tobacco-hysteria is on in Europe, too. But the resinstence of people made some worse things better in the last monthes, e.g. now it is allowed to smoke im small pubs again.
(continued) Pipes themselves are not forbidden, only tobacco is (and I still want to import a Boswell when I have the means - it would be outrageously expensive with shipping and duties), but Mercado Livre - our local equivalent of eBay - bans any form of smoking-RELATED product, which would include even things such as pipe cleaners, lighters, T-shirts or vintage objects featuring cigarette brands... So, no 2nd-hand pipes either!
Here in Brazil we have never been able to order any form of tobacco. Domestically, the Brazilian Mail's regulations forbid sending any form of tobacco, which makes it impossible to mail-order it (on-line or otherwise). Customs regulations also forbid individuals from importing tobacco directly (only incorporated businesses can). It has always been so and predated the anti-smoking hysteria era. We are currently having a pipe tobacco shortage here and there's nothing we can do... :-(
I'm not living in the US, but I totaly support you against this unreasonable martial law against smokers. I wish I could contribute in the petition but it requires a US address and zip code.
I think there has to be something done on a global scale for the decent rational and reasonable smoking choice of free people. this is becoming a dectatorship rules against unharmful people who chose to enjoy an innocent smoke!!
F***king Bastard Government. The tax hike...well I guess whatever...now this...pisses me off to no end. They better not....or they are going to see alcohol, tobacco and firearms from me.
I hope this is not for real...I have googled it and can not find anything more recent than 2004 on 2824 ...are we sure this is still going through and did not die in session kids?? email me with info if you can find any info more recent that several years ago
I saw the link ...but again...its not dated....and no material i have found is anywhere near recent....if you can find anything recent...please let me know....
I watched that as well...it was very informative....but from what i understand that has to do with tobacco add placement...and the FDA regulating that which is not the same as the addition to the jenkins act of 1949...in which they were trying to limit the tobacco internet sales....the last info on that specific issue i have found are 2004 docs and articles....i am hoping it died in session...i can live with the add placement restrictions...i can't live with the internet sales being banned
After a little research, I came up with the same results as mibgd. Nothing later than 2004 regarding HR 2824. According to the Library of Congress website, this revision prevents shipment of tobacco unless duty has been paid in advance. It does not ban shipment of tobacco. UPS does not ship tobacco under its T&Cs, unless it is to be shipped to licensed vendors/distributors. Not sure where Pipephreaks got their information from either.
thanks for checking up...thats kind of what i thought ...i am the first one to defend freedoms...trust me i hate big government....but i think this is a non issue right now...so we can all relax for now...lets check sources a little better before we scare everyone next time!! cheers
Just like they outlawed the use of "miss" and "Mrs" in the EU, so they try to outlaw ridiculously here...this is the first signs of dictatorship, when they try to control the minor things.
Wow. The U.S. is converting itself into an undemocratic country like what I imagined some third world country to be. I dont envy the country these days.
third world countries have a lot more freedom for smokers compared to America, Canada, Australia, and parts of Europe.. Tobacco in all forms is a lot cheaper and they dont have as many smoking bans.
This bill doesn't directly address online sales, but it effectively ends it.
Banning shipment will mean you can't send tobacco as a birthday or Christmas gift to your dear old granddad. Friends can't buy and trade for each other and ship back and forth. So, this cuts much deeper than online sales.
The new tobacco tax would be more harsh on the little "brick and morter shop's", since online stores don't have the exact same tax deals as if it were bought in the state at a brick and morter type shop.
This means that the small shops might get put out of business and the big online corporations would grow. So, by eliminating the online thing, the tax would effect all tobacco shops equally.
I would like to urge you to vote against the proposed legislation that would make it illegal to purchase tobacco products and have them shipped across state lines. Not only would this harm an already damaged economy, this legislation, coupled with the tobacco tax is discriminatory and against the principles this great nation was founded upon. I appreciate you fighting for the rights of tobacco smokers to pursue their own happiness.
Excellent. We have to get everyone on board. This doesn't only affect smokers. If tobacco is villified, what is next? We have to protect the freedoms of the things we dislike as much if not more than the things we like or the whole ball of wax is at risk of going up in flames. Thanks Bojangles
i hate when you people use the economy and jobs argument to defend the biggest killer (tobacco). Its the only legal product which if used as intended kills. It kills more people than car crashes, guns, food poisoning, aids, alcohohol, illegal drugs, prescription drugs and terrorism combined.
How can you defend something like that and say its creating jobs?
people want us to quit smoking because apparently smoking kills babies according to the anti smoking commercials. the only problem is that they only show anti cig tobacco, but because pipe tobacco is still tobacco any law affecting cigarette sales also affects pipe tobacco. the government wants to deprive us the freedom to be happy with our unhealthy decision of smoking by making it so expensive and difficult to obtain tobacco that people won't find it worth the effort anymore.
They just want to exercise power. I believe all politicians, left, right, and center are addicted to power and they look for targets like us to exercise it on. 95% of the population couldn't care less whether we can order pipe tobacco online, and the bureaucrats will dress this up as a thing to promote public health and well being. So, we're a prime target. "Look at the great thing your government is doing - we're stopping these people from killing themselves with tobacco."
it is probably a way that they are trying to get people to go out and buy from local stores rather than warehouses. the more money in circulation in your own community the better?
