Maximova didn't need 180 degree extensions to make this dance beautiful (I'm talking about the pas de deux that is shown at the beginning). It really detracts, imo. Otherwise, there is a lot that is very nice here.
FYI: In Russia and other countries of the old Soviet Union, the Nutcracker is performed year round and not just in December like in America and Western Europe. And in America, as ballet companies get no financial support from the state the presentation of the Nutcracker only during Christmas time ensures packed houses and maximizes the dollars brought in.

My very first ballet video was the Bolshoi's Nutcracker with Ekaterina Maximova, and it's nice to see she still there coaching the younger dancers..
