This brings back memories. I remember my older bro took me to see the special editions in the theatres and I became in love with Star Wars. Then when this game came out I was so souped. Definitely one of the best titles on the N64.
After reading the novel of Shadows of The Empire in a week a couple years ago. I'm pissed Lucas canned the film tie in. The film would of been amazing imo. Also this is one N64 I really miss :(
The flight scenes in this games were the most spectacular stages the N64 would offer in years. The only cons were the extensive use of fog in the "on-foot" stages together with the 'slightly' canned sound. If only Nintendo had remained faithful to the original tech specs of Project Reality, this would have been really awesome. Cutting down on its horsepower was like signing a death sentence before launch.
For some reason I always thought when they developed this game, they tried to make it so it would seem like a 3D version of the Super Star Wars games for the SNES. You know having the jingle before a level starts, vehicle levels in between regular levels, having boss battles, and if you played the N64 version: Having the still images with text dialogue.
This game definitely takes me back to my days as a kid. I used to play the hell out of this game when I first got it for my N64 a lot with Super Mario 64 and StarFox 64.
The Hoth level was always my favorite because of the music and atmosphere. If I'm not mistaken this level, because of its gameplay, was one of the main inspirations for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, right?
If you still got that cartridge then maybe you can fix it. All you need is a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol (isopropanol). Just put some isopropanol on one side of the q-tip and clean the contacts on the open side of the game module. You will be amazed how much dirt goes off. Repeat this treatment until no more dirt comes off then dry the contacts with the dry side. In most cases, the module will work again. You also can use contact spray on the q-tip.
@grikuomega i tried it on Win7 and it doesn't work. i don't know why, but PC's Star Wars games are difficult to get read on machines which are not the "natives".
I used to play this game all the time and I didn't know a thing about Star Wars then and I wasn't able to figure out what to do. And that skinny robot scared the shit out of me then. And now when I see the Hoth scene when watching the movie, I get a feeling of nostalgia from playing this level 80% of the time in my childhood. Good ol' days.
@F2FRONT500 well not for me lol, even though the AVGN's review was awesome!! but i own this game and i was actually searching for a pc walkthrough, if you find one can you send me the link please?
Yeah, the pc version was better though in that it didn't have that annoying fog. But the N64 version had the wampa and AT ST cheat though :P. Sote was the first ever game where you could take part in the Battle of Hoth, sigh I remember those days well. Star Wars games and indeed games as a whole are getting boring nowadays...
i remember back to when i was about 6 years old and my parents bought us a N64 when it just came out and they got this game along with it. me and my brothers played this game religiously. years and years later i still think back to those days and could never remember the name of the game. seeing this video made me shit my fucking pants. holy fuck, talk about a blast from the past. this game had such a impact on my love for star wars.
ahh my brother was addicted by this game!how many hours of playing! but the best game for n64 was 007 goldeneye! fun guaranteeed especially when playing 1vs1! great!
i remember playing this as a eight year old kid! I thought the probe droids were saying, "fearless leader dead" and the only way to kill the AT-AT's was to crash your snow speeder into the cockpit. Good Times! I salute you N64 the best game counsel of all time!
I remember as a kid in '96, I wished they made this into an actual movie. I always wanted to see what Prince Xizor and Dash Rendar were like in cinema form...

dude.. seriously one of the best star wars games of the 90s. sooo many hours epnt playing this after xmas of 96. i used to do that crazy ass glitch where u gotta hold al the buttons and turn the analog stick a certain way and u get like 100 lives and could fuck with the wampas all day haha. good times :)
i just got this game today for 3$ off Ebay, it was like 70$ when i bought it new when it came out, or should i say, santa brought it to me for christmas, lol to be 9 years old again!
@HelmutVillam it's FUCKINGLY HARD!!! it took me a lot of tries to beat the whole game on jedi!! and what's more getting all challenge points!! damn, that's hard D:
i have really mixed "nostalgic" feelings of this game. Not sure how to explain it, on one part, i really enjoy seeing scenes such as these, but also, i can wake up screaming and sweating remembering this game. ...
I think it has to do with the blurry graphics, and "violent" sounds. It really F up my mind. I've never experienced that, with anything else i think. Especially the junkyard level, the memories horrify me. I was round 10-11 i think when i played this.
I remember playing this when I was only 10, the game actually scared me at the part with the wompas, and when you have to jetpack over those sewer monsters.
hey, just a quick question to people, there are multiple n64 consoles ive seen on offer including some with multiple games and in good condition with all the wires and a controller for £50, is that worth it or should i get a cheaper cruddier version for about half that with no games? any help would be greatly appreciated
ill always remember this game because i was 6 or 7 when i first played it. i was sick with the flu and i actualy got motion sickness from playing it lol
I loved this game so much... I always played it on easy because the monsters in the murky water scared me the way they growled so I never got to hard/jedi mode to see what happened at the end, if dash made it out alive, but I just bought it on ebay today so hopefully I get it soon... man I cant wait, Ill have to make some videos too haha, thanks for the whole walk through, 10 **********s
This was the first game I ever played on the N64 at 12 years of age, an iconic moment of my childhood seeing this level of detail in a game for the first time. My only experience of real 3D before to this game was Mechwarrior 2. This game was poorly rated simply due to the poor control systems of the bike chase level and the large amounts of fog in the first person shooter levels. It's highly underrated because it was one of the first games which married a variety of gameplay elements.

WOW!!! This brings back sooooooooo many wonderful Memories of my childhood! It's kinda trippy to see something that I haven't seen in 12 years. When looking back at the time I played this it almost seems like it was a different life time of a different person. So weird
this is the game i grew up with man i loved this game it really made me get into gaming just the 3D world and every thing is hard to beleive how far its come they should put this on xbox live market place =]
I saw this game for 4.99 at a game store, should I get it? it looks cool, I have rebel strike and bounty hunter for the Cube and Pod Racer for the N64

WOW!!! This brings back sooooooooo many wonderful Memories of my childhood! It's kinda trippy to see something that I haven't seen in 12 years. When looking back at the time I played this it almost seems like it was a different life time of a different person. So weird

They really should.
Along with Mischief Makers.
And Jet Force Gemini.
All three of those games were soooooo underrated yet so amazingly awesome.
