Nintendo had a trademark dispute with Atari Because of the "Star fox" title. Atari Released their Star Fox game on their 2600 console in 1983 (not related to Nintendo's version).
Nintendo had no problem using the title in North America for the SNES and N64 titles, but the company was forced to retitle it for Australian and European audiences. This was later resolved before Star Fox Adventures was released.
look it up in Wikipedia and you'll see what I mean.
Heheh, just an orchestration difference. They should have made a cool mix of Star Wolf's theme instead and kept the N64 version, as it's better than the Assault one.
why do they call it lylatwars here?

because it's a civil war in the Lylat System. the Starfox team against the evil mastermind Andross, who wants to blow up the entire system.

You have the 64 version right from the start but you need to unlock the Assault one. You get it when you beat The Wolf Hunts The Fox event on Hard.
