  • In memory of Trahn Ng a hug (American Dad Reference)

  • Perfect Song. Neil Finn is the best living Pop songwriter

  • In the beginning part, until you can see his guitar, it looks like he's sitting on his bed jacking off. Terrible observation I know, sorry.

  • Without trying to sound too melodramatic, there are those within the music industry who believe that Neil Finn is/was music's greatest songwriter.....BIG NAMES at that.

  • what a beautiful song this is.

  • way ahead of its time.

  • It reminds me my childhood

  • @abadipioh Me too, -sigh-

  • gosh i have heard this song so many times and never knew the name... and today just randomly clicked on it...a great surprise!

  • THIS WILL BE ALWAYS THE UNIQUE AND BEST VERSION

  • If your woman doesn't like this song, don't marry her. Simple test but it works.

  • @gwyntube I'll make sure to try it haha

  • I count for atleast 10,000 of the views on here

  • I love this song but, wow, sometimes I think people just look at pop that doesn't suit their tastes and decide to judge all modern music by that. I'm just glad I can enjoy this along with a Nicki Manaj song, some Jay-Z, a little Daft Punk, and some Cold War Kids. Loving the classics is great, but it doesn't hurt to get modern.

  • wow, didnt quite anticipate the level of popularity my original comment would make. Im honestly not occupying a high horse as some have suggested! All music must matter to someone now and forever.. but at the time i the comparable numbers filled me with much despair and i had to ask my question. Have a nice day guys!

  • @makerwidow Whatever Nikki Minaj will be around forever!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAHAHAHAHA so jk!!!

  • @alexbyrd12 Nikki Minaj may be around 'forever' but i am content that she will never be good

  • Such a tune

  • In this case the wall are you...

  • The funny thing is: this junk was panned in the 80s the same way pop in 2012 is, you just have an emotional attachment to it. This was the equivalent of a Katy Perry jam back in the 80s.

  • Still love this vid even after all these years.

  • he's hott!!! :)

  • absolutely a beautiful song

  • for over thirty years i always thought that "tears for fears" sang this song, i'm glad i never got in an argument over who sang this song. i would have felt pretty stupid.

  • always sounds and feels great after so many years ! Thanks !!!!

  • Girls beautiful of America , I hear this song when I wonder in Jennifer Conelly Megan fox Jessica Alba & Eva Longoria the for of the sun!

  • This is the kind of song you play at a high school prom...Has that slow, mellow beat...It's a good song

  • this song always sounds new....amazing

  • this beats the crap they put out today, i was in the 11th grade when this came out and dncaed to it at school dances

  • Tight song ... Classic

  • When this song was re-made by Six Pen None the Richer I cahnged the channel every time. Not even close to the original. It just made me weant to hear this classic again.

  • One of the best songs ever by one of the best bands ever... it never gets old.

  • @Balachulish Exactly! It has this timeless quality to it. And the message: "Life is tedious & tragic - but never give up, never stop trying to make it better."

  • @jayatfreelance Here's my final two cents worth on this ditty, if I may...My mentioning believing this song is more relevant today than the year it was released does imho indeed have to do with not giving up (do you think the stakes of giving up are higher today than circa 1988? and that said struggle to hang on on a daily basis feels on the verge of going downright medieval)?

It could also I might add be considered a song about the Apocalypse...ok ciao! done trolling...carry on ; )

  • my god it feels great listening to a song i danced with my young grandkids whow wonderful♥ : D thank you for a wonderful memery :)

  • Sometimes I wish I had been teenager in the 80's just so I could have slow danced to this song at prom.

  • this song takes me back to cruising on a summer night with the windows down and not a care in the world. Oh to be young again...

  • @Dukesfan100 How true my friend I was in my prime in college 20 something years old and not a care in the world. What I would not give to do it just one more time. Sadly that will never happen in truth my memories all the good and bad there still there when I loose those I hope I am gone from this earth. Getting on here and talking to others closer to my age that knew the 80's and listening to music always brings back the very best days of my life and that is worth smiling about.

  • According to the play count, this song has been played 15 times a day since it was uploaded.

  • listening to this song and seeing advertisement for LMFAO in the background makes me want to destroy the internet

  • JUST. FREAKIN. AWESOME.

  • the chorus is pretty much perfect

  • I always thought that this was Elvis Costello. I've always loved this song.

  • this song still matters to people 26 years after it was released. will Nicki Minaj's 'Stupid Hoe' >>>>> (which has 34,136,570 views) matter to anyone in 2038??

  • @makerwidow Lol! Maybe if your're a stupid hoe?

  • @makerwidow lol i don't even know that song or artist, true! i always thought the parade of bullshit would end with beiber and rebeca black but they still make more of them? thank god for youtube keeping these classics around.

  • @akattom

they made a tv commercial for new zealand with this song

  • @makerwidow Yeah it will, Because it'll remind them of being young, But I understand the point you're trying to make, Good music still exists, But it's not promoted now, Thats all

  • @makerwidow The reason this song matters 26 years later imho is because it was actually written for THIS AGE...26 years ago few people recognized it - did these aussie lads realise it themselves (the Christian symbolism in the video suggests they had an idea), I wonder, but Stephen King did, and is why it was used in the TV miniseries 'the Stand' in mid-90's...Now here we are each of us being demanded to make said Stand once and for all - so who is it going to be...?

  • @Silvermine7 Aussies?? Kiwis!!

  • @zsofiakatalin Oops! You're right, that won't do confusing those two...I wasn't aware, sorry about that...but it does make sense somehow (what a bummer to read the comments re: the tragedy that struck these guys in the 90's - wasn't aware of that either).

  • @Silvermine7 Christian symbolism - from that one cross??? Ermm - no.

  • @jayatfreelance I'm sticking to my guns on this one Jay...btw I think there are two crosses and a cut away from somebody kneeling in prayer...Christian music was definitely NOT enjoying much of any real mainstream success in 1987 (outside of Amy Grant perhaps - if that counts)...and even today to get Warner bros. to allow Christian imagery in a secular video would be a hard sell...but it's the lyrics that found my judgment...and I had never even realised until I heard it on the radio last month.

  • @makerwidow I'm sure some dumb kid will say "Wow! This song sure takes me back! Every time someone plays "Stupid Ho", it reminds me of my childhood!"

  • @veelalynne Think about it, times have changed DRAMATICALLY since then, though not so much for the best. It is also MUCH MORE important about the overall conduct of the song's composition and what it truly represents. Why do think that the freak show 'Stupid hoe' is appropriate or beneficial in anyway? Authentically good people will say NO. Unfortunately others like yourself do not see it. Accept the fact that Nicki Minaj's noise (and other's alike) has NO proper meaning behind it.

  • @RJFlashCOM I think you might have misunderstood what I was trying to say. I was being facetious in saying that no matter how bad a song is (in this case "stupid ho") some dumb person will remember it fondly. I actually hate that song.

  • @veelalynne yup, I misunderstood, sorry. That's true, music can 'take you back' regardless of the content. But, I just feel bad for those who don't know the difference from good & appropriate to improper 'crap'.

  • @makerwidow amen!

  • @makerwidow Get off your high horse, douchebag, you don't get to declare what is good music and what isn't it (although I agree with your choice).

  • @makerwidow ahahahaha couldn't have picked a better example!..was just crackin up at that new low the other day :)..its all about image and money, not about the passion and the love for real music from people with actual talent that can play...at least one instrument in their songs.

  • heart touching song

  • hay una version en español, con la misma musica exactamente, pero la letra es en español..alguien se la sabe es como de los 90's a los inicios..help...

  • "There's a battle ahead, many battles lost.." Thumbs up if you discovered on The Stand!

  • I must say something to agapereign. `Chrus Brown beat Rihanna 100 times in the face. THAT is whats wrong with him!

oh, she didnt press charges? Thats whats wrong with her

  • @violetposey I'm not giving Chris Brown a pass. But hell, most of Hollyweird has stories. And if he beat Rihanna 100 times in the face, she would have been FAR worse than she was. Sound like a bit of an exaggeration to me.

The fact that she didn't press charges and the fact that she has two new songs with him says there is more to the story than we know, which FURTHER keeps me out of it. We only know what they report. I take it all with a grain of salt.

  • I'd like to live in the 80's <3

  • great song to help thru a breakup...

  • all crowded house brings me right back to childhood and the long kiwi summer days. wouldnt trade it for the world

  • R.I.P.

  • ....counting the steps to the door of you heart...

  • i'm used to female voice version from Sixpence None The Richer. This is the first time i heard the original one.

  • You know I heard about the passing of their drummer awhile back from aparent sucide which is truly sad who come there was no major coverage over that death but Whitney Houston gets a week of media coverage from her death??

  • @ojmccaf63 Whitney Houston sold 170 million records and stared in 4 or 5 movies. All he did after Crowded House was The Wiggles.

If you want to say RIP to Paul Hester (since you are so concerned, you could at least learn his name), then say it but leave Whitney out of it.

    And then find some business.

  • @agapereign I don't think @ojmccaf63 asked you to reply. He/she can comment whatever, and doesn't need you smartmouthing him/her back!!

  • @mhlbp1 SO WHY ARE YOU TALKING TO ME, TROLL??????? How about you take your own advice, asshat. Now, with that said, so glad you can be all tough behind a keyboard because you wouldn't DARE talk all big and bad to anyone's face.

  • hik-hik-hik...

  • hey now hey now dont dream it's over.ooohhhh....just love the past...;p

  • makes me sick to have to look at that ghetto bastard woman beater chris brown next to the video due to vevo ads while trying to watch real muscians...

  • @zonumb Chris Brown is talented. He is one of the few current artists that can actually sing and his acting isn't bad.

And what makes him ghetto? The fact that he's black? Because I know some trailer trash bastards that beat women, thanks to Cops and 6 years of living in Alabama.

  • @agapereign He's talented, but he isn't an artist.

  • @TheMakinChilli Well, you might have a point there. LOL

  • @agapereign What are you defending mate? A man who beats women? His behaviour puts him in the RUBBISH category. He is no gentleman -- far from it. Talented? Don't make me laugh. Anyone who abuses another being does not deserve admiration or praise of any kind, just the opposite: disdain and repulsion.

  • Love the song and yet I still hate Vevo.

  • I remember this song from The Stand.

  • Reminds me of my teenage heart breaking over and over. Love it still!

  • I avoided this song for more than a decade because it always made me so sad!

  • Great Song. I remember sitting in front of the TV staring at the screen back when MTV aired videos around the clock.

  • Past. Oh past!!!

  • For the Heart of Valentines Day .Thanks

  • 60 People don't like good music.

  • Beautiful song!

  • My GOD it feels GOOD to listen to this music again!! Thank YOU!

  • @RJFlashCOM I grew up listening to this, check out Cause and Effect

  • @RJFlashCOM Aye.

  • The Best Love Song 4ever

  • Essential 80'ies, but aged like fine wine.

  • 80s music sucks, let us just go back to good ol' 60s and 70s classic rock!!

  • @CallMehSam Whos a fag? im thinking you!

  • "My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof". Classic Neil Finn lyrics :D

  • superbe époque

  • @lanroze Moi je trouve c`est une des meilleure chonsons de l`époque

  • To the 60 dislikes out there...... fuck you!!

  • Probably the consummate pop song. Moving, effective and memorable.

  • love this, takes me right back to my young days.

  • This song just stopped me dead in the shopping mall

  • grew up with this song :)

  • @bubbling13 same here

  • American radio stations STILL play this particularly the easy listening or 'oldies' types of stations. It is a timeless gem though.

  • @jrmetmoi The oldies station? Damn im old now...lol

  • I was lucky enough to hear this on KROQ... another landmark anthem of the time.

  • 2 million views, fuck yeah.

  • How can you possibly dislike this song? You'd have to be an attention seeking troll...

  • hey now ..they come to build a wall between us ya know that they wont win...dont dream its over.!!!

  • I can't stop playing that song...

  • Soooo emotional.

  • I'll always remember this being played in The Stand miniseries.

  • Great College mellow song from the mid 80's, when MTV actually played music vids 24/7...NOW, ur lucky to see 6 hours a day in the weee hours of the morning!!! WHAT has happened? REALITY TV at it's UNFINEST!!!<D

  • @onlytheshadowknows7 The 80s were a golden age of music & video. If VH1 had taken over video music it would have been alright. Better groups & better music could have possibly continued. I suppose it had to do with money. Never a thought to the people who bought music but just let it float down until it reached a level that it was cheap & dirty. And that's all that came: cheap & dirty.

  • @purplepimpernel VH1 is now owned by the Kardashians. It's Reality TV 1, not Video Hits 1 anymore.

  • @jrmetmoi Thanks for the info. In any case I gave up on VH1 a long time ago. After 1995 videos were over. I still believe that a well put together format targeting on music & not noise could make a decisive move on american music. Before MTV began their show there was 1 UHF tv station that tried to make it on their own with music tv. There are much more people that want to listen to the real music eras just by using that I believe a tv station would fly. I cite Ted Turner & channel 17 in Atlanta

  • @purplepimpernel I'm surprised people are even bothering with any of that now especially after the internet. Aside from some people's unfortunate and pitiful and meaningless little video blogs, You Tube has been healing all wounds for me.

  • always and will be my number 1 song .....from the first day i listened to it way back in mid 80's to today ........ awesome song ...IMHO

  • Brill

  • EPIC!!!!!!

  • This song always makes me feel nostalgic, which is weird, seeing as that I was born in 1993. :P

  • @missstripedsocks me too!! I love it so much and I was born in 1992!!!

  • Love , love , love this song !!!

  • SOILENT GREEN IS HUMANNNNNNNNN!!!!!! anyone know what im talking about?

  • @mikemarco76 I never watched the movie. As I recalll it was the equivalent of 3 bowls of rice a day.

  • adoro essa musica

  • damn vevo.... why the hell doesn't nzoz upload this clip?

  • This relaxes me so much. I would have to agree with @canlandaswitchflip

  • An idiot called Erick Franchesky took the melody of this song, pseudo-arranged it in Salsa and completely changed the lyrics to his pathetic whim. One's got to hate shit like that. Now lots of people in Latinamerica doesn't know of this original, great version, and consider the Salsa mess as the true one... Horrible. D.R.

  • I wish the chorus of this song played every-time I feel down

  • @SlyRoogon I understand you.. :'(

  • This played at my wedding reception, a surprise from my wife...I choked and had a terrible time holding back the tears. Love this with all my heart.

  • @Vibaboard Formed in Melbourne AUSTRALIA in 1985 by 2 AUSTRALIANS and a New Zealander. Produced 2 World Wide successful albums. In 1991 Another New Zealander Tim Finn joins the band, only to last one year before going back to a solo career. AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI

  • @KRW1612 for your information mate it was a NEW ZEALANDER (Neil Finn from Te Awamutu in Auckland NZ) who is the main man ably assisted by 2 great aussies musos...why do u aussies always try to claim everything?? from Pharlap to Pavolova lol KIWIs RULE!!

  • @CoconutPaddy New Zealand is sinking!!

  • @KRW1612 LMAO yeah probably

  • just heard this on the voice.

  • @MrSugarfree805 The Voice had the "Six Pence None the Richer" cover of it.

  • @MrSugarfree805 Is there a video on yt of it on the voice? I missed it.

  • timeless

  • oh so great. love u rosie

  • Musica Boa

  • Bons tempos esse! Quando se tinha boas musicas e bons conjuntos

  • Nothing like some good 'ole tunes to remind you of back when times weren't so crappy in the world. The good days will hopefully return. I guess, "Don't Dream its Over". :)

  • 80s music cures negativity

  • @canlandaswitchflip

    buena cancion--------------- song amazing

  • whoa... I'm 12 years old again. middle school dance.

  • When I was 4 years old, we had this on vinyl. It was my favorite song. :)

  • I think I'm one of the few teenager's who like this song. Back from when music was good. Who would like Justin Bieber when there's REM, Oasis,.Queen, Simon and Garfunkel... and, of course, the brilliant Crowded House.

  • Totally awesome song. I really like that instrumental intermezzo with the keyboard and later guitar(1:56-2:35).

  • American dad brought me here

  • I consider this one of those great "blue-eyed soul" songs- there's very few great ones around, Whiter Shade of Pale, and maybe I'm only Human come to mind. Of course it HAS to have a real Hammond organ in the refrain, no synth can match that sound.

  • I'm 14 and my dad introduced this band to me about 3 years ago and i'm still listening to it now. This is what i call music!!!

  • "There is freedom within, there is freedom without Johnny Cash's deluge in a paper cup"

  • back when music was music. now it just garbage. RIP music

  • @Quy4life There's still great music being made. But of course it's not mainstream, you have to search and find it :)

  • @sapphire91288 Used to be the other way around. The radio was full of good music and you had to search only for the bad music.
