I just found your page. Thank you for slowing it down for my southern ass. LOL. You are one very fine example of what instructors should be. Thank you.
@martyswartz. Marty i have been watching your video for the past three years and learned more licks from you then you can imagine. plz email me in regards to a bluegrass festival my family runs. It would be an absolute honor to have you. Email me @ jrombs@hotmail.com. All expenses paid.
I don't get why people claim ownership of music, how can anyone claim to own a sound or invent it? It was always there and will always be here, and besides, their only so many chords on a guitar, there is always going to be some overlap among guitarists.
I actually wrote this song, just without the pulloffs, in Standard E, and all played on the B. Also at a slower pace with a different strum pattern, but I wrote it dammit, in the 90's. Now that I think about it, maybe I wrote Wish You Were Here. Either way, someone owes me something.
Hey Marty just a shout out your an amazing teacher and musician thanks for everything, I've only been playing 5 years but with some of the tips, techniques, and songs you have shown me, I am really progressing my music rapidly.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hey Marty, Go to the website Ourstage Dot Com and type in "No Dime" my dad recorded that music in 1996 it is much slower than what you have but the same thing. I'm not sure why you removed my other comment but you need to consider the music. This song was played in a band and recorded in 1996 and called No Dime maybe you came across someone my dad once played with or someone he knew showed it to you but it's not as original as you think Marty.
@fender1016 pure coincidence I'm sure. these are very very common blues techniques that are in a million of songs. It's cool though that your dad and I are influenced by a lot of the same stuff. have you every heard the 12 barre blues? who wrote that?
@guitarjamzdotcom Yea I guess it's all about the same in some kind of way. My father said it always reminded him of the song by Joe Walsh The Confessor. It just depends on how you play it.
@guitarjamzdotcom I'm sure glad that someone else made that up and played it slower and differently. And just for clarification, I wrote the 12 barre blues, you all owe me millions. BTW I also wrote anything with the progression Am, C, G, and F, pay up suckas. Also anything with triplets. I wrote Stairway to heaven, it was just different and Jimmy Page stole it. Unoriginal bastard.
@fender1016 You just never know. My father said when he wrote it the band he played in called it No Dime because they felt like it sounded like No Quarter but my father said it was more like the song by Joe Walsh The Confessor. So I guess as far as the 12 bar blues goes it's all about the same in many ways.
@fender1016 Its a drop D jam you ignoramous. Lots of people do it cause it sounds cool. Know what your talkin bout before you give your two sense.. or two dimes!
thank you very much for the this video lesson! i like this song since i listened to it on your crossroads profile, it's one of my favourites. do you think there'd be any problems if i'll try it on electric? my acoustic doesn't really work great at the moment, it has some stuff with the strings.
Another winner Marty!!!! You were screwed at "Crossroads".Looks like it was a pretty boy contest. Sorry my votes didn't count. Twenty plus thousand votes said you should have won. Keep on giving!
You're the first person who was able to convince me of playing in drop D. Thank you!

I have a question. Instead of dropping the low E to a D could you just mute the low E and just strum the A and D strings?
