When people saw the models they screamed for something different because they were too 'pretty' (catering to furries or something or other).. so they changed the models. The resulting model is worse and has SIGNIFICANTLY less customisation than the original.

I love that Blizzard was initially going to make the female Worgen cute furry wolf girls because players complained that female Trolls and Tauren were ugly in the original version of the game (which resulted in Troll/Tauren females being redesigned to be prettier, making them looking drastically different from the monstrous-looking males), but then decided "Screw that, we're not going for pretty" and made the female Worgen just as grotesque as the males. The water and trees, environment in general, are easy to change, it is the basis of which the game lies upon. It is easy to change them, now for the characters? Plus, the Tauren are based on Native American cultures, and much like many tribal cultures, they had holy warriors and priests, although they drew their power from spirits of nature, not from one worshiped divine being. Also the honor system of a paladin is perfect for the general Tauren personality.
