One of the best in the country. Do not listen to all these ASU haters. They are either bitter because they have failed to attain the grades for admission or they are stuck in some junior college that is nothing more than a blip on a very, very big map. ASU is an excellent institution of higher learning with some of the most advanced degree programs west of the Mississippi. In addition, there are many hot babes around, and that is always a plus!

Well, we should clarify things a bit when calling it "my school." I was a student at U of A, not ASU. I was in the latter sections of my graduate studies. Even then, I was only there for six months. In truth, I do not think you are going to have a problem entering the school as an undergrad. The difficulty in the curriculum is found when you move to graduate studies and to PhD studies. Any simpleton can get into university as a high school grad. Your mettle is tested later as an academic.

In defense of ASU, although I was not a pupil there, it is ranked 29th in the country for their MBA program, which I agree is not saying much, but they make it up in their College of Design (the Fulton College) & the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, which is a great college for writers. Walter Cronkite ranks as one of the most gifted and knowledgeable journalists of the 20th century. Also, ASU Tempe is the second largest research university in the nation, employing some crack researchers.

I cannot admit to knowing what an "STD party" is, and perhaps I do not wish to know, but I would be okay with enrolling there if I had the hellish desire to live in the baking heat of Phoenix, subject to irradiating sun exposure and unrelenting temperatures that often exceed 120 degrees. Yes, ASU has a good architecture program. NDSU in Fargo, ND has a brilliant college of architecture. UNLV has a sick engineering/architecture program. University of Illinois at Urbana in Champaign, IL is probably one of the best in the country. University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is up there in the top five. UC Los Angeles and UC Berkeley (my alma mater) are both in the top five. U of Virginia in Charlottesville and U of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia are top notch. If you have bank, Princeton.

Maybe some of it will be helpful to you in some way. Referencing the undergraduate programs in the 09-10 season, mechanical engineering had 37 grads with a mean GPA of 3.17. Civil engineering had 34 grads with a mean GPA of 3.33. Electrical engineering had 29 grads with a mean GPA of 3.27. Computer engineering...

...had nine grads but no listed GPA data was found. Now, if I switch to graduate school studies, things are mixed up considerably. Civil engineering had 23 grads with a mean GPA of 3.79. Materials & nuclear engineering had only two grads and no GPA data was listed. Now if the engineering department sucks as you say, it could explain the high GPA from an easy curriculum...

...I were to give you any advice, it would have to be generic. Once you are done with undergraduate studies, stay at your university and pursue your graduate degree. As someone who has moved from university to university through my life, the one big thing I regret was not sticking with one university, undergrad to Ph.D. It would have made my life a lot easier, and once you are in the door, you develop relationships with important people in the program, opening all sorts of doors for yourself.

Now if it were an issue of moving to another school because you are going to an Ivy League or plan to go abroad, I would justify the move. But believe me when I tell you that there is NO substitute for the relationships you develop with professors and administrators by plopping down in a university, staying loyal, and sticking it out. It shows character, and you are going to be much more marketable as a student of ONE university than you would be of many institutions. Trust me. I live academia.
