I saw this thing at Darling Harbour in Sydney once, and found it amazing that it was able to fly itself from place to place unlike the US one. Such a shame that it only went into orbit once!
I am very convinced that, without the USSR-collapse and resulting financial problems to the project, the Buran program would have been as much successful and at least as reliable as the US pendant!
Since the Energia Rocket was itself a stand-alone superbooster, it was an inherently more flexible design than STS. With the ability to place 88,000 Kg into a 180 Km orbit at 51.6 degrees inclination on it's own, or 30,000 Kg inside the Buran Cargo Bay to the same orbit. Shame that it's high operating costs, along with the collapse of the USSR killed off every single ambition they had for the design.
Ugly spacecraft. The american space shuttle looks much nicer:) But it still would have been great to have a russian shuttle as well if both sides would still cooperate with the ISS. To bad there never was a manned flight of this
I cannot believe this bad boy had to die for good :( love to see this take off officially.

@sal1520 This track was released about 10 years ago, I believe it to be a Russian group known as PPK and the track was Ressurection.

Who gave the Shuttle design plans to the Soviets?

@oomblikkies If we're going into the world of conspiracy theories - there is a train of thought that says it was the other way round ;)
