I mean so tiny that it almost not there. You don't want new problems. The best thing is that I got this system for FREE. I picked up 2 wired controllers from craigslist for $30. Yes. I've started playing Halo 2 on it. Now how to transfer my settings/progress from the old X-box.Gears of War next.
haha i did this but i used a damped but clean quute tip, just dab it in water and buffered it and then dries the lens with the average kitchen towel,works like new.

stop this movie at 1:28. SEE the small white plastic piece in the center of the video. This is the problem with the laser not returning to the front. If the screw seen in this video in the center of the white plastic piece is screwed too tightly it will cause the piece to move away from the disc and not return. it will click when you try to return it. LOOSEN THAT SCREW!
@woreer9 Open it ans check wires are secure, also use a lil (very little) Windex on a rag and gently wipe lens. That WILL fix it. I fix broken xbox's i should know, just saying. =)
wow my xbox was bad made i have only had it for 6 months and when i bought it the disk tray bumped when ejecting so it eventually became unreadable so i opend my xbox and there was human hair inside and the lens was dirty. and the pullers where filled with muck i cleand all of it works amazing.

@XxIcebound5000xX Well i have asked the support line but it seems they only give you the standard answers, a list of things to troubleshoot. I have found a temporary solution, that is to install the game into the hard drive.

Btw: Some of that scum you mentioned on the runners is lubricant which actually helps your laser to move up and down. I just removed the dirt and hairs stuck to the runners and spread the rest of the lubricant across the runners again as it had gathered at one end. Then hoovered the whole console out. If you start to hear any squeeking whilst it's reading games I'd open yours back up and grease you runners again. Should last you longer that way ;)
Nice one for this mate! Did it and my xbox which wouldn't read any discs anymore including DVD's now loads everything first time! It even loads games that I though were broke because my other games still laoded for a while. Good as new. You saved me at least £50 in repairs but maybe £120 as I was maybe gonna replace it. I got a problem with my xbox 360 with an Hiartachi Drive in it..THE BOX DO NOT READ ANY TYE OF DISC, I not iced that it do not actually spin the cd at all. .I marked the CD'S location on the cd to make sure of when i put it in the drive and when i popped it out ,i noticed it never even moved (zero) it was in the same position as i placed it . I'm not too sure if this is a common problem but, does anybody else have issues with the sound when they use a hdmi cable? it will go from perfect game play to sounding like a disk is skipping, the game will play fine and after 15 minutes or so it fixes itself, and no it's not the disk because if I turn the channel and turn it back, it fixes it also, so idk, it's some weird issue with it.

If you can't read the disk to play it, you probably won't be able to write it to your HDD either.
Best options are to open up the Xbox 360, try and fix the DVD drive, and if this fails, simply order a replacement drive for $30-$50. Beats buying a new console.
this works if motor is spinning. I use bakeingsoda toothpaste and Q tips but had to do it twice , seems fine but still not back together going to give it a week

Good find, I used Meguiers cleaner polish instead of the mirror glaze and it worked well. Also, after cleaning everything with 70% isopropyl, I used White Lightning wax bicycle chain lube for all the moving parts, (rails). This is a wax based lube and repels dirt build up. Also, I had the intercooler on the rear as a cooling aid, and feel like all this did was pull in dirt and dust. not recommended. Thanks for the post.
Yo man saw your vid last night, been having this 'pleaase insert into 360' problem for ages now. Took the 360 to bits today and used your tips n presto game booted up first time no problem. I didnt have any the cleaning stuff you did, so i used a little bit 'Flash-All in one multi-surface cleaner' on a contton bud, buffed it up, including the drive runners and its perfect haha.
So now bill gates' service team know EXACTLY what to do with the 70 pound repair charge...

The problem is on inside optical parts that they are dirty,
and you can not get access to it.
Use clean air to clean inside optical system first and then cotton stick
and some alchohol, but also alchohol is not recomended for cleaning lens.

load your games onto the hardrive. yes it takes a lot of space but it will save the motor and you wont get laser burn or tray scratch.

I have got problems with editor on xbox 360. the far cry 2 run on it but if i enter editor it just say the disc is unreadable. HELP ME!!!

I'm not too sure if this is a common problem but, does anybody else have issues with the sound when they use a hdmi cable? it will go from perfect game play to sounding like a disk is skipping, the game will play fine and after 15 minutes or so it fixes itself, and no it's not the disk because if I turn the channel and turn it back, it fixes it also, so idk, it's some weird issue with it.

my cod4 got rings on it...theres nothing u can do other then to go to gamestop and buy like a used one or sumthing...i found this out by going to gamestop and asking if they could clean the disk which i had done b4 with disk cleaner but...they said once the disk gets rings on the outside rim ur screwd, sorry...i feel ur pain

Dude u moved ur xbox while the disk was in it. U can't clean it off unless u get one of those disk scratch removers that shave down ur disk

If you can't read the disk to play it, you probably won't be able to write it to your HDD either.
Best options are to open up the Xbox 360, try and fix the DVD drive, and if this fails, simply order a replacement drive for $30-$50. Beats buying a new console.

this works if motor is spinning. I use bakeingsoda toothpaste and Q tips but had to do it twice , seems fine but still not back together going to give it a week

That's funny I Googled and found them to be from $220 - $400. Blue Ray players cost almost the same amount. I guess if you need a hobby fixing pieces of shit, then yeah you should have an xbox.

@Cheezeball99999 Halo is not that great i have them all on my flashed xbox 360 i still prefer my ps3 it has a more powerful cpu better gfx fullscreen antialiasing faster loading times runs more silently does not break down like an xbox360 does over time and mass effect 2 demo is now available on ps3 network it will just be a question before halo is to if ur a faggy fanboy.

Yeah that happend to me on black friday i just came back from buying Street Fighter IV and i was all exicited and i put it in and it said play dvd and iwas like WTF?! so i returned the game and got another one and guess what it worked! So maybe its just the game that makes it say that. -_-

Good find, I used Meguiers cleaner polish instead of the mirror glaze and it worked well. Also, after cleaning everything with 70% isopropyl, I used White Lightning wax bicycle chain lube for all the moving parts, (rails). This is a wax based lube and repels dirt build up. Also, I had the intercooler on the rear as a cooling aid, and feel like all this did was pull in dirt and dust. not recommended. Thanks for the post.

Yo man saw your vid last night, been having this 'pleaase insert into 360' problem for ages now. Took the 360 to bits today and used your tips n presto game booted up first time no problem. I didnt have any the cleaning stuff you did, so i used a little bit 'Flash-All in one multi-surface cleaner' on a contton bud, buffed it up, including the drive runners and its perfect haha.
So now bill gates' service team know EXACTLY what to do with the 70 pound repair charge...
