@11tobiobito you still don't get it. Think about how many collegiate 400m guys can run 45. Bolt is nothing special in the 400m. He uses his speed to get him that far but he doesn't have the strength to improve past that in the 400. Bolt won't ever come close to a 400m record.

Bolt's tall and lengthly stature is not favorable for him to accel at the 400. (and he's not continuing doing the 400. he hasn't trained or run the 400 in years)

@11tobiobito It's just drastically different energy systems and adaptations in the body (for elite athletes like them). I'm not saying Usain couldn't do it, but there's almost no way he would be able to maintain his reign in the 100m while beating MJ's record. 400m is right on the cusp of mostly relying on the anaerobic glycolytic system with some ATP-CPT and aerobic contributions, while the 100m is all ATP-CPT. He would have to acquire new adaptations while giving up some of his current ones.

yeah I agree completely, not the same as a 43 open 400m, but still very impressive, maybe the most impressive 400m by anybody in this early season. To do it this early in the season when he is training for the 100/200m is crazy, there aren't many 400m specialists capable of a 43 relay split in february. Over the course of a season you can look at .75 sec drop easy, and that is just with the training he is doing. With 400m training which is VERY different I can only say I would be curious??

Marita Koch was part of the East Germany government drug program and Flo Jo was long suspected of steroids and her actions very much suggested it. The ladies 100/200/400m are very difficult. Sandra Richards is dominant today and she's a second off the pace!!!

P.S. Bolt just ran a 43.5 split and looked good doing it. Being able to "jog" a 21 split for 400m is such a huge advantage.
