The man who hires him has to think up something quick, so he finds the wig and dress in the back. That's why Francis looks so uncomfortable- he was forced to do it for the money.
i love this film so much, but the one thing that got me was the lack of continuity at 1:39, dropped scarf then the next second its back in a different frame- its still wonderful though!

He is not a drag act, he is forced to go on he is. Francis Fryer the ACTOR. I have to play him in my drama group's production :)
