To me, Jean Arthur was the top female screw ball comedienne....followed by Myrna Loy, Carole Lombard, Ginger Rogers, Irene Dunne, Katharine Hepburn...and of course Claudette Colbert. But Arther was the one, without which, the whole genre could not be imagined. She had the heart and soul of a great comedienne...the right looks...and body language...and her voice has been described as "the sound of a hundred bells ringing".
Beautiful photos...I think that Gladys Greene had exception taste in heroes too. Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc) & King Arthur. It's too bad that she suffered from extreme stage fright, often getting sick prior to going on stage. Otherwise, she might have won more roles. ★★★★★
Another winner! Beautiful pictures. I've always adored Jean Arthur. It's a shame she's not better known today, but she was very 'Un-Movie Star Like', Always reclusive and often hostile towards the press. She did leave us with a treaure-trove of great films though. thanks.
Thanks for the info Laura. The pictures were collected over a long period of time from many sources including books. I try to use only the best quality images for my videos and I spend a lot of time on image restoration. I think Ms. Arthur was worth it!
I'm collecting her movies. You can wikipedia them but here's the ones easiest to find. and probably the best of her work. You might want to read her biography by john oller too. It's great. I'm a Jean Finatic
Must not forget her in shane, her repressed and understated feelings for shane were fantastic, wish i could have her round for a cup of tea, mind you she loved a good drink too,the more the merrier i suppose lol
oh I almost forgot that one.Oh i know. I'd love to talk to her, it would be the chance of a lifetime. she's on the TOP of my list of people who are dead i want to talk to if there is a heaven. I love the quote (can't remember it exactly) but i think it was " I couldn't be a nun because i smoke and do enjoy a good drink." I like her more as calamity Jane. in that she got to be very outspoken but she could instantly portrail her volnerability.
3:42- Is that Neil Hamilton...Commissioner Gordon from the 1966 Batman TV series?

I love that Jean Arthur didnt want to share her life with the press. As long as there are great tributes to her, she will always be remembered.
