from 0:36 to :47 the pilot was definitely a quick thinker. He shut his engine down just before he groundlooped and saved his engine and possibly the propellor too.
Oh yeah, now this is great!! Thanks to the user who steered me here. I like this much better than the music video, really gives a feel for being there, lets one be a vicarious participant. Excellent, well done!
Brilliant video - in many ways better than your Airventure 2009 vid (although that is fantastic aswell) as it really captures what it's like to be there.
A green dot painted on the runway. There is a pink one as well on that runway. They're used as alternating aiming points so more airplanes/hour can land.
I believe it ground looped, but as you can see in the video I was sitting down and didn't actually capture the entire event. It did get up on the nose though.
According to the NTSB/FAA, The RV ground looped because he had a rudder pedal failure. There was a service bulletin issued by Van's quite a while back about this issue (viewable in PDF on their website). It is not yet clear if this airplane had complied with this service bulletin. I'm sure the NTSB final report will tell us. The service bulletin involves welding reinforcing gussets to the rudder bars. Newer RV kits (such as my -7) already come with beefed up rudder bars.
The planes from 1:20-1:33 or so are from the group that I camp with!?
If you continued down the row of taxing planes, right after the blue rv there should have been a cessna 182 with tan and blue strips and british royal air force symbols on the wings and tail. THATS US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahhahaha. If you post the remainder of that vidoe, I would really appreciate it! :)
do you just pull up a lawn chair and start rolling? that's what i'm looking forward to most is just sitting and watching landings

Thanks a lot! Yup, you hit the nail on the head. It was intended to give you a sense of the goings on at Airventure!

What is that green thing that makes the planes give it that green tint?

Because there are so many aircrafts landing at the same time, they split the runway (on the length) and paint colored numbers.
When you get clearace to land, you're "cleared to land on runway xx on the PINK DOT"...

Cool, thanks for the comment! I will try to fit it into the next one...I actually have your aircraft in two Bonanza shots.
If anyone else thinks their aircraft may be in some of the footage that was cropped, let me know and I will look.
