i managed to pitchpole a hobie 16 going upwind, on camera... didnt really know that it was possible... and the girl who was crewing for me broke her foot during the pitchpole, take a look, its the first video i uploaded
nah tigers have banana hull too like a normal hobie 16, its probably an F16 or 18 made buy Hobie because it has center boards, as all the big brands (nacra ect... make a boat to fit the those classes :)
I wonder if the helmsman kept his eyes open at the point of takeoff because it happens so quickly the brain might not have taken in what was happening. Great footage. Thanks
My favorite pitch pole of all times, is when we went over a huge wake from a hundred footer. We hit the hard water from the props a good fifty yards from the cruiser which was going very fast. The energy from that wake slammed us over, but not before we got in some pretty good manuvers to save ourselves. Pretty spectacular, I thought the cruiser would come around, but they just kept going after destroying us, ha ha.
We've pitched over more times than I can count with our Hobie 18SX. My moto is "if we haven't broken something then we did not have any fun". I always carry some emergency repair stuff. 20+ knots of wind make for a wild time.
This happened to my daughter and me on a Hobie 16 off Isla Mujer when we were in Cancun. The mast and sail went deep 6 and I had to dive for the halyard and bring the sail up to windward in order to right the boat.
They should of done the full rotation, end over end forward loop, call them sailors? I do them all the time, one in the middle of the Pacific on a Formula 60 doing 40knots and pulled it of. I will post the video soon.
that was planned, these guys are the nissan hobie display team, lol the best hobie sailors there are and to nose dive like tht well, its not gna happen, also they wer both to far foreward in winds like that.
