Hey Jay, Lamborghini STILL doesn't have a double-clutch gearbox. They've been hammering away at the single-clutch system, and have gotten it down fairly well. Not as smooth as a DCT, but much lighter.

I would take the 1938 any day over the New 2012. As i bought the new 2012 and have had nothing but trouble. The worst mistake i ever made. It has been back to the dealership 4 times. the last time for 10 days with electrical and window problems. had it back for 8 hours and the window fell completell down couldn't even put it up. Dealership and customer service all say the same thing 'Its new, we dont know what to do' but they dont mind keeping it while i keep paying for something i can't drive.

@jeffhanson1 Dude, you are mis-quoting Jay about the 2.0 liter with 115hp from the previous generation (Mark IV, 1998-05) Beetle, this one here in the 2012 (Mark VI, 2012-) IS a TURBOCHARGED 2.0 liter with 200hp in it and even without the turbo, the base 2.0 in this one is much different than the one VW used in the 1998-05 Beetle, so he WAS right on the engine specs.

what vw needs is a fuel efficient every day driver 4 cylinder not the 2.5 5 cylinder they have. i mean come on in todays world a beetle should get close to 40 mpg withought diesel. but if they did come out with a modern 4 cylinder than it would affect the sales of the tdi. the new civic gets 28 39 or up to 41 on the hf model. the 2.5 beetle gets 23 31. a camry v6 gets 21 city 30 highway. from a 3.5 v6. the peoples car is supposed to be fuel efficent

New cars like the Beetle here, can never be the same as 30's or 50's cars, and its a good thing!!! They were not as safe as modern cars, airbags, ABS, traction control, safety cell, and so on, are all welcomed aditions, especially if you have your daughter in the car.

BTW. I dont think Jay sold himself. Jay is a car lover, he loves all cars. Even the ugly ones, have something endearing.

WOW! What a terrific car Jay! I use to drive my Dad's old gold Beetle to High School just a flying with loud music playing and windows down. I don't know if it was my blonde hair or my cute Beetle, but people would toot and wave at me flying down the road. I even had someone offer to buy it from me in the parking lot. Well, the sad part is my Dad backed the Beetle out of our driveway into our apple tree and that was the end of my fun and the life of the Beetle!

Hey Jay, speaking of double clutch, remember that in 1938 they did not install 'syncro' in the gearboxes, so at 0:39 in the clip, you need to double clutch to avoid the gears crashing like that mate!! Fun video!
