It has to do with the game. It appears a second in the game is a tad slower than a second in reality. So the game appears to go for longer. It shows a 2 minute countdown but in reality its more than 2 minutes.

a second in the game is 60 frams with a graphics intensive game you get some lag meaning that 60 fames is really more like 1.1 seconds...

A starslide is when you 'ride' like a tailslide on the starlines found in space to boost you further up into space.
