  • I have the 60's too. Wearing Grado's out in public is unspeakably cool.

  • this or akg k420?

  • @jollomi AKG K420 if you want to go with AKG. I have both.

  • "so, yeah, they look like a pair of headphones"

    they are... :D

  • It's "grey-doh", not "grotto".

  • Do they leak mutch sound??

  • @Josper128 Yes, a lot.

  • @Josper128 Yes, they have an open design.

  • Hey, I like DJing out a little bit *wikiwikiwiki*. I have a huge noggin. And I definitely don't need to look good for the ladies. Thank you, Drake Bell, for recommending these headphones.

  • your huge noggin :D

  • ...funny too.

  • Good review...

  • try (carefully) unbending the headband if they are too tight :)

  • they look beautiful, this retro look is great. I don't want colored led lights leaking out of a headphone while I use it, that's for kids and posers

  • @xxPwNexx not sure if trolling or fucking retarded

  • @lofiveghost He could also be sarcastic, maybe? I can hope D:

  • @xxPwNexx Troll detected

  • why so many dislikes, is this a bad pair of headphones or smthing??

  • Seeing all these comments with people asking if they should buy Beats or these... The most important thing that he missed is that these are open back headphones. The leak a ton of sound and do not isolate at all. These are not on the bus headphones.

To answer the other part- Don't buy beats.

There are MUCH better headphones out there for the money. If all you want is bass, buy Sony XB500 or XB700 as @s10096209 suggested.

If you actually care about sound, do some research first.

  • @Ovlazek Hi!I

'm looking for closed earphones for a while now, and I don't want the bass... but I can't find any good, cos some people say good one , some say bad. so, in your oppinion witch are good?

here are some of my choices:

    GRADO SR 60i,

    SENNHEISER HD 212 pro

    Creative Labs AURVANA LIVE

I want to listen them with mp3 player (sansa) or phone or pc. and I'm listening soft rock, a lot of piano music so I really don't want the bass.

    could you sugest something?

    kind regards!

  • @fraglespb well... depending on ur buget... i recomand u the marshall headphones... they are expansive but the look rlly cool and the sound quallity is the best in my opinion...

  • @fraglespb HD 212 Are pure bass headphones. Do not get them. The Grado SR 60i are open headphones. I've never even hard of the aurvanas, so I can't recommend that either. The best possible suggestion is the HD 448s They have amazing treble, are less then the Grados, and fit your style of music perfectly.

  • Please stop saying "noggin"

  • This guy is so funny!!!

  • I love the design... They're classic and understated.

Fuck that whack skullcandy shit, it's tacky and cheap looking + they sound like shit.

  • PLEASE !!! never say ever again "badboys"... that's just ... you're not THAT cool ...

  • One question. Would you rather have the Dr Dre Beats Solo or Grado SR60i based on sound and bass?

  • @Rockthemat SR60i aren't bass heavy phones. The thump, but they don't reach low. Some say the Beats have bad sub-bass. If you want bass, get the XB700/500.

  • @Rockthemat people are so stupid. the beats have bad bass. in every single headphone they make everything ends up sounding muddy because of the overpowering bass. beats are all made of plastic because they are fucking shit except for the pros which are bad as well.

  • HEYY!!!!!!!....... your cute

  • fucking idiot, they look amazing

  • If that kit was sent a review unit I might be able to convince Grado to send me fifty! :P

  • you're a pretty douchy guy.

  • same quality as beats solo headphones

  • these or igrado's for the ipod? obviously the igrado's are made for the ipod but which ones truly sound better on the ipod?

  • @shox5555 the sr60i for sure. not as portable as the iGrado, but not nonportable. the sr60i also has a low impedance so it's it'll sound great if you run it direct from your pod.

  • Try the Koss porta pro! I sold my 140$ sennheisers because these sounded better... And for only 25$ or so they really are the most bang for the buck out there!

Only con, they tend to break easily.

  • You look like Fred in the preview image.

  • lopsided noggin

  • I've just bought these a few days ago. The first thing that striked me was the clarity of the sound : everything is so clean with these Grados, especially vocals. Well recorded vocals sounds like if they were next to me, in a very natural way. I love the way the highs sparkle too. This gives life to classical music. Now for the bass, these Grados deliver just the right amount and quality of bass for me. They are not spectacular on bass, but natural and accurate instead.

  • you didn't talk about the sound leakage due to the open back design. Thats what i was hoping to get from this review. thank you

  • what about sound leakage

  • I had the grado sr60 years ago...they sounded great, but the left side blew up after just a few days (and I listen to music at low levels)...Im not that confident with Grado anymore...and the pictures of the factory tour where they make these headphones are just depressing

  • Do you need an adapter to use with a laptop/iPod?

  • How can I take your review seriously, when you think $~5 pair of Earbuds/headsets are fine? No wonder he doesn't even have his tech site anymore... and yes it's SR80i at least try to learn the models..

  • dude, im a DJ, would these be good for DJing parties?

  • @jdd123654 i dj also, not worth getting for djing. i tried (from a friend of mine) with my djm 800, there pretty poor for djing, i would go with hdj's 1000 or 2000's or sony mdr v700's

  • is it pronounced "gr-ah-do' or 'gray-do'?

  • @kevin11354 Gray-do

  • @kevin11354 i'm pretty sure grahdo.

  • how did they send you it??

  • @ChannelWithoutName Agreed. The pre-"i" models were prettier but they're very tasteful

...so long as you don't look too closely. The vinyl headband is quite crummy (if you shave your head, expect to get scratched) and the plastic joints connecting the headband to the antenna can have a bit of dried glue visible on the edges. I also have the problem with my SR80s where the cut of the foam differs between the L/R cans slightly, which looks bad and effects the acoustics and bass response.

  • Hi, does this headphone's any good when listening to hardcore songs?

    please reply =)

  • « they look like a pair of head phones » hahahahaha:P

  • fuckin jew

  • @mykoalaz Stfu.

  • Noggin really!!??

    Fag!!!

  • im sorry i know nothing about headphones. how do these compare to beats? and how are they for noice cancelling

  • @rocketballa4life I have never owned a pair myself but I've tried both, and from what I know, these are better than the Beats in terms of sound quality, and neither are very good for noise-canceling. Also, both leak a fair amount of sound.

  • I hear these are amazing for metal. I am considering these.

  • @lil0egy0kid They're alright for metal, I mainly use these and some Sennheiser HD-555s for metal.

  • you shouldn't have tried to make dj sounds... goodness.. and a... 'fully adjustable... i don't know?' i can't believe grado sent you a pair to review.

    loser

  • You wouldn't want to show them off to the ladies? They're way more beautiful than fricken skullcandies, even better than Beats by dr dre in my opinion.

  • yooo i got a per to day lol i dont think their that bassy but the rest is ace and thier is one problem is that you can wheir the in publeic but other people can here what your hearing >.< but thier good and i got my for £65

  • yooo i got a per to day lol i dont think their that bassy but the rest is ace and thier is one problem is that you can wheir the in publeic but other people can here what your hearing >.< but thier good

  • Sony MDR-V6 or the Grado SR60i??

  • are these really worth $80? i was planning on buying them but i can't imagine using them for much besides my iPod, which apparently doesn't work with them

  • @skibladebikechill42

it's not that your iPod won't work with them, it's just portable devices aren't designed to output high quality sound, so you still won't get the best use out of them. Tbh, I think it would be pretty ridiculous to splash out on these just for sitting on the bus listening to your portable device or whatever. I bought these a few weeks ago in an audio equipment shop, as I study Audio Production at uni, and these are great for picking out sounds, but I wouldn't use for iPods

  • just ordered these. sooo stoked, can't wait until they get here!

  • im looking for some good headphones. i mainley use them for pc but on occasions i do use my ipod with them, would these still be okay for my ipod even if a rareley use them for it?

  • i was watching and listening to this review with my grado SR60i

  • it's pronounced graydo, lol.

  • well spoken. great review

  • keep it user friendly

  • cool review, do they leak sound?

  • Get a shock mount if you're planning on slamming your elbow on the table some more.

  • You call yourself an audiophile who loves high quality music but you wont splurge 60 or so bucks on decent headphones? I bid you good day sir.

  • @noyan000 GOOD POINT

  • @noyan000 well said...

  • @noyan000 I think this calls for v moda crossfades HAHAHA

  • @noyan000 The Sr60's aren't a "good quality for the cash" set of headphones, they are a incredibly good set of headphones well worth the audiophile title.

  • @ShiiComp that may be true but he didnt want to pay 60 bucks for them

  • @Narcis005

    damn ugly comment.

  • I was getting headaches from the band... which i found very uncomfortable.

So I cut a strip of foam from the packaging in which it came, and stuck it with tape onto the head band. Just a thought if your having comfort problems with the head band.

  • I love the looks of these, but then again, I loved the way the koss portapro looked.

  • Ffwtech, I hate sounding patronizing, but you have long way to learn what it means a great sound. Having nice headphones to experience true beauty of sound is not enough, not enough. But don't worry, get healthy, collect some money, and buy really nice quality CD records, or even better high quality vinyl records (if you have turntable) and you will never come back to your present statement about good sound ever again. But remember, it take time to realize that. So, there is no rush.

  • Dont they leak alot?

Great review too. I'm definitely a "poor audiophile" too.

Do you think I shud get these over Sr80i's?

  • @UnufcE

I've tried it alot by now, compared to my senns, they actually do sound better on certain songs, and sound better in intial listening. But I can't listen for long because my ears hurt afterward, they are a little bright for my tastes to the point I have to turn the volume down a significant degree.

  • I am planning on getting the SENNHEISER HD 280 PRO speakers for listening to music. Would you recommend them or these? The 280 PRO cost $100 so yeah...

  • wtf ? 8 bucks on amazon ? they cost LOTS of money down here in germany x,x

  • can i just use them all the time on my pc like instead of speakers?

  • They are recommended by Consumer Reports as "best buy" although the SR80i are rated the better of the two.

If thou hast the budget, go for the SR80i.

  • @amazingdany They actually don't sound much better. The SR60i is the way to go.

  • @rockgod2131 Probably. I have the SR60 as I write this, I don't have a good ear at all.

I dunno nothing about audio so I gotta check the good ol' CR, they never failed me so far.

  • will this still be good with games?

  • ur hot

  • I could care less how ugly these headphones look. If they sound as good as you say then I'll take it with me everywhere to listen to my music....how long is the freaking cord?

  • @EarOrgasms The cord is about 2-2.5 metres long.

I've had these for like a week now and they are proving to be as the reviews say...they sound fantastic. My iTouch can drive these loudly but I will be buying an amp to get the most out of the cans.

I've compared these to my uncle's HD650's from the same source, in respects of quality the Grado's were pretty much on par through all ranges and very neutral too...albiet lacking soundstage over the HD650s but they cost 3 times the price.

  • @spacedskunk how has been your experience with them while you're on the go?

  • @EarOrgasms I haven't used them on the go unfortunately...I have some Sennheiser CX300IIs for that to be honest.

There's just 2 things stopping me using them on the go (and no looks isn't one of them)...firstly they are open ear cans, and they leak sound badly and also the cord is very thick which is excellent for home use but not the best for walking about with.

That said, if you can deal with that then I can't see anything overly wrong with using them on the go.

  • @spaceskunk alright thanks

  • some guy is selling me a used pair of SR80i for the smae price of a SR60i is it worth it should I get it?

  • If you have some sort of headphone amp, better than the one in like an iPod or something like that, then yes.

  • What is rather fustrating is these headphones retail at around $80 yet are around £80 here, which is like $110. Anyway I've ordered a pair, should be here tomorrow! Really excited :d

  • @spacedskunk u can buy the Alessandro MS1 which are based on grados, and they cost 100$ from their website.

  • i've ordered the sr-60i as a gift for a friend, because I am curious to see how it compares to my sennheiser 497's, originally I would have ordered the eh350 instead.

I'm sure they are great, but I notice disadvantages compared to my 497's ex: lack of cushioning at the top of the head band. lack of modularity, most important one being removable cables. I've had my 497's for seven years of harsh treatment and had to replace cables six times! I doubt grados could stand up to such abuse.

  • funny, i JUST bought these for my bday :) can't wait to plug them into my marantz and see what comes out!! [that's what she said]

  • "Cough Medicine.. What..." absolute joker ^^, wish i had money for some new Headphones "(

  • they dont look bad either

  • lmao great review, I'm a broke audiophile too... I just ordered a pair of SR80i though so I'm excited

  • great review, very helpful. just order one

  • Very entertaining review!! -

and easily believable..! - Okay - i am for sure in the market for new headphones - you've been delightful..~~! I know what I'm getting, now....

  • great review.

    thanks.

  • With Grado from the SR60 and up you get what you pay for, alot of value for the money. I have all the models from the SR60 all the way to the majestic sounding PS1000...

Grado sound quality is proven, the design simplistic ...the sound quality from very good(SR60/80) to reference class (RS1 to PS1000).

  • if i use them on the tube with medium volume will the disturb others around me.

  • this guy is pretty damn funny

  • hey man. great review. Just out of curiosity, any idea how it sounds with metal? and would these headphones need a outside power resource when listening to mp3 player, ipod, etc. thanks for your help.

  • No need outside power resource, with just the iPod it's fine. Grado's are the best for rock/metal, but the GS1000 model is the only headphones from Grado that have different sound from the others, they are better for Classic, Jazz, etc.. Possibly the best period is the RS1i.

  • thanks mate

  • Yes, ffwtech, please answer ^his^ question... there is a guy on YouTube who said that these earcups needed more power than usual from a portable mp3 player... breaking the audio quality if not amplified. Is it true, (he was talking about the SR80, you have the SR60i).

  • I don't think SR80's need an amp, it sounds probably better but I think they sound quite good without it, I really like them, also volume is not an issue...

  • Thanks... I would like these to be my next pair of headphones.

  • sr80i or sennheiser HD 25 ?

  • I have never used the sennheisers so I really can't compare, but I do know that Grado would not disappoint.

  • @ffwtech Hello i just purchased some SR125i s and need to know whether i need a headphone amp to use them with a portable device?

  • @hiphopapotomas You don't 'need' one but if you really want to get the most out of these cans, you'll want one. The 60-125 range are designed with more general use in-mind (hence their use of 3.5mm plugs) but they still sound worlds better when properly amped by a portable amp, or a receiver.

  • @hellobooom sr80 definetly

  • @hellobooom i've owned the hd 25's and they're great... but can hurt your ears a bit becuase they're on ear.. and the sound seems kinda flat.. also no "sound stage"(sounds in your head instead of around..) becuase they're closed but they're still awsome no doubt, i dont know about the sr80i.. but i just ordered a pair of alessandro ms-1i's.. which are supposed to be improved sr80i's for $110 and free shipping, ultimately it will come down to weather you want open or closed phones

  • @hellobooom i've owned the hd 25's and they're great... but can hurt your ears a bit becuase they're on ear.. and the sound seems kinda flat.. also no "sound stage"(sounds in your head instead of around..) becuase they're closed but they're still awsome no doubt, i dont know about the sr80i.. but i just ordered a pair of alessandro ms-1i's.. which are supposed to be improved sr80i's(neutral'er) for $110 and free shipping, ultimately it will come down to whether you want open or closed phones

  • @hellobooom I'm sure that you know more about headphones by now but these two cans are completely different. HD 25s need an amp and are closed cans where as the SR60i is an open back set that don't really benefit from an amp.

Plus, the sound presentation is completely different. The Grado sound is more agressive with the highs and mids, where as the HD25 is very flat because they're studio monitors.

  • are these good with electronic music? for dj?

  • The electronic music should play just fine on these.

  • @ffwtech probably not down your ally, but how do you think they would sound with games or movie? gunshots and explosions and shit

  • @leonel1990 They are fantastic headphones but they are geared around rock music and lack a little in bass. So you may want to go with something else if you only listen to electronic music - otherwise go 80i.

  • Do they work well with iPods? I heard it's not recommended if you're only gonna use it for iPods since they can't really bring out the full potential of the Grado's.

  • eh. they're alright. but I wouldn't recommend using these for any portable device.

  • @ffwtech Why wouldnt you use them for mobile devices?

  • @MarkAM1994 Grado models from sr125 upwards are designed for an amp and is not reccomended for portable device. Sr 60 is made for portable devices

  • Mods make them pretty awesome too. HD414 pads, Quarter mod, j$ headband, and woodied. =D

  • Good review, but you forgot to comment on one critical point - How much power is required to drive the SR60's?. Can you drive them with your IPod. You should not attempt to drive the SR80's from your IPod. Than can not push the phones.

  • @Bench270x Quite wrong. The SR60 can easily be driven with an iPod loudly. The sensitivity is good, and has a low impedance. Go use Google.

  • All Grado's are 32 ohm. They are easy to drive with the iPod. Another point is that the higher model they are, the better they sound with a dedicated headphone amps, good sources, etc.

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of audience? r they urs now? u get to keep them?

    btw nice review :)

  • You just have to have enough people listening to your opinion that the company feels that they can make a few more sales. And yes in this case I got to keep the headphones, but thats not always the case.

  • hey! how did u get grados to send u a review unit? plz answer

  • you have to contact or be contacted by grado to review them. you have to have an audience first though. i used my site to leverage my chances of getting them

  • Should I get these or Skullcandy Skullcrushers??

  • GRADO OFCOURSE.. are you kidding? skullcandy and skullcrushers are extremely poor quality

  • You're a goddamn fool. Get the Grados.

  • I'd go with Grado. But I think you've already gotten your response...

  • Haha thanks. Lucky for me, though, I found my Sennheiser PX 100's, so I'll use those for awhile.

    Thanks again for the response.

  • I heard that they are really loud to ppl around u, is this true?

I will use these in the library and train, will these be to distracting?

  • I have the same query....do they leak music a lot?

that's the only thing stopping me from getting one of these.

    btw nice review!

  • These headphones don't have any noise cancelling. So that also applies to the sound leaving the headphones. I wouldn't wear these in a library if you catch my drift.

  • That sucks. In reference to my situation that sucks I mean.

  • is it comfortable on ears? please reply... =)

  • They could be more comfortable. But I wouldn't say they are uncomfortable. They are very basic on the comfort and look side of things and purely performance.

  • I'vs hade my SR80i's for a month and a bit, and they rock! I had the cable twist problem, but I just "spin" the headphones around before I put them on and the twist goes away. Anything by Grado Labs is a winner. They just came out with Grado earbuds too, so check those out if you want something for public use.

  • Yeah I have been trying to get my hands on the new GR8 earbuds but they are a little pricey. So far Grado has impressed me.

  • Cable twist kind of sucks :(. My cable split at the y-split.

  • I could really see that becoming a problem if you dont take good care of your headphones. Shorting them out is not a fun thing to do.

  • Great review, very helpful !

  • very informative, thanks

  • Great review, thanks!

  • Sure thing man, thanks for the comment
