  • The British are masters of chassis/suspension engineering, but for the love of God, keep them away from electronics!

  • Guilford just doesn't have the same ring to it as Modena

  • Formula 1 nowadays is dominated by German drivers, a point that is lost on the cars though. Ok., Mercedes iand BMW are enginer suppliers to some teams, Mercedes GP thoubh is also located in England. And even the Red Bulls are supplied by - which is even worse - by French engines. Yuck !!

  • I WANT WILLIAMS TO DOMINATE FORMULA 1 AGAIN !!!

  • I totally agree with Jeremy. Great Britian is the hearth of the motorsport.

  • 'with the exception of Minardi, who don't really count'

    Ah, Clarkson.

  • why does this bbc coverage have an advert on it? thats illegal, I paid my tv licence godamnit!

  • @Phil256Woods

BBC Worldwide is a commercial company selling BBC content, services and resources around the world. Your TV tax only keeps UK broadcasts "free" - not home-video recordings, international broadcasts or online video distribution; those are all commercial services.

  • How long is this argument between TJ347 and Pick1980a

  • @Pagra101 Who knows? God only knows, JUST QUIT THE STUPID FIGHT AND FUCKING GIVE IN!!! CHILDISH TWATS!

  • :OOOOOOOOOO

  • The other day I was waiting for the bus and a guy put his foot down in a Caterham CSR, and it was quite incredible. Caterham vs Ford Mustang in a race? Caterham wins - except Stock car and drag racing... and demolition derby? For demolition derby I'll bring a Rolls Royce, smash the Mustang and use the prize money to repair it :)

  • Clarkson has it right though. Britain is the most successful motorsporting nation: 11 drivers winning a total of 14 championships, and 10 British teams have won a total of 33 constructors' titkes.

  • @153mileyfan Ok as has been said to you before this is not about Olympic golds its about motor racing. Now time for you to use logic and common sense see if you can keep up. Your countries population is god knows how much bigger than our so you have an advantage there in choosing the sports iespeople you send to the Olympics and also i believe there is no cap on how many people a country can send to the Olympics so your medal chances are considerably increased. But a cap is being conemplated :)

  • Ferrari has more then 40 people working on every bolt.

    British, british, british

  • you sad sad fuckers.top vid thow.

  • F1 cars of this era with the wider track and shorter wheelbase looked so much better than today's cars.

  • USA still rules the world. Oh and we still have the most olympic gold medals.

  • @153mileyfan You are kidding me? You are comparing gold medals with F1.... where is the engineering in olympic gold medals? And by the way, we are currently engineering the best olympics yet! greets.

  • @bennychelt

lol you're comparing the accomplishments of the fucking OLYMPICS to F1 formula racing? WOW.

  • @153mileyfan I'm sorry, but I pointed out to you that the Olympics has nothing to do with F1 - on a video title containing the word Formula 1..... The Olympics is a bunch of talented Black people, well, at least for the USA.

  • @bennychelt

    oooo racist much?

Black people are still Americans last time i checked....

And they only dominate track and field, not many of the other sports anyways.

I brought up olympic gold medals because(we have the most by far) and because mr. horse face Jeremy clarkson boasts about britain "dominating" F1 racing, a race in which most Americans don't even know about yet alone care for.

  • @153mileyfan Are you a complete moron or what? The title is "British Influences on Formula 1" and you come on here talking about how many Olympic gold medals America has won? Haha, I couldn't give a rats arse how many medals America has won...and even so, it's a shame most of your home grown sports hardly make it out of your own country..... and who cares if Clarkson boasts about Britain, you just boasted about America, you hypocrite.

  • @bennychelt

Wow. you can' honestly be that stupid. I already told you why i brought up olympic gold medals. And i boasted about America BECAUSE jeremy boasted about britain. Now do you understand simpleton?

    And its ASS not arse.

    SPEAK AMERICAN BITCH

  • @153mileyfan Are you retarted? This is why I don't like Americans, it's like speaking with a brick wall. You said first of all and I quote "USA still rules the world. Oh and we still have the most olympic gold medals." - whatever the reason, you brought something up which had absolutely no relevance whatsoever. And correction it is 'Arse' - you are speaking English to me, our language, which is derived from German hence the 'Arse' comes from 'Arsch'... Ass is a donkey you massive tub of shit.

  • @bennychelt

    Nah, i speak American.

you still don't understand do you....Jeremy was bragging about his country. So i bragged about mine. WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND YOU TWAT

  • @153mileyfan You are a complete idiot, you still don't understand. Yes you and Jeremy bragged, but you bragged about the Oympics, which I pointed out have absolutely nothing to do with F1. Why brag about something completely different, surely to brag you should at least keep it on topic, or do you have the imagination of a toddler? As much as you keep replying, I can keep coming at you... You're replies are shite, "Nah, I speak American" - HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH

  • @bennychelt

Uh jeremy bragged about "dominating" a sport so i brought up the fact that we dominate the olympics, which are sports by the way.

    You idiot.

"i speak American" was a sarcastic joke. Obviously you are too retarded to understand that.

  • @153mileyfan Your replies are getting weaker and weaker. I couldn't pick up on the sarcasm when everything else you say makes you sound like a c*nt... sorry.

  • @bennychelt

Is that all you can comeback with? No argument? Lol im still reeling with laughter over the part where you said europe's 500 nuclear warheads could destroy every city in north America. EPIC FAILURE. And by the way, we actually have OUR nukes stationed INSIDE europe. LOLOLOL

  • @153mileyfan Go read on your other video you muppet. You are 26 years old and use the term 'lol'.... need I say anything else?

  • @bennychelt

First off, im not 26 years old you moron. this is one of my accounts, and i didn't care what age i put.

  • @153mileyfan Haha, nice one dickbag. What's the point in lying about your age? Typical, fully insecure with everything. Rather than blowing your trumpet about how good America is, why don't you tell me about yourself.... surely you have nothing going for you if you have to quote your nations statistics... what have you done for America huh? What do you do? Are you worried that America will come 2nd in something sometime? Go on, tell me why you're so cool.... without mentioning GDP. ;)

  • @bennychelt

Lying? Lol you seem to be frustrated in this argument so you're putting words in my mouth. I never said i LIED about my age, i said i didn't care and put whatever number under age as this is my not frequently used account-unless im owning people like you-

I already told you why im so cool. I live in America. The mere fact that i was born on American soil means that i am superior to you. ;)

  • @153mileyfan I'm about as frsutrated as your sexlife. So yeah, pretty. Laters.

  • @bennychelt

First off, you don't know me so you don't know anything about my sex life. Secondly, you just admitted that you were frustrated. Thank you. ;)

  • @153mileyfan Lol... keep driving in your big, easy ovals that roar to the sound of Cosworths..... It is unfortunate that you choose to provide evidence to the worldwide belief that most americans barely have the brains to walk on their hind legs...

    - from a Brit who lives in the US and enjoys manipulating the proletariat (who have degrees).

  • I would give anything to see those cars scream around in full anger again.

  • @MrIrishlogic It's called patriotism and everyone has it. Some are just a bit more open as to their opinions... And no, Clarkson has no humility...

  • Despite Formula 1 having a heavy British influence (which is NOT a bad thing at all), I really enjoy the cultural and ethnic diversity within this beautiful Motorsport; that includes drivers, mechanics, team owners, fans, etc. It really is one of the reasons I am so interested in Formula 1!

  • Interesting that even today the most successful F1 cars have British influence on them, particularly the Red Bull Renault - though the team is Austrian, the chassis was designed by Briton Arian Newey (formerly from Williams and later Mclaren). And their nearest competitor in 2010? Mclaren.

  • Makes me proud to be British. But we shall not shout about it because it's not very British

  • tom walkinshaw!! i thought he was in jail!?!?!

  • weridly, despite how old this vid is, its still relevant

  • Damon Hill is the stig

  • Comment removed

  • WRONG...

Ligier car is seen here on Bridgestone scheme...guess what...it´s FRENCH

    Winner of Monaco 1996, precisely...

  • @sennaf1god94 Wrong!

The Bridgestone livery red and white car is a Arrows Yamaha driven by Damon Hill or someone using his helmet.

  • @flipsidedogchop

Keep your mouth shut u little retarded twat...

That´s a LIGIER JS41-Mugen Honda at SUZUKA during a Bridgestone test in late 1996...and yes it´s Damon Hill.

Bridgestone had development contracts signed both with Ligier (later Prost) and Arrows.

UNDOUBTELY at 2:20 there´s a FRENCH car called Ligier or Ligietton...as It was a COPY of the Bennetton B195 of MS...Ligier was owned in 1995 by Bennetton´s manager, a certain Flavio Briattore.

  • @sennaf1god94 ligier or arrows doesnt matter anymore... If YOU werent such a retarded twat you'd realise that the JS41 was designed by....... thats right, Frank Dernie, an ENGLISHMAN!

  • @flipsidedogchop

    Yep...and the Ferrari F2000 F1 car was African ...

    (Rory Byrne is from Pretoria...)

    Shut the fcking ass...fcktard

  • @sennaf1god94 what the fuck are you on about you senna gay boy

maybe you should move on you fucking soft cock faggot!

  • Dear god, this video makes me want Williams to win again...

  • @GeriatricFan1963 Don't worry I'm sure it will happen soon enough. I doubt they would let Williams go the way of Tyrrell or Brabham.

  • Why to be that big?

Sound like very gringo to me...

  • That William FW14B at 53 seconds is so beautifull!

  • @ssssroryssss2 So is the FW18 just before it

  • cool i've see al your video's

  • f1 has really become boring. Yes the cars are all very impressive and the drivers, no doubt, have huge car control and even bigger balls. All the cars are the same though, someone needs to make something different, to shake things up and challenge the modern f1 design that has become so generic. What f1 needs is a porsche 911, but for f1 rather than motorsport based in reality. maybe electric, or rotary. Maybe an engine hanging over the back wheels. Who knows, maybe even a nice clean design.

  • So your saying that they should have a non f1 car racing in f1.

  • no, still an f1 car, all an f1 car is is a car made to compete in f1 and complies with the restrictions.

  • woo lotus are coming back!

  • well its not really the old lotus

  • all i know is that the mercedes in the back of the mclaren is made in england. northampton to be precise

  • And the one in the Brawn and the one in the Force India, don't forget the little guys!

  • its commonly known yank cars cant go round corners

  • @wakojako150 "There's just one problem with the Mustang, the route its going to travel on has this, a corner" Classic Richard Hammond

  • @wakojako150 which is why 2 of the top 3 records for production cars on the Nuremberg ring are american cars

  • @dankebuddha According to Wikipedia. The record for production cars around the Nurburgring is held by the British Radical SR8 LM at 6 minutes & 48 seconds. Next is the normal Radical SR8 at 6 minutes 55 and third is the German Gumpert Apollo at 7 minutes 11.5 seconds. The quickest American car is the Chevrolet Corvette C6 ZR1 at 7 minutes 19.63 which is 7th.

  • @PastafariansWON actually that's not entirely true both radial cars are barely legal in europe only same with the gumpart were as the viper is road legal over the world

  • @dankebuddha I checked that. The Viper and Corvette they used were both limited edition versions. In stock form, the fastest was the Japanese Nissan GT-R. I'm not saying American cars are all bad, just saying.

  • @PastafariansWON while the acr might be a limited edition the zr 1 is not it's a true option of a car theirs also the z06 grand sport then base corvette it all depends on the size of your wallet and balls

  • Even in todays F1, there is still alot of British workers who work for Ferrari.

    It is a good relationship.

  • Morgan, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, TVR, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lotus, Westfield, and we also have Nissan, Honda, and Toyota car plants in the UK.

The talent is here, even if the companies are foreign owned, except Morgan, which is still owned by the same family.

  • Idiots. None of you know shit.

  • @LukeXgamer; you're absolutely right. Youtube is literally bursting at the seams with people who have no idea what they're talking about. Opinions, flung around like monkey shit. It's rampant. But, this video is still true today and most folks know it. The Brits have always been at the heart of F1 and will forever remain, if not on top, then close to it.

  • @golfboyvag1 -Uuuhh... I'm not really expressing views and opinions, just sheer observation. Not really sure where being a technical director at Ferrari comes in, or deciding who's shit belongs to whom. LOL, those things are not up for me to decide, I think you've missed my point somewhere.

  • @Philx4xFar you dont need to be on top to love something and be the heart of it. british werent on top but they are the heart of F1. AND THATS COMING FROM AN ITALIAN CAR FAN

  • lol yanks just wont admit that we ae the best at motorsport

  • Way do you make such shit cars then?

  • american cars are big shoty bricks. i love old mustangs and the like. but british cars are engineering marvels and much more beautiful. and have a greater sense of pedigree.

  • but you make the best f1 cars for sure

  • yu really think so

what bout jaguar n aston martin? dont say you wouldn't mind a car from them or perhaps TVR (yes they still make cars)

  • Minardi who don't really count lol!

all but bmw and mercs vokswagen owns every other german car manufacturer. so audi's aren't independent gumpert and wiesmans aren't big enough to count. goin down the main road won't guarantee that you will see a wiesmann but will gurantee you see a bmw

  • except all but mercs and bmw's are owned by vokswagenthey even own car company's from other companies. lambos- vokswagens

  • Ferrari left John Barnard when he refused to move to Marenello.

  • it does make a difference how much a driver weighs. An F1 car must weigh a minimum of 605kg including driver. A lighter driver means more weight can be distributed more optimal.

  • Aston Martin is owned by Prodrive = British

    Morgan = British

    Ariel = British

    Caterham = British

    Bristol = British

    Noble = British

Granted these are not massive auto producers but that was never britians talent. They have and always will design and produce the best performance cars on the planet.

Name another country with this many independent car makers. And no the US does not have as many because modifying existing Mustangs and Corvette's does not count.

  • "Name another country with this many independent car makers. "

    Germany

  • Can't think of many:

    Gumpert

    Veritas

    Wiesmann

    Artega Motors

Prosche (I suppose because technically the family owns a majority stake but they are really no independent in that they are a corporate entity with $billions of dollars in Revenue)

Thats still not more than Britain's top 6. Keep in mind i did not mention companies with limited production. (Ascar, Caparo, Ginetta, Ultima, and Westfield)

Nice try though but Germany not #1.

  • pick1980a i have been waiting for another person to say that, i have been saying that for years!!!! you forgot tvr and melling.

  • @Pick1980a you know there are 13 f1 teams right, well 10-11 of them are based in the UK

  • @Pick1980a Aston Martin is partially owned by Prodrive, so I wouldn't be so fast to call it British. As to you're claim that the rest of these manufacturers have and always will design and produce the best performance cars on the planet... I should think Ferrari, among several others, would disagree, as would a number of well known automotive designers. You're also wrong about having the most independent car makers, but I'll leave you to your delusions. Good day.

  • @TJ347 How about an update since this is a year old

    Scratch Bristol and include:

AC: For got that the first time because of all the ownership confusion

Ascari: They didn't really have a sellable product at the time

Caparo: The T1 is now for sale

Ginetta: Can't believe I forgot them the last time they have been around forever

Grinnall: Who cares really but they are British and make their own cars; point made

McLaren: They have a production car now

Radical: They also sell road legal versions

  • @Pick1980a to me to say a aston is not british because of who owns it is stupid the car was founded in britian and built in britian and still is built in brittian, lambo is italian who cares who owns it holden australian despite being owned by gm, the new camaro is based of a smaller holden ve chassie and the first model was built in australia but i would still call it american cause it's an american company who makes it them selves now.

  • @nachospole1 I kind of agree with but when VW bought Lamborghini the cars got the Quattro all wheel drive system and the cars got way more reliable. I would say when the purchasing company has a significant impact on the car that is built then the company loses some of it's national identity. However, that's not to say the cars get worse, in fact many times they get much, much better. Some people just have a shoe up their ass about foreign ownership.

  • @TJ347 ...... Ran out of space

    Trident: Still producing those trikes

Ultima: Still selling road going versions of the GTR

    Westfield: Still very much alive

    With all due respect;

Before you try & come off arrogant like you know what the fuck you are talking about you might want to do a little research. For instance type in P-R-O-D-R-I-V-E in this new site called GOOGLE & see what comes up!!! Then again maybe that's too much to ask a guy who lists "Firearms" as the only interest

    on his page!LOL

  • @Pick1980a Wow. Such anger over an issue where neither of us has a personal stake. I do apologize for not listing every aspect of my life on my Youtube page for your perusal and approval. Please accept my humblest apologies and rest well in the knowledge that your superior internet search skills would have both silenced me and changed my position... if China didn't have more automakers than the UK does, which I know having actually been to China. Most don't come up on a Google search.

  • @TJ347 The fact that I can type PRODRIVE into Google hardly makes me a superior internet researcher; it just makes you all the more ignorant.

P.S. I know without have to research anything that a majority of the Chinese car companies are partially owned by foreign automakers. Anyone who knows anything about the Chinese auto industry understands that it would not be as sophisticated as it is without a tremendous amount of foreign intervention. So that kinda destroys your point altogether.

  • @Pick1980a Oh, no! You've insulted my intelligence AND completely silenced me with witty comebacks!

Internet mobsters on Youtube... Disagree with them over something completely immaterial to either of your lives, and they come unglued. I'm going to let this be, as I don't care enough. Still, the fact you felt the need resort to insults over this BS is very telling, as is the fact you've ceded my point about China having more automakers than the UK, which was my main point. Good day.

  • Comment removed

  • @TJ347 Heres the thing though, you insulted me initially & I was simply responding. 2ndly you conveniently forgot in your response that the vast majority of Chinese automakers produce cars with foreign help. Lastly, the initial context & comment of mine you slammed refereed to Independent Sports Car Makers & was a response to an assertion that the British car industry was dead. Yes China has a bunch of car companies but none of them are performance focused & not one can pass western safety regs

  • @TJ347 P.S. visiting the country does not make u an expert on all the industries within said country because that is just ridiculous. Also there are several sites which list all the Chinese automotive companies. For instance if u type "Automotive industry in the peoples republic of china" in wikipedia u will see a comprehensive listing of all the companies & their links to foreign automakers. Again a little more research before u open your mouth might be warranted.

  • @Pick1980a As I said, HAVING BEEN THERE, we saw several Chinese automakers that you won't find doing a Google search. I was aware when I said that previously that they're also NOT listed on Wikipedia. Only a fool would infer that I was saying having been there made me an expert on anything... Anyone else would have concluded that I had knowledge of something based on having seen it first hand. Jeezus.... Well, at least you're not arguing about who has the most automakers anymore.

  • @TJ347 Prodrive owns more than half now makes all of the operating decisions. The Kuwaiti's where only their to finance the purchase & are being paid back

As for the performance car comment one who actually knows what the fuck they are talking about might say the Ariel Atom & Caterham provide superior performance for their price. Ferrari, Pagani & Lamborghini make excellent cars but that is all Italy has to offer and by virtue of that they do not have the same volume of independent car makers.

  • Many F1 teams are still operating out of the U.K.

  • Imagine if F1 and Indy cars used ONLY midgets and dwarfs a drivers?

The weight savings/performance could be enormous!

  • it doesnt make a difference how much the driver weighs.

F1 cars have a minimum of 625 kilos, with the driver.

they could make the car weigh twice as less if they wanted to.

  • yeah, but midget=automatic lulz!

  • Of course it makes a difference how much the driver weighs. The less weight the more ballast they can use to place around the car to optimize the weight distribution. It can affect the handling and performance enormously.

  • you cant count FInns out these days

  • I miss these old doc's, full of enjoyment and full of facts

  • A symbol of great British engineering :)

  • If you are interested in Indy car racing then you should know about Nigel Mansell. He is the only driver ever to hold the F1 and Indy car world championships at the same time!! In 1996 Demon Hill became the F1 world champion. To date, there has been 9 British F1 champions. And you obviously don't know about road cars like the Mini Jaguar E-Type Land Rover Aston Martin Bently Rolls Royce Caparo T1 Lotus Triumph Noble TVR AC Cobra and the Mclaren F1 which held the top speed record for 12 years.

  • I have lots of American friends who are kind and intelligent. You represent the element of American sociaty that is completely ignorant. Alot of people say that Richard Burns was the "Ayrton Senna" of Rally car racing and he was British. Ayrton Senna drove for 2 British teams and got his training here. It looks like Brittain will have another F1 champion with a British team this year as Jenson Button has already won 3 out of 4 races.

  • Senna got his kart training in Brazil, and his formula training in England, not the best time of his life, but he competed in british formula.

  • tell me an american hu has won in the last 5 years ?

  • r u fucking joking ? u obviously dont know what ur talking about a british make won last year with a british driver mclaren n lewis hamilton ring any bells ?

  • @brydon2008 with a german engine

  • @mouloudo @mouloudo to be honest, the chassis is more important than the engine in quite some ways. american cars are a good example of good engines with rubbish chassis. lotus however, have a rubbish engine but an excellent chassis and they somehow work out and its an absolutely brilliant car.

  • @MrRunforyourlife the Chassis is probably the msot important part but you cant put aside the engine, for example last year you saw the name renault appear in a lot of the top teams in the manufacturer championship, on the contrary Cosworth was at the far end, so even if the chassis is more important ( Red bull/ Renault F1) you can see trends in the engine preformances. plus last week renault made 3rd with petrov just by changing the exhaust system imagine if kubica was driving that car

  • @mouloudo the engine does matter. but the chassis is still more important in F1. with all the cornering, the chassis has to be good. engines are important too, but they are not as influential as the engine itself.

  • @MrRunforyourlife yeah I totally agree but that trend is changing especially in 2013 when the Motor manufacturers will provide a total solution for motor/gearbox/KERS to the teams... chassis will still be the sote important thing but the differences of package will definitly change performances from a team to another

  • @mouloudo

Lotus uses the Renault engine too,and look how much that helps them. They are nowhere near Red Bull, or even Renault (ironically called "Lotus"-Renault") levels

BMW had the best, most powerful engine in 2002-2003-2004, but the Williams was never as good a car as the Ferrari was,so despite not having the most powerful engine Ferrari still dominated in 2002 and 2004. Montoya used the BMW to take 7 poles, but in the races they were nowhere

A good chassis can utilize more from the engine

  • @mouloudo

German huh? Mercedes money paid for that engine, other than that the design is all British.

You see those "Mercedes" engines were first designed by Ilmor in England, and later just branded Mercedes from 1994 onwards. Later Mercedes bought Ilmor and renamed it Mercedes High Performance Engines Ltd in 2005.

The engines are designed and built in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, United Kingdom. Not Stuttgart, like so many ignorant Germans seem to think.

Next time verify before you say it.

  • @McLarenMercedes so what Nike shoes are made in pakistan, does that make Nike a pakistanese company? not really... stop thinking national ,think global, Renault, Mercedes, Ferrari all have engineers and workshopers from every country in the world, you're not better because your passport is German, american or French...

  • the british made the best luxury & sports cars in the world but got bought out by fat greedy americans but the british quality is still there

    aston martin

    bentley

    rolls-royce

    jaguar

    tvr

    lotus

  • Or Indians

  • the good thing about it is that the indians who bought out aston martin is co-owned by an englishman so atleast the americans dont get them all and bentley was bought out by germans

  • Yeah thats a good point, its a shame to bout RR being BMW as well.

  • 1.38 - John Barnard. He didn't last very long before Ross Brawn came in! It doesn't do job security any good when both your teams cars retire in 3 races in a row!

  • As of December, 2009, there will be a new class of F1 racing: in the interests of fairness, the cars must be made from each country's national dish. German cars must be manufactured from bratwurst, French cars from croissants, American cars from lard, and Australian entries from roadkill. British cars will be made from lager. The Japanese will be racing in a chassis made from a southern right whale calf, plundered from Australian territorial waters.

  • I was laughing soooo hard at my office after reading your comments. Almost fell off my chair~~~ :)

  • Here here.

  • LOL.

  • @professorbuglefarts1 Sorry, but for the american that will be a big gigantic burger.

  • @professorbuglefarts1 surely powered by lager, made of chips ?

  • @professorbuglefarts1 The italian one will be made of mafia, spahetti and bunga bunga fueled.

  • Soz, my maths is crap. We havent won 75% of all the constructors championships, its something more like 62%, but still, thats a lot

  • Maserati and Alfa Romeo Won the world championship as well although it was before the world constructors championship was started.

  • Sorry for repeating myself a bit, and sorry for the spelling mistakes.

  • Yes, Ferrari are the most succesful team, but they are the only Italian team ever to win in F1. Also, Italian drivers have only won a total of 3 championships, whilst we've won 10 more.

The French have won 3 constructors titles; 1 for Matra, 2 for Renault.

We have won 32; over 75% of all the constructors championships, even though we haven't won one for 11 years.

We were the first nation to win the constructors title in 1958, and since then we've won almost all of them.

  • Even thought Britain has not won an F1 Constructors title since 1998, we've still won 32 out of 49, more than anyone else.

We've also had 9 drivers champions winning 13 championships between them, more than anyone else.

Britsh drivers have won over 200 races, more than anyone else, and British teams have won 486 grand prix, out of 803.

6 out of the 10 current F1 teams are based in the UK,, and over half of all the F1 teams that have ever existed are British.

  • Also if you think about it the other not UK based teams like Ferrari, Toyota and BMW have a lot of British engineers working for them in key roles!

  • long live the british engineer :P

  • sadly enough...i have to agree about the racing bit there! most of my fellow americans are engulfed by the stupid motor sport called nascar! the word only makes my stomach churn!

  • you should see the joke about nascar in gta 4

it was something like "race fans are you prepared to sit down and watch rednecks race in a circle 500 tomes"

  • I think Daimler and Benz were German actually ;)

  • Well played xD

  • right because modern cars have a ladder chassis and leaf spring suspention....

the last thing that had that here was a donkey cart

  • so, this is from ´96/´97. suprisingly about 10 years later it seems that germany has become the centre of formula 1 technology

F1 teams based in the UK

    McLaren

    Red Bull

    Williams

    Honda

    Force India
