  • Meşhur selmek taksim

  • desterlu Thank U for your beautiful notice that Yorgo Bacanos was not from Greece!'He bornt in Silivri, a small town near Istanbul, on the 21st September 1900.He was from a Greek-Gypsy family among whose members were musicians'.Yorgo's music does not represent Turks, Greeks or Gypsies but his heart, mind and spirit. From my standpoint, it is very beautiful to combine different cultures, believes or faiths. As greek I learnt at school to love and approve of diversity.I am sure u did the same:0).

  • yorgo bacanos was one of the last ottomans. end of discussion.

  • @wictoragazade

r there many ottomans called Yiorgos??? how blind and dead can u be..?

  • Just his name's Greek, but the music is completely, pure, narive, unique Turkish Classical Music.

  • Dostlar sağola

  • Giorgos Batzanos was born in 1900 in Silivria on Eastern Thrace he is Greek. He also played the piano.

    Keep tuned.

  • Cok tesekkur ederim

  • selmek

  • Mahur makamı üstadım mahur

  • Şahane!

  • i don't care about his roots, but it's a pitty that greek goverment etc has forgot him ,as all the other similar composers of Istanbul before him.

  • Aman Allahim,bu nasil icra?

  • is this makam rast?

  • only rast

  • I think, he is a greek who made wonderful turkish classical music : ).

  • he was Greek and he composed Classical Ottoman music. There was also Marco Tsolakoglou,Sherif Muhiddin Targan,Tomboullis, and many many others.Other Greeks were Petrakis,Zaharia,Nikolakis,Tzortzis, all great Composers. Also Turks like Cemil Bey,the great master of Tanbur and classical kemence.

  • stop it. no pure race, no pure culture, we r more things sharing with greeks than the others. he is same value for me as ercuament batanay n others. rest in peace ustad. noone ll forget you

  • yorgo nun kim oldugundan ne oldugundan ziyade su güzel musikiyi nasil icra ettigi önemli, dinlemesi müthis bir zevk, zirve sanatcidir kendisi...

  • yorgo bacasos was from greece dont forget this and hi was one of the best player

  • he was not from greece. he was a greek-gypsy genius from istanbul whose native language was turkish. and importantly what he made was turkish music.

  • Why does he have to be "greek-gypsy"...was Mustafa Kemal Atatürk a "Turk-gypsy" because he was born in Thessaloniki? We were all Ottaman's once and we lived together in peace...do not let politicians cloud our minds...we have more in common than we do differences ..Greeks were born in "Turkey" and Turks were born in "Greece"...what does it really matter anymore...we share the same mountains, seas, food and music...let the politicians all go drown for all I care...let us enjoy the music !!!!

  • @FabianPhilippoussis bravo!! i aggre whith you

  • @FabianPhilippoussis

What desturlu meant was not gypsy in a derogatory sense, but that Bacanos descended from Rom gypsies.

The reason why everybody's always fighting about all these talented people and "to whom they and their music belong" (as if that were even possible!), is because all of our countries don't mean shit nowadays, but instead of doing what we can to make it better, we keep throwing cow dung at eachother, fighting over past glories that were not even our property to begin with.

  • @FabianPhilippoussis You are an idiot. We did not live in peace. Do you call peace at the point of a sword peace? Peace through oppression? Dont be an idiot.

  • @desturlu i did not see what this post responds to, but i can imagine .

it may not be accurate exactly to call this "turkish" music; wouldnt that moniker more accurately go to saz and tambour music from anatolia?

istanbuli music by defintiion is built upon foundations of byzantine, arab, and persian musics, with additions from armenian, greek, jewish, and turkish elements. ?

i mean this certainly sounds quite different musically from the anotolian turkish stuff, like azik veysel, etc.

  • @sukkot54 the music you are talking about is called "folk music"

  • @TheSemperfidoc exactly my point, sir. turkish music is folk music. classical music of the ottoman period is "ottoman empire "music, which by its very definition is formed from multiple influences, not the least of which are persian and arab, but also greek, armenian, jewish, kurdish. the turks are a particular ethnic group, but this music does not belong to them any more than european classical music could be called german or english. (not an exact analogy).

  • @sukkot54 ukkot54 all that and more......that is why music speaks to everyone...yorgo, his brother aleko, udi hrant, kemani tatyos, sebuh, bimen sen, kemani serkis, astik to mention only few.... greatly influenced by those

before them to influence those after them--may that never stop.......

  • @TheSemperfidoc inshallah. anyway i was just responding to some turkish nationalist's post. all ethnic groups are mixes of ethnic groups, esp when it comes to music, maybe all the more balkan and ottoman.

    cheers. i am sicilian, btw.

  • @sukkot54 re: "sukkot" sefardi?

  • @desturlu Turkish music?? Idiot, the oud is not a turkish instrument. The Oud dates back thousands of years even before the Roman Empire.

  • @AegeanKing desturlu didn't say oud is a turkish instrument but the music played on the oud in this video is turkish...idiot.

  • @desturlu lol...explain me please...what is "turkish music" ?

  • @dioskouros1957 what does it mater where he comes from.. he was a great human been.. greek .. turkish.. palestinian.. who cares?? listen to the music may bee you will become a beter person...

  • @dioskouros1957

    Moron!

  • Beautiful. Where is the recording of this Taksim from? This is not the Rast one on the recordings of Traditional Crossroads. (The first picture of the CD label you have there.) Thank you.

  • dick heads, greek or turkish, listen music and learn something.

  • This music never played at arabia and persia. this is just "turkish" music.

  • what? this tunes r played all over greece arabia turkey and persia..... u just have no clue...

  • don't argue my friends

let's listen this perfection and protect it.

if we continue arguing, then we cant hear the music properly with our heart.

  • burada irkcilik yapmak hic hos olmuyor hele medeniyim diyen yunanlilara hic avrupaya girdiniz zaten artik yunan yok tek ulke oldunuz ama biz turkuz ne olacak turkiye sinirlari icinde doganlarin hepside turktur bu kadar biz irkci degiliz bu muzik ya evrenseldir bunu boyle dinleyin eskileri unutun ayrildiniz yeni sanatcilar uretin

  • how come no one in the middle east, turks, kurds, arabs , farsever made a name for himself or herself in world music. look at the great asians in he world music scene.

backward like in all other areas. only talks. tlsk is cheap.

  • Great technical skill

  • Actually it is not not important whether he is greek or not.The important thing is that, this is TURKISH music not greek.;)

  • we got oud maqams and so on too....this kind of music is played all across the eastern mediterranean arabia and persia also!

  • this one is turkish school obviously.

  • Bacanos was born and died a Turkish citizen. What matters most is that he was an absolutely magnificent Oud player, not his "blood Line", or his citizenship. I am a Greek, but the truth is the truth.

  • Yorgos is a great Ut player my family knew him he was Greek just like millions of people under the Ottoman empire but he was a gift to our culture Greek or Turkish I remember when I was growing up in Istanbul listening to Yorgos at the TRT, I was so proud having a Greek playing on the Turkish radio unfortunatelly things changeg.

  • gami8ite koloturki...

  • Yorgo is a turkish name? Bacanos too? hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahaha its like telling a turk that Emre yilmaz is a greek name.... both of his parents were greek...they didnt want to left the asian minor after the conquest of the asian part of greece...

  • So it is better to listen Yorgo Bacanos, the greatest ud player. He was christian with a Greek name. He lived in Instabul. He played the oud, an arabic instrument that came to Instabul only in the the late 1800! So stop fighting. Bacanos is Bacanos. He was a musician.

  • Half of the "Greek" were killed during the war that took place in 1922 and the rest came as refugees in Greece.

The ottoman empire was a multinational state. Modern Turkey is not the "follower" of ottoman empire. Infact the modern Turkey doesn't want to have any relation with the Sultan and the ottomans. But they keep all the culture of them as theirs. The ottoman culture was a unique mixture of civilasations, which ofcourse rose by force and war. But this is another subject.

  • Most of the comments are turkish which I don't understand. From the emglish comnts I understand that the Turks claim he was a Turk. The historical fact is that before 1920, 2 - 3 million cristians were living in Anatolia, who called them selves "Greek" and many other nations, cristian or not who didn't call them selves "Greek".

  • >>many other nations, cristian or not who didn't call >>them selves "Greek".

Excuse me. I wanted to write

"many other nations, cristian or not who didn't call them selves "Turks"".

  • greek or turkish, whats the difference? if u r feeling the same emotion when u r listening...

  • Giorgos bacanos 1900 ooo you where borned in 1900 and you know him and you know his cousin too? Do you know zaharia hanede? Is he turkish too?

  • he is originally greek, but was born and grow up in turkey.

  • evet rum asillidir kendisi dogrudur ama ud,u yunan asilli oldugu icin degil türkiyede dogup büyüdügü ve osmnli müziginden etkilendigi icin böyle calabiliyor!Neden yunanistanda böyle ud calanlar cikmiyor o zaman?

  • harika...listen to ORHAN GENCEBAY...

  • respect man (nikosqt)

  • So, 'Yiorgo' is now a Turkish name? It is no longer Greek for 'George'....interesting....and 'bacanos' is also Turkish? Wow! You folks not only change/deny history....you change the ethnicity of people to suit your purposes,,,,,,,

  • Bizlere yol gösteren emsalsiz icraların için sonsuz teşekürler.Nur içinde yat Yorgo bacanos...

  • tüğlerim diken diken

  • he is from a greek family ,but a turkish man who makes turkish music...

  • He was a greek-gypsy from silivria like his cousin the great kemence player lambros leontaridis

  • he is TÜRK.

  • you are really hopeless, arent you? stop calling everyone turk.

  • hes a greek gypsie....he has got greek blood not turkish mate..... why do u deny his ethnicy....just accept that the best oud player in turkey is greek.....
