A leviathan was basically anything big and unfamiliar in the ocean - Deep sea creatures that were sometimes but rarely spotted, like giant squid and oarfish. We know almost nothing about the fish that could be living in the deepest parts of the ocean (People say that either the ocean or the rainforest is always the best place to find new species.) There are probably loads of other 'sea monsters' waiting to be discovered.
