  • Love the look of this car!!!

  • the engine on the 2006-present Ford Edge

    Engine

    2.0L EcoBoost I4 (2011-)

    3.5L V6

  • why are they comparing a fwd edge to an awd edge?

  • the engine on the 2007-present Ford Edge

    Engine

    2.0L EcoBoost I4 (2011-)

    3.5L V6

  • I drove both SEL and Sport. I would take the sport for looks and bells & whistles.. and upgrade the brakes to high-end ceramic pads and rotors ($250 apx).. that will improve brake responsea little, and be on my merry little way.

  • Looks like Range rover Evoque

  • Ford Edge 2011.......awesome!!!

  • ford edge looks great, especially the sport. i would take an edge sport over an audi Q3,5,7 and happily save myself some grands. sadly we don't have them here in germany.

  • i have a 2011 ford edge and it has 300 horse power

  • the 2007-present Ford Edge is assembled in

    Oakville, Ontario, Canada

  • As long as production of American cars is kept in Detroit, that depressing, mediocre, communist third world hell whole, American cars will continue to suck.

  • @USA4July1776 Not all American cars are made in Detroit. Not that I think that matters.

  • @USA4July1776 Except it's assembled in Canada...

  • @PantstofryPWNZ, so too are the Dodge Charger and Challenger.

  • @MrPman851 Um, okay. That's irrelevant to the point I was making, but sure.

  • Ford Edge is one of the widest SUVs in its class, making it very bulky and difficult to park in tight spaces ...

  • @davidhalifax how about you taking a refresher parking course....i have one and have no issues parking it..especially in tight spaces..and ive only been driving 6 months.

  • @tereseus ... only if you are paying for it.

  • @davidhalifax No it's actually very easy, I just got a drivers permit, and its no harder to park than a rav4

  • this guy really sucks a explaining things..... man you really suck

  • Ahh who needs brakes.

  • I switched out my brakes for a set of brembos and now i have all the stopping power int he world

  • @1RaVeN1FTW Did you change the pads or the discs?

  • @loudmuzik03 I changed both discs and pads.

  • I hope you all realize that the brakes are really bad, and even that extra feet can lead you to an accident. Just to let you know it was only 0-60, imagine if you were in the highway driving faster than that. Good luck.

  • it is not that expensive it just has a lot of stuff

  • @AronAirlines who's we? i don¨t want any ugly and sqare american piece of ¨car¨, and i don't know anybothey else that does

  • @AronAirlines do we`?

  • Braking is Poor? Those were bad numbers....

  • I really like the EDGE but like i ben saying the price is just to much for something that is made in america. When you have oversea companies building in america for the same price you need to lower the price on your cars to keep up because most people are going to look at maxima's and other oversea cars if they can get them for the same price. I mean the C class Benz is about the same as the sport EDGE so which one would most people take. I love Ford but they need to rethink the prices.

  • love this car so far, daily driver, roomy, drives smooth, avg gas mileage, had a 2010 honda crv trafed it in on 2011 Ford Edge, dont knock it till u drive it, thank you Ford Gods.

  • Getting my tuxedo black SEL on May 11 :))

  • 3.5 horse power

  • Damn, crappy braking!!! I dont want it anymore!

  • If your an every day style driver the Ford Edge is one heck of a vehicle, well appointed and stylish too boot!

  • What ever dude! SUV not a sport car meaning not bad for a SUV crossover.

  • test drove then rented the Ford Edge. Not impressed. Although, nice looking SUV type, brake performance was a problem. Not recommended. Instead, chose another car maker.

  • Put on the bigger brakes and it will be perfect. No car should be braking 60-0 in 155 feet.

    That is ridiculous.

  • @vincedog3

    it said 124 feet

  • @vincedog3 Who Needs To Stop?!

  • love this vehicle, wish i could afford one, they are so comfortable, fun to drive, have nice options for a good price and get great milage, tbh Ford i beleive is the 1# american manfucaturer if not the top of all. i really llove their new vehicles they have really stepped up there game and now im glad they did

  • Dear motortrend: Please use different background music.

  • Oh shucks its stops at 154 feet!! thats too bad, I'm looking for a vehicle that stops in the 140 feet range. haha fuck who cares.

  • wow the sport looks awesome. i wish you can get an optional 6 speed manual transmission instead.

  • @quikiemcbee it has the lil manual thing on the auto.. I recently rented this vehicle.. It is really nice for an suv.. its quiet, and it can get up and go when u want it to.. The best part about it is all the cool lil things inside.. like the lights, and the sound system has a nice quality STOCK Bump.. which is nice.. but i twas a rental car so.. i wouldn't buy it only if i had too...

  • @scotsmaninusa It is still awful, 23 - 32 MPG UK Modern European cars are ~40MPG UK +

  • @ZenderSprint ive drivin in the u.k.... wait.. i mean i have sat in a car in traffic in the u,k, wishin I was at the autobahn.. and let me tell u Gas was the very last thing on my mind.. I could give two fucks about it.. and if you want to make a big fuss about gas... then go suck on some bio fuel u panzi.. maybe ur U.K. brands can be brilliant and change the world with something... oh wait THEY HAVEN'T AND NEVER WILL. So just lay off the gas thing ok.. it is just a fucking review..

  • Why are American vehicles still running 3.5 V6 petrol engines as a base model?

That is ludicrous, if you opted for European cars with 2.0 4 cylinder engines, you would achieve around 36mpg day to day.

No wonder why your oil demand is so high, what a waste of resources.

  • those brakes look like a donut compared to a pizza

  • @bwright1991 Lol, I like your analogy.

  • Yea .. the barkes seem a little soft ...however by no means do I want everyone to believe that the Edge does not have good enough brakes ...the owner of the vehicle will get accustomed to the brakes and it will be fine . I have driven the 2011 and did not see or feel any difference under normal driving . I appreciate you looking at a new Ford next year ..

  • Make the Edge RWD and slap an Aerostar SVT badge on it and I will happly buy it...

  • @ZImpresive Sorry , but they will not build a car for 1 person ..not to mention it would be in 50's K price range. Not a good business move.

  • This is a very nice crossover for the average family. If you want performance add aftermarket brakes and sts turbos and let the fun begin.

  • What is with those new gauges? The ugliest gauges ever. Even if I could buy a Ford Edge (or Explorer for that matter), I would not buy just because of those gauges.

  • @Fussinated You really have to understand and have someone that knows the system of how it really works . Safety is what Ford had in mind when they created this vehicle. I know the Nav. system inside and out ..however the new one took me a little longer to understand ...Ford makes 2 different Nav. systems this year ...with Edge and Explorer having the newer system. It really can be alot of fun once you understand it.

  • @dhpdhp100 No, no. I am talking about the gauges that point downwards and ends at the upper right quarter of the dial. If it is for safety to check the speed the eye movement is more downwards than the classic dials which start at the lower left quarter and ends at the lower left quarter of the dial.

  • I drive my '03 Toyota Matrix all week long and on weekends I drive my wife's new Edge Limted. I almost rear end someone within the first 20 minutes every time because the braking is so much worse than on the Matrix.

  • @mikemk92 Don't forget that it's alot heavier .

  • @dhpdhp100 True but you'd think Ford could do a bit more in the size of the rotor and pad size. Believe me. The only complaint I have about it is the braking. It's a comfortable, attractive truck with plenty of power. I'll likely buy a 2011 Edge in a year or so since my Matrix will have about 180000 mi. on it.

  • @mikemk92 its like 3 thousand pounds heavier dude, of course it wont stop as fast..

  • Just showing it lausy breaks? Y even bother?

  • how can ford allow a car like this for it to stop from 60-0 in anything over 124 feet? hell no. ford is cheap, so that it can use cheap products that only last about 3 years.

  • are those brakes from the fiesta? they don't work with 2 ton cars do they?

  • Then you are awareness impaired. I not only included numbers but cited a source for those numbers. One source among many that can be found if you were to actually research the matter rather than rely upon your uneducated beliefs.

Never change, little-minded man. Never change.

  • ford is doing great, actually ford is getting more respect now since they didnt take the bailout money, and with new desighners and the new ceo ford is doing great now,its not surprising that ford is actually the top american company now,gm has competition but thats what keeps it interesting, ford and gm at their best, and now america is speeding past most japanese cars in tehnology, thats called american enginuity

  • Yea, don't forget Motor Trend picked the Vhevrolet Vega as "Car of the Year"

  • Disign is good, but its still FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily)

  • Ford got no bailout, and look at the quality of cars they are putting out. Impressive.

  • @stephenapr1 Not true. Ford, Toyota and BMW all took some of the money. They just didn't need it to avoid bankruptcy and are thus correct in saying that they didn't "need" to take money from the government.

Agreed that they are making a quality product though.

  • @hansen71199 I find it difficult to take advice from someone who still cannot spell "your" however, I am well aware of the facts. Ford took the following:

    Export-Import Bank loan - $250M

    DOE loans - $2.9B

    technology research loans - $62M

    supply network bailout - $5B

    -Reuters

The money has been repaid and it was a good move on Ford's part but to claim that they took no money is dishonest and shows that you have not done any research yourself and are perpetuating the myth.

  • @LerticusMaximus are you talking about bailout money from the US government? is so ford did not take any at all, and it would make no sense for toyota( a japanese company) and BMW(a german company) to take US money..so you are wrong.

  • @lonespartan31289 true, i dont know why people are trying to pin things on companies that havent taken any, ford has never taken any because they were smart and saved for something like this, not saying they are in the same shape as before the economic downturn but they are doing well considering.

  • @LerticusMaximus Ford didn't take any bailout money

  • wow its nice but my standard edition 270hp v6 2010 highlander does 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds

  • POWER.. isnt always everything you know.. this has always gm's problem. hope they do something about it now, cant wait for the time where gm beats the crap out of italian cars and german cars.. thing is,.. when will that happen..

  • Comment removed

  • @tinleo333 Yeah you have a good point about the damn brakes, but other than that the motor trend testers are putting it through tests regular people won't put it through. So some people are judging the Edge based on unrealistic scenarios. Except for the brake situation, which does need improvement.

  • this cars is the shit. i just picked up the 2011 version. i have no complaints at all. its fast it deff stops and the family feels safe in it.

  • Sounds like these should have called it the "Pork", not the "Sport"!

  • I would like to see Ford add a Boss version to the Edge. I think this could be a cool looking muscle SUV with the Boss stripes.

    DRG

  • Nice review, hope there would be more reviews of this car. That song in the background is tight, whats it called??

  • I don't see a point in having the edge since the explorer is now a car and built similarly, and just offer a sport package in the explorer like before.

  • They need to have the option of sport grill on regular edge, I'll get one then. I don't want the sport with those numbers. I'll get the mustang for weekend too! Better give me good deal on both of them!

  • so where is the diesel engine edge?

  • Gimme one with a freakin diesel engine already.

  • I just saw my neighbors new ford edge, i was stunned it looks very clean in person very eye catching... i was shocked to know it was a ford lol.. good work .. !!!

  • if u dont like the look of this edge then ur blind.... this is a very sexy vehicle.... at first i didnt like the black grill as much as the crome when i saw it on here but when i saw it in person i really liked it

  • Man Sport Edge looks NEAT !!! i don't care about performance

  • i have a bigger question,

who the hell does straight aways in a ford edge?

these kinds of tests are pointless.

  • So we gotta get some aftermarket brakes....big deal

    I'll take the sport one

  • I liked the original one, still WAY better than that long ass station wagon thing they had, haha it was just terrible! Flex or something

  • That plastic grill looks horrible on a Sport vehicle..

  • Sexy.

  • FAIL

  • The sport is super sexy in person

  • I really like how gorgeous it is but thats my opinion.

  • Those brakes are to small , get bigger rotors and you will stop shorter. With those I would be afraid of someone braking suddenly in front of you. Your might rear end them if your too close .

  • @Jim4575 trust me, there fine. Motortrend is just used to test mustangs and cars that weigh a lot less.

  • @NitroGadvRules Ok . I do like the engine improvements.

  • Hey yall need to quit trippn. Who really is gonna drive the edge like those testers at motor trend do? In the real world,no one is really buying the edge to test it like we see on this video. Cmon! Ease up. It's a nice suv with good gas mileage, it's safe, and stylish, and most of middle america is going to buy it and enjoy it. If everybody bought or didn't buy vehicles based on the opinions of motor trend, the car companies would need unlimited bailouts!

  • @charlieboozer82 Lets see, Ford's market share_ UP...adding 1200 jobs_UP again. Stock price, from $2 to $16 (yesterday).. UP.....not bailed out by government because they do it right UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! No government money for Ford.! Rock on Henry Ford !

  • @Martin00028Guitar Ok maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not hating on Ford. I have 2002 Taurus that has over 100k miles. I was talking to all the haters of the ford edge. They were making it seem like people in the real world were going to, on a normal day, drive the edge like the motor trend people drive it. They were putting it through the tester as if the general buying public would be doing the same. Give the edge a break, is what I was saying to the hatin' ass commenters! Me and u are cooltho

  • @charlieboozer82 when you has to stop in an emergency situation you can get kill with those bad breakes

  • @charlieboozer82 Nahh there gonna buy the jeep grand cherokee. I love driving that car

  • @drippinblood28 well thats nice. I dont have an opinion on the grand Cherokee. Its nice looking tho. Im just not a chrysler man. Sorry. No, wait, I'm actually not!

  • @charlieboozer82 Regardless of cornering prowess, the fact that the Edge has very poor braking performance should make it a deal-breaker. 155 feet for 60-0 is extremely bad. And all drivers at some point have to make a panic stop. This vehicle's bad brakes means a driver would rear-end someone in a freeway panic situation. Not good. It isn't safe.

  • @charlieboozer82 I don't know man... by the looks of it the owner will have to get new brakes often and that can be very pricey. We used to have a GM SAAB 95 and it was a heavy car but for all the weight GM decided to put small brakes and so we spent soo much money every time to get new pads and often! and we didn't drive like that! Our SAAB was just an A to B car... This video just shows how fast you can lose your pads. So ya I'm trippin!

  • OBESE

  • This Edge is not a new model, it's a half-life refresh of the same exact platform, you can really tell by looking at it from the back which has not changed at all... the "Sport" is way to expensive at ~$40,000.

  • Go Allan Mulally...don't like the 22's on a crossover though that's unnecessary, hurts speed, fuel economy, and ride comfort.

  • I only have two gripes for the Edge. My first and most important problem, are those brakes. Big, honkin trucks have better stopping distance than 140 and 155 feet. My second gripe, is the fact that you cannot get tan or brown colored leather in the Edge! Think how hot a black Edge Sport with brown or tan leather would be. Why do ALL Sport trims either have grey or black leather? It's stupid!

  • demasiado wenou

  • I would never consider an SUV or crossover, but if I did, I would take an Edge Sport.

  • Oh I wish automakers would stop putting such huge wheels on every vehicle they make. 22s? Come on, even 20s are too big. Not everyone is into that urban hip hop scene where they think bigger wheels are better. Believe me nobody is hating or even paying attention and could care less about your shitty oversized rims on your shitty car.

  • @casinotriple the fact is bigger wheels are more safer than smaller ones. it doesn't lose control easily. It's proven fact.

  • Anyone noticed that the "normal" Edge is faster that the "Sport" version? 0-60 in 7.1 s vs. 7.6 ...Since when does sport mean slower? I'm just saying

  • @brownie8519

Because they said the AWD Sport is over 300 lbs heavier. I agree though, if it's slower then there is nothing sporty about it.

  • Ford should update the Ranger with the new 3.7L V-6...

  • @schicktd

    That might be interesting...

  • @schicktd Agreed, along with the Fusion Sport, Taurus, and Flex. I'd love to see the Fusion Sport get that engine.

  • @adulby Don't make it about race, dude. I'm sure it was a white person who chose those wheels for the package and more white people are going to buy it anyway.

  • @DocWolph it was a joke...and in my area of the country most rims are purchased by black people. just a majority stereo-type. no way around it. and race is only a big deal if you make it one.

  • brakes matter only becuase if you have all that power, how can you stop it?

  • why so much horse power on a suv not like your gonna race the thing..

  • No the brakes aren't bad, this isn't a Mustang

  • That braking performance is rediculously BAD!!!! Dear God it would suck to come up on an unexpected traffic jam!

  • @aarikc17

BMW M3 Coupe brakes in 110 feet from 60 mph so 124 feet in a Crossover that nearly weighs a 1000 more pounds isn't that bad.

  • @FordGTGuy Yes but the distance changed significantly after a couple stops, even after they let the brakes cool. It was 150ft +

  • @aarikc17

That is a little fishy, even when a little warm brakes don't make such a sudden difference such as that. Maybe they used different techniques or the equipment glitched but that just doesn't make sense. Either way if you are that let down by brakes it isn't that expensive to upgrade them.

Also it still weighs almost 1000 pounds more than a car easily so even 150 isn't that bad considering.

  • Drop the 5.0 in that bitch!!!!....and some brembos

  • looks good, ecoboost option in the future will kick ass!!!! finally be able to compete with stuff like Infinity FX35-50's and maybe the lower model X5's and stuff :)

  • @supercarsunleashed Anyway not the point.

  • That looks a bit ghetto.

  • @T966ER agree

  • good suv but bad brakes

  • @tinleo333 the brakes are fine its just that motortrend doesn't get that this isn't a 3000lb sports coupe its a 4500lbs suv.

  • video is as pixilated and purple

  • WELL I SEE THAT SPORT NOT SLOW ! BUT THE SEL FAST !!! O_o

  • Put smaller wheels and bigger brakes so it doesn't look so ridiculous.

  • it looks like a big rally car, thats why i love it!

  • talk about a fail BG music. is this really a TEST? WHO GOES TO THE TRACK WITH A FORD EDGE??? this is so irrelevant to the normal ford edge buyer.

  • @mcheddadi Chill out kumquat! The track test is just for fun. Many of us are just curious as to what numbers it does even if the average buyer doesn't give a shit. Also, all the trolls bitching about this car on youtube, can't afford one, or will ever be buying a new car. So, take a chill pill.

  • Fusion is the only good car ford has, well maybe the fiesta, time will tell

  • @aarondavid826 mustang? the 2012 focus? taurus SHO? you should just stop talking now. Do i even need to go into the F150 and explorer?

  • @aarondavid826 Seriously, do you live under a rock? Ford has an insane new lineup of cars which are all way above average in reliability.

  • That actually looks pretty nice. I always thought the Edge looked ugly, but the updated facia and the Sport model makes it look pretty nice. Though the brakes arn't anything to be proud about...there's nothing that a trip to a local dealership for a set of cross drilled rotors can't fix. With the rebates you get back from Ford in cash, it'd be stupid to not buy one of their cars for such a small flaw.

  • POS!

  • those brakes are disgusting

  • Nice background beat lol

  • First of all, way to not mention that the reason the Sport was .5 seconds slower was because the Sport was an AWD model when compared to the FWD SEL, of course it's heavier and slower. Compare two AWD models next time clowns. Also, the 22's are not optional on the sport, they are standard. Sweet journalism…

  • Those are impressive MPG numbers!

  • Edge sport means slower but handles better and better looks but prolly not worth the price difference

  • 4000+ pounds and 22" rims . manufactures are getting really ridiculous with their wheel sizes now days , you can get the same and better over all performance not to mention fuel economy with smaller wheel packages
