  • You have a fractured bearing in your alternator. By removing the air filter cover you over-heated your engine.

  • you'll lose power...because it is now drawing in hot air. You want cold air, which is the way the factory has actually designed it.

  • dude take off the muffler you'll get even more power

  • I did this to mine to. The tubing helps with power by bringing in the cold air but the warmer is much better for gas mileage.

  • That tubing is like a factory cold air intake and i believe it's actually better to leave it on, but i guess it's worth a try.

Belts are very easy to change and adjust on geo's.

I'm in the middle of doing a complet top end rebuild on a 96 1.3 metro rite now, it's like working on a toy. haha

    Peace

  • youve got GREAT belts

if you want extra power you can get a 12 foot spoiler

if may have to go on with buck tape and bumjee cords but it gives that 45hp geo 1200 extra horse

  • should fix ur belt . sucking in hot air well kill you motor thats why theres pipping there to take in cold air

  • Now your engine will be sucking in hot radiator air.... really bad for power

  • well, at least you have a car.

  • yeah extra hp..what a douche. you do know that the pipe is there for a reason right? to get cold air to the engine, what you did was make it so it sucks in all the hot engine air. decreasing hp.

  • LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Any time I want to feel the rush of the mighty 993cc powerhouse I just take a giant dump first and sprinkle my nut sack with baby powder, turn the key and prepare for the jump to light speed! Piloting one of these war machines takes untold skill and concentration especially if you hold it to the floor for any length of time. Be careful out there.

  • The only difference the driver noticed was the *SOUND*, it was louder than before due to the air filter intake pipe being removed. Taking that pipe off DECREASES PERFORMANCE as it sucks in all the hot air from the engine bay. The engine requires COLD air and this is what the pipe is for - to direct cold air in to the engine. It has no more power with the pipe removed, it has LESS. It is an urban myth & I can't believe you know so little about engines that you would even try it - what a fool!

    .

  • @urbex2007

In the winter test results have shown that it can increase mpg.

During the summer however its best just to leave it on.

But your right there is really no noticeable HP difference that can be gained, just more noise.

  • dammit i have the 1998-2000 chevy version and i'm trying to figure out how to get the air filter OUT! lol

  • i did the same to my geo and took the AC off since it dint work, you can just take the belt off during the colder weather when you dont need it, feels a lot stronger

  • @carlosdc88 cool. I wish mine had AC. Mine never had any. hehe

  • this does works. but this could lead u to have less millages or cause a bad air filter by letting the water and dust going in to the filter.. buy a KTM air filter and it will solve those problems..

  • @akilab or u could just put a mesh screen over the opening

  • Is this the same car as a suzuki swift

  • yep same car just has a bit of a different look..

suzuki swift/ geo metro/ pontiac firefly/ chevy metro

  • @jmoyet swift has more horsepower stock.

  • O gawd, good luck freeing up horsepower on a 3 cylinder.

  • iv found a website just for 3cyl engine upgrades. just dont want to mod this metro. except maybe for headers.

  • what is the website called? if you don't mind me asking?

  • can you tell me the name of the web site please!!!

  • suzukird*com

  • Your oly changing the air temp.Get a K&N Air Filter if you want to flow more air.E-9209 $48.99

  • yeah i put it the way it was again about a week after.

i should really put that in the annotations lol

  • Just try a edelbrock filter....it fits on it and it's way nicer. A good exhaust system too can make it sounds incredible. I had one and the sound was so awesome...everybody thought that i had a 6cyl in it!

  • if you tighten that alternator belt it won't squeek anymore

  • fixed already.. it was a bent water pump pulley

  • who's the other person in the video?

  • that was my mother... i had to do the camera work since she was horrible at taking video back then.

  • if anything, it'd take away power. because, now it's pulling in warm air (from under the hood) instead of cold air (which is the point of an air intake)

  • but it's offset by also pulling in more air which is why i removed the flat part of the plastic intake ducting but left the ducting on the side panel pointing towards my intake so it still pulls in cold ir from outside and directs it towards the motor and also pulls in extra air from the engine bay

i haven't dyno tested it but logically it's the best solution and it's free, plus i can put all the stock ducting back on at anytime

  • Im thinking about getting a 96 LSi sedan 4cyl...

  • sa gronde plus je trouve pis le moteur aspire de lair chaud c pas bon

  • man,i know these are gas sippers, but id much rather get 31 mpg in my cavalier and actually have decent performance.hell the 505 hp Corvette Z06s get 26 mpg and the 436hp base models get 27 : D

  • with eco driving it beats any 2009 hybrid.

  • i hated geo, but it saves really money. awesome video man

  • a lot of people seem to hate Geo Metro's until they see how much money they save on gas.

  • hey if you look at the diesel trucks air and intake from banks, they have the air scoop option so fresh air can enter the motor maybe you should make something like that for your metro

  • not really sure since i never been under the hood of a diesel truck.

But I have been looking around I saw that i could just remove the flexible part of the intake and attach a cold air airfilter there and remove the original filter.. might look at a way to extend the intake to the front before buying the cold air filter.

  • look anybody who hates geo metros can go die.

    there the best

  • And the Result? Nothing! The Engine Suck the warm Air! Look my Filter Mod Videos from Suzuki Swift!

  • hmm probably shouldn't do that. The tube is there for a reason. It would be a shame to screw up a gas saver in these times. Those cars barely take any air in anyway.

  • i love small cars. check out my mazda 323 , it surprises alot of people when they ride in it lol !!! all ive done to my car is take the factory air tube and turned it upside down,so it gets cold air from under the car instead of warm air under the hood.

  • i bet if u put on one of those turbo mufflers that little geo will get a boost..hehe

  • my aunt has a geo metro with a hole in her muffler it sounded like a evo lol but no offense the geo metro is slow ass shit the only car i beat was a dodge neon if u want to make it fast engine swap but its point less

  • not trying to make it fast. just messing with it to see what works.

But the Metro has much better mpg than an evo.. hehe

  • No offense to anyone on here but does anyone who has a good variety of knowledge of cars know if a 1974 Chevy Vega with a stock 2.3 Sohc Inline 4 cyl and a 3 speed auto trans with the optional 2 barrel carb could beat a Geo Metro or any Geo Vehicle for that matter my car is a front engine rear wheel drive 2 dr hatch! This may be a dumb question but my car only has 85 hp and 122 ft of Torque!

  • dude change your belts and check your pulleys, before you add all that horsepower by taking the air duct off. your not going to feel any horsepower with taking that off..................idiot............

  • check my recent videos... its all fixed...

  • i did this on my geo its amazing how loud the intake is compared to stock

  • yeah and makes a cool sucking sound when you rev it.

  • I just got a '96, 1.3L, Automatic. I can't get more than 35MPG. I checked the tire pressure, plugs, cap and rotor, but they're all good. Can anyone give me advice on something else to check?

    Thank you

  • check out ecomodder(dot)com.

they have lots of fuel saving tips.

  • Cool

    Thank you

  • the 4Cyl 1.3L metro's were always rated for around 35MPG. the 3Cyl 1.0L Metro's have higher MPG since it has 1 less cylinder to suck fuel.

  • There is an easy way to get rid of that belt squeal in total! Its a famous problem for Geo Metros and its easy(ish) to fix....

  • starhobo14

What's the fix for the belts?

I have the exact same problem.

  • The angle of the alternator and the tension. Make sure the alternator is lined up perfectly and it wont cause it to squeal with first start.

  • I suggest you put it back.. It's there for a reason.

Now it will suck hot air into the engine which is not that good :) The engine produces a lot of heat around itself.

  • The heat coming off the engine is low. Very low. In the case of the 3 cylinder, this is a bit of a good thing since it's less resistance to get air through into the engine. It's tiny and it can't pull in air easily due to the fact that IT'S TINY.

Another thing to do is get Seafoam. First you put 1/3'rd into the crank, then the rest into the gas tank. Then get the seafoam deep creep and take out the cables/plugs and spray the stuff inside. Put the plugs back in with a bit of grease around the...

  • Want a cheap evaporative cold air intake for under $10. I built 2 types for both of my Metro convertibles. The first is a cut away plastic ice tea jug placed in the area where the air inlet pipe thru the fender was removed. I made a sock of burlap and attached it to the remailing inlet. Fill the jug with 2inches of water and it will wick up the sock and cool the inlet charge. It completely eliminated any sign of pinging on hot days. It has more power as well. The engine likes it!

  • The other evap cooler utilizes the air box inside the right front fender. I plugged its drain hole and installed a 20" long

burlap wick thru the inlet right up to the corrugated air cleaner transition pipe. The wick is rolled and tied together with tie wraps every inch so it can't come undone and plug up the inlet pipe. Last week with out 107 degree day I drove 120 miles at 65mph with the a/c on and the engine did not ping or feel weaker than usual on such a hot day. It works!

  • id be more worried about that sqeeky belt.

  • yeah its fixed.... so far...

  • i just just put a Cool Air on my Geo Metro 95 LSI wow it made a good difference on gas milage and just power whise you can hear the sucking power when you drive lol ill post it some day

  • where did you get the Cold Air intake from?

  • i just got a Cone Filter from Canadian Tire for $35 and rigged it up to my intake system

  • Ah lol ok, one of those homemade parts for Metro's.

  • u know such a small engine takes in so little air that any intake mods, even a cold air intake wouldnt make any difference to the performance.

  • yeah i know. i only had it with out the tube for a week just because it sounded cool when i pressed on the gas. kind of like a small turbo charger.

  • work better if you put a true cold air on it, your sucking the air from the engine bay(hot air). What you need to to is suck in colder air. You will gain more over all HP.

  • Yeah I'm planning on doing a lot of changes to the Geo Metro I only had the tube removed only for about a week. I haven't found a cold-air intake that would fit a metro, Iv only found the short-ram intakes on ebay but they suck hot air from the engine when the car is not moving.

If you click on my nick name then click on the link for cardomain you can see some of my future mod plans,

  • Yeah, I just picked up a Metro, a 93' need to switch out the trans. But my plans are for a Honda engine to be put in it. But thats in a while.

For the cold air, im just going to make it, ill show how I made it and everything when its done(and if it works :D)

  • Ok cool.

  • Can you post the link to how you did this? I want to do this too!

  • all you have to do is remove that tube that connects the air filter cover to the fender.

just like in the video. nothing els was done out of the video. everything you saw me do on the video is all that i did to the air filter tube. just removed it.

and it does feel like it added some power. how much? dont know.

  • if water gets in the hole it horrible for the engine...

  • water wont go into the engine unless there are some crazy powerful wind to push rain water all the way up into the intake.

iv ran it in bad rain weather and open up the hood to see if water got to the intake and its dry.

  • nice...looks like im gonna make some cold air intakes then...

  • I have this same car. that exact piece of tubing is not that restrictive... its the airbox (silencer) in the fender that its connected to thats restrictive. take out just the box and leave the tube to the fender so u still get cooler air. thats better IMO. I also have no muffler, but I didnt notice a difference other than noise W/o it. have fun wit ur metro dude ^^

  • i just did some resent changes to the metro but i havent made a video about it yet since im only about 25% done. i painted one of the rims white. go to my main youtube page and click on the cardomain link to see the before and after.

  • You need to realize that your poor little metro's mission in life is to save you money at the pump and it does that very well, hell the price of gas nowdays I wish I had one. So if you insist on having a hotrod take the money your metro saves you and buy a real hotrod, leave the metro alone and be happy with it.

  • Oh man, that car is so bad ass. I want one so I can take the OE cold air intake off and suck in that nice hot engine heated air. You should take out the air filter too, that will free up another 50hp. I bet that thing flys like a rocket, now youll need to install a 5pt racing harness and put on drag slicks.

  • ha.... thats about as much of a laugh your going to get out of that.

i am planning on getting some performance parts for that engine and find a cold air intake that would fit it then replace that exaust system from engine all the way to the back with a performance exhaust.

so make a much fun and laugh as much as you want but once i start getting them parts its going to make a big difference.

  • Or..... you can buy a real car. You'd be suprised how much money you can save once you put down the pipe.

  • im planning on buying a 4cyl car but im going to use the metro just as a project car to keep me busy and learn some mechanic skills.

  • maybe so but this is a metro u have to just come to realize no matter what u do its not gonna go fast lol

  • well there are 3cyl performance parts. iv found 3cyl performance crankshaft, camshaft, and heads.

  • with no muffler on mine it seems as though it has lil more power but very loud

  • i heard if theres no muffler or the exhaust pipe is too big that you will loose back pressure and loose torque.

so you might have gained some hp but lost some torque.

HP= acceleration, torque= forced used to spin the wheels (or push the car)

so if yo have a lot of hp and little torque your car might loose speed going up hills because it doesnt have enough force to push the car.

  • Technically.

    The best explanation is:

    Horsepower dictates maximum speed.

    Torque dictates pulling power.

A car with lots of horse and little torque may be able to hit say... 60mph in 9 seconds, but if you added 150lbs (A person) to that, it might take it longer.

Likewise, if a car has a lot of torque and little horsepower, the 0-60 time won't change due to weight change below a certain amount.

  • Im going to drill holes on the top cover next for more airflow. Ill show you a pic when Im done.

  • ok. i dont think i'll drill holes on the air filter cover. unless i find a spare cover.

  • you should do videos of the mods you do to the metro

  • Im not gonna do much more to it. I found it for $300 and one day when I was changing the filter I saw the tubing was easily removed so I tried it out.

If I get a hold of whelding euipment I might chop the muffler out just for the hell of it. Itll probably sound awful but its all in good fun =P
